Woo-hoo! 1.6 lbs at our WI today! In my mind I know that's good, but when my friend who had a burrito and chips yesterday lost 1 lb it's kind of hard. I've actually exercised at least 45 minutes 6 of the last 7 days and watched what I ate. It's sort of disheartening! In my mind I know that someone weighing 200 lbs is going to lose more easily that someone weighing 150, but it still hurts. I want ice cream and chocolate and fritoes! Watching your weight really sucks sometimes! I guess I'm just tired this week, and that feeling of superiority for actually eating healthy just isn't cutting it. But I'm not going to cave! We're going to Las Vegas for my sister's wedding on Valentine's Day and I'm going to look good and be comfortable in my clothes!

I was always on the extremely thin side growing up and it sure is hard to have to watch my weight now! Life is not fair! - T

Melissa, Thanks for the encouragement. Why do I allow myself to gain as I have? It makes no sense. I will get it off; it's just seems to be difficult right now. I'm so glad that you believe that you made the right decision about the surgery. Hurray! It's great that you have your energy back.

Again, lots of snow for you. It's chilly here today--40's (morning).

Plans for the weekend include working at our annual church rummage sale. It's a big deal. Last year we made $7,000. DH also helps out moving things around and delivering furniture that people buy. On Sunday, I'm going shopping with a GF. We're working on a bridal shower, so putting together favors and things like that.

Pam,I hope all went well with your surgery.

Hello to everyone else. Have a good OP day!

Morning ladies! I think I'd be happy its Friday if I didn't have to come into work tomorrow. I'm going to be working ~48 hours a week until the end of February. I don't mind as much since I get paid for my extra time. But seriously, sometimes I just get sick and tired of it and want a day off!

Well I didn't make it to the gym, as expected. The chicken, which I transferred from the freezer to the fridge over 2 days ago, was still frozen in the middle and so took longer to cook. Even when it was done, some of it was still a little pink. We ended up having to throw the rest of it out that we didn't eat. But I ate almost 1/2 breast and so did hubby. Normally if we keep the wings and drumsticks they never get eaten I'll have to buy another in a couple of weeks and not put it in the freezer but make it soon after I buy it and keep it in the fridge so it just won't freeze at all.

Gym tonight. Planning 35 minutes of cardio and 1 round of weights. Tomorrow, no gym. Sunday is WW and gym (both cardio and weights again) and lots of chores around the house (like cleaning - haven't done that in a while with all this extra working I've been doing).

Melissa - Glad to hear that you are feeling good about your decision and that you are feeling better! Before I was diagnosed (and for at least a few months after because of my medication) I was exhausted all the time. I know how precious that feeling of energy can be! Working out really helps me keep my energy level up.

Theresa - 1.6 is a great loss! I was stalled at 160-162 from September until just a week or so ago. I would have gladly taken that 1.6 loss! It does get harder as you get closer to your goal, but it makes it all that much more worth it in the end!

Lisa - Sounds like you will be busy this weekend! I have a TON of bigger clothes in my basement that I want to donate to Salvation Army. I just haven't gone down there and sorted through things yet. I actually wanted to do it by the end of December, but then I got sick and didn't have the energy. Maybe that is something I can put on the list for this Sunday

Hi Tanya, Susan, and Pam!

Theresa: 1.6 is a great weight loss! I do understand the frustration with hearing about someone who has eaten whatever and loses weight. Eating healthy is work and you have to feel good about what you did this past week--keep it up and you'll see more success! I, like you, want to feel more comfortable in my clothes and am working towards that. I was always thin/underweight growing up too so having to watch what I eat now is really hard. If you really want some Fritos buy one of those small bags that you can get for lunch and get it out of your system. Since I've been eating better I'm feeling more in control and haven't been craving some of the comfort foods I turn to when I'm bored.

Lisa: I think sometimes we like to "test" to see how far we can go before we have to pull in the reigns--that's my thought. I like to have a challenge and sometimes with maintenance staying around the same weight just isn't challenging or feel like I'm accomplishing anything so I think what happens we start to loosen up and have some of this, some of that, and then we're faced with having to focus on getting back to healthy eating and losing a few pounds. Your temps are pretty cold! It's only 15 here this morning and the feel like temp is 0!

Lori: A quick way to finish thawing chicken is to put it in some cold water with salt--my DH works in a food service and it's safe to finish getting poultry thawed down. I feel really good today and not tired so that's a really good sign--I'm going to the doctor in February for my thyroid and bp check and I think we're finally at the right dosage for my thyroid meds because I'm not tired all the time.

I'm so glad it's Friday! Even though it was a short week it felt long! I'm off on Monday so another short week next week for me. DH and I might go to the Souper Bowl (fundraiser) on Sunday--they have a bunch of different restaurants that make soup and you get to sample them (2 oz) and vote for your favorite. It's a lot of fun and the soups are always good.

Hi Ladies,

Brrrr it's cold today, I don't think the temp is going to reach 20. I'm home from work, it's DH's birthday so we're going to go out to lunch and later to dinner with some friends. The procedure yesterday went OK. Apparently fibroids and a polyp are causing my problems so the next step is a biopsy scheduled for next month. On a positive note I did have a mammo today and all looked good .

Lauren is very excited because for her graduation gift she's going with some friends (and adult chaperones) on a trip to the Dominican Republic. She's bringing her passport application to the post office today so hopefully that won't take too long to receive.

Theresa congrats on the 1.6 loss, that's great! I agree with Melissa if you are craving fritos just by a small bag and when there gone there gone. I also was on the thin side when I was younger and started gaining weight in my mid 30's. It's been a bit of a struggle ever since.

Lori That's a lot of hours every week. Are you planning on taking some time off in March to just relax? Enjoy the gym tonight!

Lisa have fun at the rummage sale, hope your church does as well as it did last year. Thanks for the well wishes

Melissa I'm glad you are happy with your decision. I'm pretty sure I'll have to make that same decision too. Sorry you got all that snow. Nothing in the forecast for us but I wish this cold snap would break.

Hi to everyone else, hope you all have a great weekend. Talk to you later.

Isn't it funny that several of us were always thin when we were younger and now have had to struggle? I was called "String Bean" when I was younger.

Theresa, yes congrats!! I didn't see your post for some reason, but that is really great. It is very difficult to be with someone who loses while eating anything they want. I have friends though who I go to lunch with that eat anything and are heavy. I don't want to be there.

Melissa, I hope you get some warm temps soon. It sounds like your thyroid issues have finally settled down. The Souper Bowl sounds so neat--what charity is it for?

Pam, Yes, it sounds like you will need to make the same decision as Melissa. My mother had fibroids and she said they hurt really bad; she put off a hysterectomy and then when she had it, she was kicking herself for not doing it sooner. I'm glad your mammo was good. It was interesting that you mentioned the Dominican Republic. DH recently told me he wants to go there for a mission trip, one where they help the people build houses and help with medical stuff. I was a little surprised. I'm afraid he'll be going alone as that is not my cup of tea.

Lori, Hey, don't work too much. I do hope you will be able to stop that long work week. That gets old really fast. You need to take care of you. I'll be working on 2 proposals during the next month and I know that I'll be putting in extra hours.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement! I went to my WW meeting this morning, so I'm feeling better about it today. When you're working that hard you really want to see some tangible results now! Can you tell I'm impatient?

It is interesting that we have quite a few of us who were thin growing up. In high school, I was 5'7" and 108#. Looking back, I'd say I probably had an eating disorder but back then you never heard about such things. Once I hit 40, I started gradually gaining a few pounds per year. No exercise and eating out with co-workers every day is not good for maintaining your weight. It was really hard when I had to start watching what I ate because I had never done it before. I am ashamed to admit now that I wasn't very tolerant of overweight people in my younger years. I was just like "hey, quit eating so much and get off your lazy behind". Well, what goes around, comes around. I am now MUCH more sympathetic to what a battle it is to be a healthy weight. I feel like I should apologize to overweight people everywhere for all the bad things I thought.

Gotta run and get this messy house cleaned up so I can play tomorrow. Stay warm everyone! It's supposed to be in the 70's here tomorrow and has finally quit raining, so I want to get outside in the sun. - Theresa

Hi Ladies,

I haven't been posting the past few days, but I have been reading all of yours and I am glad everyone seems to be doing well.

DH is home for the weekend and leaves again tomorrow night for NC. This past week was the first of 4 weeks he will be gone, and it was easier than I had expected. I am so attached to DS that it's hard to let them have qt while DH is home, because I am used to having him w. me at all times except for m-w-f when he is at pre-school from 9-3. He is clingy to me also, but LOVES to play w. dad as well. He wants me when he is sick or sleepy, hungry or hurts himself. He wants DH when he wants to play. He is playful w. me too, but more affectionate and cuddly.

I went to my weekly meeting yesterday and I am down 2#!! I am thrilled I met my mini-goal for the month of losing 10# in Jan. My mom has lost 6#, and is doing well. She can't be as active because she has joint issues and Graves, but is doing great! I have been to the gym 5-6 days a week since starting but I will slow down some when I am further towards my goal.

I am not feeling overworked at all, especially since I am barely working at the office lately. I am looking for a new job. I hope to find something as soon DH gets finishes this training session so I have been applying to a lot of positions. I want to find something at a Hospital. The Boston and surrounding hospitals have excellent nursing programs and will pay for me to go to school.

Theresa, Congrats on the loss. It is frustrating when we put in more effort than others and they get a bigger pay off, but you should feel better knowing that you are making healthier choices than your friend.

Melissa, I am so jealous. That souper bowl sounds fantastic. You are gonna have a blast. Soups are my fav lately, especially this weather and w. the low sodium varieties that are available. My mom makes the best homemade soups and she always makes tons of extras for us and for my older DS and her family. They live right next door also, so we are all close. Actually our whole family lives clustered on 3 big plots of land. We are like the Kennedy's, lol. It's like a compound. My dad is a contractor so we have a big in-law apt, and my families house is enormous. My cousins all live in in-laws or homes built by our dad's. We are building starting this spring, but it will be up to 2 yrs since my dad's co. is building 8 homes on the road next to our home. My mom and I help run the business.

Pam, Good luck, you have a tough decision ahead of you. I work w. a lot patients w. uterine fibroids and they can be quite painful. I know that you will make the right decision for you, just take your time and learn about all your options and what the process will entail. Are you in a lot of pain on a regular basis? I hope not.

Lori, That is a lot of work and w. all the working out you are doing I am just tired reading about it! I hope you take some time for yourself to relax. Although I know that for me gym time is me time and helps me to feel better, more energized etc.

Lisa, I am sorry that you had a tough time w. a small gain and not getting that roll in Pirate's. You did get another great roll in a movie and you have been so active lately, you should be proud of yourself. I also wonder if maybe you've gained some muscle mass w. all the walk/running and golfing you have been doing. My sister does bikram's (sorry about the spelling) yoga and just gained a pound, which is huge for her since she is thin and is a recovering bulimic. Her muscles are lengthening and she is looking more long and lean and toned, but gaining muscle mass. It's tough when we have a gain, but at least you know what you are doing well, and what you need to work on and you are determined to do it. You have helped me so much in that past few weeks and I know that your a pro at this. I hope you have a big pay off at next weigh in
