I'm going through the same thing right now...I had been so good and followed the SBD religiously, but I broke down and ate rice noodles (which isn't as bad as it could be considering they are okay on Phase II but I couldn't stand to throw away all the treats that I had in my pantry before SBD and now have them in the freezer...tempting me...).

But it seems that eating rice noodles has broken open the flood gates and now all I can think about is stuffing my face right now. I've read all the posts about emotional eating but it's almost like the compulsion to eat is stronger than I am. As this has happened just about on any diet plan I've gone on, I have to ask the inevitable question....is this me...will that overpowering impulse to overeat ever stop cursing me?

Texaslove- do you think the rice noodles were a trigger for your cravings? Were you craving before the noodles?

I haven't had bread yet. I have been using other whole grains since I've started Phase 2. This board has been so informative- especially posts like Cyndi's previous post. I have started reading label and have not been able to find a good whole grain bread at the regular grocery store. Is there a list of SB friendly breads?

Sounds more like a cravings issue and you have stumbled on something that's going to be a trigger for you. What was on the rice noodles? Is it possible the sauce had sugar in it?

Your post really hits home with me. I have such a struggle with food. I swear it talks to me sometimes, especially salty, crunchy and baked things. I think it's obvious you need to do a really clean Phase 1 to help you get control of this. If something is on the Phase II list save it for Phase II. How many days of Phase I did you have completed? I'd almost suggest you restart but don't want to totally discourage you. It will get easier if you can get through the two weeks.

Judith Beck talks about strengthening your resistance muscle. Since I now love muscles I like that analogy. The more you walk away from that urge the more you can. Tell yourself you can do this for 2 weeks. Heck, you can do almost anything for two weeks. If you can get rid of the foods you have trouble with, get rid of them. Donate the unopened containers, share them at work (I've discovered anything I leave in the kitchen with a "help yourself" sign disappears in a few hours), throw it out if you have to but get rid of it. You are not a human garbage disposal. Your body deserves better from you. You can do this but you have to really commit to it.

Thanks for that chance to remind myself. I need it too

and a slightly off post question for the Dr. A experts - what is the thinking behind rice noodles? I would never, ever touch a noodle made from processed white rice and most of them are. I live with a diabetic and I've seen how whole white rice spikes her blood sugar. I can't imagine eating it processed. What am I missing?

ETA - they have a GL of 23, GI of 61. I just don't understand.

I love that analogy! Thanks for sharing it; I had not heard it before.

I always say the same thing... we can do anything for two weeks. But if that sounds too long... just think about it one day at a time and the two weeks will be over before you know it. It really does get easier. Must be that muscle developing

Cyndi - I buy brown rice noodles and the ingredients are only brown rice and water! They sell them in all shapes and sizes -- spaghetti, fettucini, penne -- so I would never buy rice noodles that were't, well, Brown I concur
