I'm not sure who's life your looking at, but I certainly do not have to much time to think. I have hobbies when I can get to them. I have a 12 year son who although is quite self sufficient is still in need of my time. I also have an 82 year old mother with Dementia who demands my time from 6 am to 9 pm every day. I only work once or twice a month due to having to care for my mother. So my days are quite full of things to keep my mind from thinking too much. Depression can't be just forgot about. It's there, I am dealing with my depression the best I can without meds due to being allergic to them. I am using diet and exercise now and it seems to be working for now, but some days nothing works. I don't sit around all day and think about depression.

Hmm, I am not sure where to even begin to respond to this or if it's even worthy of a response.

You do realize in life there are conditions of the mind in which we have little control without intervention? Like all medical ailments, even WITH intervention there are few guarantees. Do you actually believe that depression isn't a legitimate medical concern and a VERY REAL one? What would be your own response for me telling someone with heart disease to "just not think about" having heart disease?

I would love to wake up to a world of dancing little people with the bad witch laying underneath the house. It is not my CHOICE that I don't.

So what is the problem? I think that is important if we are depressed to change something. Because the medication will help to our body but what will help to our mind. So I am sorry that i am thinking that is reasonable to start something that will give you little happiness. Some hobby!
And , don't answer me i understand i am sooo stupid. When i think that the people must be happy!

I think that its just hard for us with depression to hear this.Dont be so offended. Most of us with depression struggle with people in our lives that do not understand that we do no choose to be depressed. And like was mentioned above, its like telling someone with any other medical problem not to think about it.With that being said, I dont think you intended to discount the reality of depression.Maybe you were just speaking from experience and you have found that personally keeping busy has helped you feel less depressed? This is a very hard thing to live with and we have all tried many things to feel better.Emotions run high sometimes.Have a good week all!

Victoria -
Nobody said you were unreasonable.
Nobody said you were stupid either.
I do however think you might be feeling a little defensive because you were offering what you thought was helpful. And I think your intentions were sort of kind-hearted in nature.
Saying that, I'm sure a few million depressed people would take up a hobby if that was all it took to forget about their problems.

I must that every one of us need something positive. I now that is very hard, but i know how magic is that. So i think that the first step is to find something that make us happy. Sometimes this hobby!

I already did find something that made me happy, FOOD! And that's why I came to 3fc, to find the support I needed from people who would understand what it's like to be overweight and suffer from depression.

Victoria, dont take this so personal.Depression is had to understand if you have not personally felt this. Thanks for you idea. But like stated above, most of us here have turned to eating as our "hobby".Depression makes me not want to even get out of bed.A hobby is physically out of the question at times.
