It can get annoying when other people make comments about what you are eating or not eating. Before I started this weight loss journey, co-workers who were on a diet (when I wasn't) used to make comments like "there's a lot of sugar in that cake/donut/pie, you know"...I guess they thought they were being helpful. Fast forward a few years later (those co-workers have not lost any weight) and now that I've lost weight, it seems like everyone notices what I eat, and if I treat myself to a piece of cake, for example, people look at me as if I'm "cheating" - a word I've banned from my vocabulary - and am one step away from gaining back all the weight I've lost! Feels like a no-win situation sometimes. Some of my co-workers who are still trying to lose weight get all huffy if I make suggestions about things they can try to lose some weight (I only make them if they bring up weight loss first and make comments about why they can't seem to lose weight) even though they used to make those comments to me when I was bigger! Definitely annoying.

Sorry for the rambling, I hope I'm making sense!

I agree that maybe your boss only had good intentions. According to your OP it sounds as if she has no idea you have been reducing your weight. If she doesn't know you have lost weight, then I think it's a totally innocent question. My son can't eat pizza because of the gluten in the crust and the casein in the cheese. He has a severe allergy to these. If I see someone avoiding things like pizza, I often wonder if they are struggling with the same issues he is. I would probably ask you the same question, just because I would be curious if you have the same stomach/intolleracence problems as my son...which is very difficult to handle at times. Ya how? She is your boss, and not like a total stranger on the street.

Now if your boss had known you lost weight and continually offered it to you anyway, I could see being put out. I have a few sabotager people in my life and it gets annoying. Sometimes I see it as a test to see if I'm "still" losing. LOL

I like the "it doesn't agree with me". Personally I am not shy and I would just say I was on a diet. Like JayEll said, maybe it was an opening for the boss to ask what he/she could offer as an alternative for those that don't eat pizza.

This is the problem I face at times. I try not to talk about my weight loss or what I am or am not eating/doing for it because I don't want to come across as preachy. If people ask, I'll indulge them to a point, but I basically keep things to myself.

Luckily most people around here bring their lunches and we eat at our desks so it's no big deal, but people have noticed that I'm losing weight.

My officemate loves to get a donut, piece of cake, candy, whatever and eat it in front of me making all these noises like it's the best food ever. I just laugh at him. When he does that it actually makes me want that food less!! He's actually very supportive, though, which is nice and just likes to tease me sometimes.

Back to the OT, though - If someone asks I just say I'm trying to watch my calories. That's usually the end of the conversation.

I think it is possible that your bosses question was of concern. He/she might be wondering if you have allergies or maybe you are vegetarian.

Tell your boss you are lactose intolerant and get the sh#ts if you eat pizza. Problem solved. Voila! You will never get asked about your food choices, ever, for as long as you work there.

Just kidding! If only it were that easy. I know how you feel--food is much a personal thing for me I feel like people are asking me what color underwear I am wearing. I wish I could push an easy button for you!

I'd probably either be up front about it and say, "I lost a lot of weight and I want to keep it off so I try to avoid stuff like pizza, except on weekends." or I'd do as Cakses said and tell him it just doesn't agree with me.

But I dunno if I would have taken this question very personally -- it seems more conversational to me, unless he asked it in a rude way or singled you out in front of everyone else or something.

Yeah, I HATE being asked "why don't you eat ________ ?" It isn't people's business! I'm just not eating it, okay? I have my reasons; leave me alone!

I like the "it doesn't agree with me" line, though. I work for a construction company and the guys who work here do not care AT ALL what they do to their bodies. Most of them are twentysomethings and thin to medium build because they are working hard labor all day. They have all asked me from time to time "But why don't you eat ____________ ?" - at first, I was honest and said, "Because in order for me to look like this, I can't be shoveling that down my throat." I got made fun of and then proceeded with, "Do you want to know the intestinal details? " THAT shut them right up!

People also ask me why I don't drink and no matter WHAT I say, there is apparently NO good reason for me not to drink, even IF it adversely affects my health!

I had this very thing happen to me last Thursday at a after work party for a co-worker who was leaving. I live in the New Orleans area, so everyone drinks at almost every social function. Since I'm trying to lose weight and I'm in the first stages I have decided to cut out alcohol for a while. So, at the party everyone was drinking except for little old me and everyone kept asking why I wasn't. (I'm not really a big drinker anyway, but I do at least have one glass of whine at social situations). I told one girl who asked me that I was dieting and she said...."So, you aren't going to drink again EVER!?"...like it was the most horrible thing in the world. I just kinda laughed.

Anyway, those kind of questions make me uncomfortable as well. Mostly because I'm a very private person by nature and only tell people I'm close too personal things about myself. So, I know how you feel. But to answer your question....I would just say that you don't eat unhealthy foods like Pizza anymore because you are trying to be more healthy. That should shut them up...haha!
