I am back from the coast. We had a great trip! We got to the Monterey Aquarium for a day and got in a lot of beach time. The weather was surprisingly warm and sunny until Friday. We weren't surprised to come back
to traces of snow on the mountains and a hard freeze forecast for yesterday night. Fortunately, we got home early enough so DH could winterize the trailer. Looks like Fall has finally arrived.

We spent quite a bit of time strolling around, but that didn't translate into a lot of steps. I "banked" some extra before I left, so am only down about 6,000 steps at this point.

Hattie: The daily step total is all the steps that you accumulate during the course of the day. Your step goal is reasonable if you are accustomed to, say, 45 minutes of walking or other exercise a day. It also depends on how many steps you take in the course of your daily life. If you have a sedentary job and aren't used to daily exercise, it might be better to track your daily steps for a week to get a baseline and then start by adding 2,000 steps a day to your baseline for your goals for weeks 2 and 3.

Your October goal of 10,000 steps per day would be 310,000 for 31 days.

Sassy: I did pretty well with my eating on our trip. We only ate out twice, so that helped. I have been working through my music DVD's while I do time on the treadmill.

I put in some extra treadmill time today to start chipping away at my step deficit. My eating has been on plan for yesterday and today, so I seem to be back on track.

Hi everyone

Where is everyone? Stepping?

Just wanted to post my progress.

10/10: 12,400 10/11: 7,854 10/12: 10,115 10/13: 10,332 10/14: 10,275

With a goal of 10,000 a day...I think I am doing pretty good. I am so proud of myself. Some days I had to walk in place just to get to 10,000 before bed.

I find myself walking more just to put more steps on my pedometer. Which I guess is the point of having a pedometer.

Check in a little...it helps me keep going

Hi Hattie. Good going on your step totals.

A pedometer is great for keeping on track. If have had a "lazy" day my step total can be below 5,000 steps. A reality check for how sedentary my life can be without some effort to get activity into my day.

I didn't quite make 12,000 steps yesterday because it was one of "those kind of days", but I still have time this month to slowly make up my total step deficit from my trip to the coast.

Happy stepping!

It is time for me to take a new exercise direction. I have been increasing the intensity of my treadmill workouts and am starting to push the weight training as well. This isn't always compatible with "making steps" and I am getting worn out trying to keep up. I think I am dealing with the reality of my age (63).

It has been a fun thread, but it is time for me to say "good-bye". Best of luck to everyone.
