Hello everyone--- I'm back, got the Wii done and feeling good right now.
Zoe, You be careful driving on those bad roads. Sometimes the risk just isn't worth it. I did the hoola hoops, (still not very good with this) and the basic steps, my highest score there so far is 306, not sure what a perfect score is but I would sure like to hit it at least once before adding something more. I also did the Free Run (the 10 minute one) twice, first time I did 1.899 miles in 10 minutes the second time was 1.635 for the 10 minutes. I kind of rotate doing things and get an hour in everyday.
Welcome Laffalot!! Just jump in. We always make room for more. Let us know about yourself and we look forward to getting to know you.
Lynn, I didn't sign up for the Presidential challenge-- I thought about it but then decided not to. Just wanting to keep track here, on fitday and the Wii. That seems to be about enough for right now. I have been thinking about maybe getting a dance video to go with the Wii but will wait and make it a reward at some point. I don't want to give up on the wii fitness program right now..And I'm hoping to keep it up and then once I get a dance video use it ONLY after I have put my hour in with the WiiFitPlus. That way I can count it as my FUN! Were you able to open the video link for Carthage that I posted? Great Pictures of your DD--I dont' know if I would ever be able to do a marathon! Congratulate her for me.
Tea, I don't know if I said so before but Congrats on the 3 pounds!! YAY!! I love seeing my ticker move downwards a little at a time.
Donna, I have to post this picture-- just shows you that Ginger and Sissy have no toys at all! Sissy crawls in this tent of toys and just loves to curl up with her toys and sleep! But at night she has to bring at least 2 to bed with her! Ginger loves playing too but like the older sister it is more fun to take something away from Sissy that she is playing with!! KIDS!!
Well, need to get going. everyone have a great day.

Bunti-- we must have been posting at the same time. Thanks for the compliments on my little town. I really like living here and haven't begun to see everything yet. I've never been to Alaska. I have cousins in the military that live in Eagle River right now-- they will be leaving there and going to Hawaii in June-- That should be a big difference huh!! My brother and his family lived in Alaska on Kodiak Island several years ago. My parents went to visit him but I was married and had my own family then so wasn't able to go. But he sure has some stories that he tells from being over there. Sounds like it could be interesting to live there.
If you get a chance to click on this link it is really pretty neat. At Christmas time the campus of the Mother Of Coredemptrix puts on this light display every year. I didn't record this video but found it on Youtube and the music was their choice. But you can hear on the radio the story as you drive through this display.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0T-quD_-jI I go every year to see it--- it is just gorgeous
OK-- got to get going. Just wanted to pop in for another second.

Another nice day...so far in high 60s but supposed to get into the 80s. My dh and I went for our walk...walked a little further...about 40 min. and tiny bit faster this time. My dh is doing so well...you'd never know he had a fx femur. His knee still gives him a little mild pain now and then but hopefully that will go away soon. It is mostly when he's been walking or on his feet a lot I think. Or sometimes when he steps down from a curb or something. By the time we get home though I think he will be ready to get back to his usual activiites.
My back is still bothering me but hopefully it will be better soon too. The muscle relaxant makes my mouth so dry so I hate taking them but still feel I need it. I just make sure I always have water with me.
We ran into a couple from our home area yesterday so this morning we stopped at their RV and talked a bit with them. It is rare that we run into anyone we know from the NW and they are a very nice couple so it was fun to see them down here.
I watched my eating better yesterday...not really counting calories but mentally tracking my carbs and my weight dropped back down to where I was at the beginning of this trip at least.
Well, I need to eat lunch and then go to the on-site laundromat. Take care everyone!

Evening...I'm bacccck. About 15 minutes from one of those OMG sunsets. The sun is blasting in right on my screen. Below the sun the sky is ribbons of pink with ocean gray edges.
I grew up not far from Lynn's home, but we moved here from Maryland's Eastern Shore. That's where Captian John Smith went first before he met ole Pricess Pokie.....So being down here is so different. This area had cedar trees and they literally cut them all down for pencils around 1900. Had another industry for hearts of palm, needless to say after you remove the heart the palm dies. Which now leaves only have some shrimpers, bay scallopers, crabbers. There are really no jobs except service industry for senior citizens....that runs from waiters, shops and health care. Our last industrial type work left for NC....Proline Boats. The town is about 2 blocks wide on either side of RT19. The streets are lined with Live Oaks that have moss hanging. Everybody says howdy to everybody and nobody's a stranger. Unlike further South we actaully have 3 seasons. Maybe a month of Winter, then Summer and 6 weeks of Fall......sometimes. Ponce De Leon was around here looking for that well and we had a few Civil War bashing. Mainly because they never figured out which side they were on. A sugar cane plantation that still had the mill stone etc. But we are mainly know for our mermaids better known as Manatees. Yes, they are still 1000lb poop machines! Any sailor who swam off to hear one of them sing was high on rum.
Laffalot...welcome
NancyNC....I love cozy mysteries. I go on ebay and buy lots of 10+. Find an author I haven't read and buy all of their series. Like having a 2000 page book. I read All of Donna Swanson, Sarah Graves, Laura Childs(teashop),Donna Andrews, Katherine Hall Page this past year. Good thing they are cheap on ebay. Oh and Sarah Donati and Valerie Wolzein. One a day makes me happy.
Karen...Sissy in the box is perfect. Boy is she giving you a stinky eye!
Zoe...That was beyond crazy driving into work. Do we have to worry with every storm that you are out there!!!!!!!
Mary...Glad Dh is getting stronger. That alone is worth the trip.
Time to put me feet up and watch tv/read.....hugs, karen3

Good Evening Golden Girls,
I am actually feeling so much better today (i'm whispering as I say this, in case the flu Gods are listening). Went shopping this afternoon and even walked around the mall. Had some bills to pay and some things to take back. It felt so good to get out again, since I spent most of Monday and Tuesday in bed. Diet wise, how much can you eat when you're sick as a dog? But I did drink a ton of OJ and that isn't low cal. No exercise for days either. Ya do what ya can do, when ya can do it!
Rosey, stay warm. when do you weigh in again? I know you're going to see another big loss!
Z, WHAT were you thinking chickey? Did you have to go in? Know how that is, but please be careful. Driving in that kind of weather is so horrible. Ha! I'm telling you, like you don't know!
Lyn, Sounds like an interesting job and much needed.
Donna, My friend put up a sign at the senior home and got several jobs. Dog walking, light cleaning, grocery shopping. Worth a try.
Bunti, Glad you're over the Flu. I sure know how horrible that is! Stay well.
NCNancy, Glad kitty is feeling better. I have a little dog now, but we've had kitty's in the past. Love um all. And thanks for the new author. I'm always looking for something new to read.
Laughalot, HI, Good to meet you! One day at a time is the only way to take it. But I do play ahead. Menus and groceries, things like that. But each day is a new chance to start over and get it right. Don't kick yourself (that's our job-kidding) if you mess up one day. We all do.
Lynn, Your daughter looks so (rightfully) proud after finishing the marathon!
Tea, Welcome! and congratulations!! You are off to one great start!
Karen, You are making me feel bad about exercising now!! ha! When you start you really start!
Mary, when will you be heading back home?
Freda

Hello GG's,
It has been a busy couple days. I haven't had a chance to be on here much or catch up on the posts.
I had a real stroke of luck this week, and now have one of those Granny cycles (three wheeled adult tricycle) with a comfortable seat. My DH helped me make some adujstments to it and I took it out for a spin today. I really enjoyed it.
Hopefully tomorrow, maybe I can stay put and catch up on the posts.
Finally the sun was out today. We had had days and days of dreary cloudy weather. I feel so much better when the sun shines.
Hope you all are having a nice evening.
Take care

Hi Everyone

Today was such a horrid day at work - the kind that usually sends me into the kitchen to eat myself into a coma. So instead of going home right away I went and got my passport picture - which was an enraging hassle - and the picture is the usual - the only thing missing on it is a heading warning about a serial killer on the loose! While I was at the portrait studio there was a miniscule sign that said "ask about our free gift" so I did and it is for a free 8x10 portrait! I booked our wedding anniversary in June - we were so broke when we got married that there was no money for portraits, and then with kids and school and work we've NEVER had one done. I sure hope that this 6 month mini-goal works out!

Should help keep me on track anyway.

Oh My Goodness Gayle!! I've looked at those trikes too. I think it would be so much fun once the weather turns nice to be able to ride one of those around. Of course, I would have to be able to put a basket on the back for two spoiled pomeranians!! Where did you find one with such a nice seat?? I'm going to have to be on the lookout now for one.
Karen, Ginger an Sissy each have their own "tent" and love to crawl in them. Sissy seems to like hers more and always keep check on how many of her toys are in there and where the rest of them are.
Freda, I'm just glad that I have found the Wii. I really like it and I think as long as I can see some changes being made it will continue to be my main source of exercise. I would love to see another 5 pounds gone on Friday but will be happy with 2 or 3. Just want it to keep moving down!!
Mary, I think you are doing great while on vacation. I find it so hard to try to stay focused when I'm away from home. Good Job!
Well, tonight American Idol starts again. Does anyone watch it? I'm kind of curious as to what it is going to be like with out Simon or Paula!! I've been watching Paula's new show too, Live to Dance and it has been pretty good. Well, I think I'm going to get a cup of hot tea and relax and watch some TV for a bit.

Okay, so THIS is what I think it was - my driving to work in that bad storm yesterday, I mean - I really think it had something to do with demonstrating to myself that I could still drive under adverse conditions - that I'm not too old, I mean. It really was a ridiculous thing to do, because I actually can work from home whenever I choose to, and I had no meetings scheduled, so there was no reason for me to spend six hours + on the road like that, other than to satisfy my own ego.
I've already told them that if it snows again on Friday (6-12 inches predicted) I'll be working from home. I'm just lucky I didn't end up in a snow bank somewhere - there were a load of cars off the road.
Glad you're feeling better, Freda. That virus - or those viruses (I'm pretty sure there's more than one out there being passed around) - are really miserable, and once they get ahold of you, they just plain don't want to let go!
Karen3 (and Karen31, and Lyn and Lynn...) well, everybody's town seems a lot nicer than Worcester! Oh, we do have some very definite assets, I suppose...Elm Park, the oldest public park in the United States, and it really is a great place to spend a spring-summer-fall afternoon; not winter, though, but I don't want to be outside anywhere in the winter. My skiing, sledding & ice skating days are behind me, I'm afraid. And we do have a world class art museum, which is where I met my current dh...and some nice lakes and a bicycle & rail trail; lots of pretty hiking paths, actually, including some really neat ones owned by the Audubon Society. A great First Night celebration, Arts Worcester, which both DH & I belong to, the Hanover Theater that brings some amazing live performances to the city, Mechanics Hall, which is a beautifully restored historical venue for all kinds of events, Regatta Park with rowing teams competing all summer long.....oh, Jeeze...a LOT of pretty nice stuff, come to think of it. I suppose there are worse places to live...but not necessarily in winter when the seven hills of Worcester (Worcester is actually known as the City of Seven Hills) become slippery roller-coasters, and you take your life in your hands trying to run out for a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk.
Sounds like you're very content, Mary - I'm glad you're enjoying yourself and that your dh is doing so much better!
NCNancy, I'm currently reading Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger. She wrote The Time Travelers Wife, which was also made into a movie - did anybody read/see it? I LOVED it, and I'm liking this one as well. She's a really good writer.
Nice pictures of your daughter, Lynn! What a trouper! Such a pretty girl, too...I'm betting she looks a lot like you did at her age?
Ohhhhhh, Rosey....I shiver just thinking about the temperatures where you are! DO keep warm!
Skittles, huh, PT? Now, see...if they were chocolate, I'd wolf the darn things down, but I've never been too crazy about fruity candy...except maybe tootsie pops, because at least there's some chocolate in the middle.
Hi Gayle...so glad to see you posting regularly! I was hoping you would...LOVE the bike!
Welcome, Laff, and hiya Bunti and teagranny...
Gotta run...much to do before I sleep, to paraphrase the poem...
G'nite my lovely GG's!!!!

We usually get home toward the end of March, however we may go home earlier this year...when things were going so badly we said we'd go home as soon as the mountain road was safe, but now things are going better so I'm not sure. I am just leaving it up to dh as this maybe his last year to do this.

Hello again,
About my tricycle ~ actually it is (hopefully) the final in a long saga of trying to find something that would work for me. We have these lovely bike and hike paths where I live, and I wanted so badly to be able to ride a bicycle on them. My son had a girl’s bicycle in the garage that he had bought so he and his girlfriend could go on bike rides together. I asked if I could use it and he said yes. I tried, but the seat was too high and I promptly fell off of it (in my driveway thankfully instead of out on the street somewhere). So, I thought if I bought a bike that my feet could reach the ground while my rear was on the seat, that I would be ok. I bought one at Walmart ~ brought it home and still didn’t feel safe ~ scared I’d fall again. So back it went. I saw a three wheeler at a second hand store on my way to work and stopped one morning on the way home to inquire as to the price. The guy (one of those big bag of wind types) assured me that I would not be able to find one for less than he was selling it. Well, he was wrong ~ I found one on the Walmart website (for brand new) that was less than that guy’s. Bought that and enjoyed it for a couple years, but the seat (a regular type bicycle seat) was never too comfortable. (You never know until you start using them.) So, I kept looking on line and drooling and dreaming of one of those recumbent kind. I found one of those on Craig’s List and convinced my husband that this one would be more comfortable for me. Got that one and sold the other one. The seat (kind of like sitting in a chair) was way more comfortable, but because it had gears and small wheels ~ if you were going up a hill ~ even a little one ~ you had to put it in a low gear, so you were peadling really fast, but not getting anywhere very fast, plus it made pain in the soles of my feet. I had sadly traded pain in one part of me for pain somewhere else. But I didn’t want to tell my husband that I felt I had made a mistake. So, I kept using it ~ but not enjoying it as much as I had thought I would. Then a couple weeks ago when I had to go quickly to my daughter when she needed help because of her doggy ~ I was frustrated because I needed to hurry to her and that trike would not do it. That episode made me desperately want to be able to ride a regular bicycle again and so I began looking again at the one my son had stored here. I lowered the seat (duh ~ why didn’t I think of that the first time?) and I could reach the ground with my feet, and tried it out, but still felt shaky and scared of falling. So, I looked on line at the local classifieds and that very day, there just happened to be one (the one you saw the picture of). I felt it was just meant to be ~ for there to be one ~ out of the blue ~ the very day I looked for one. I e-mailed the man and made an appointment to go give it a test drive. Loved it ~ the price was awesome. It needs a little tweeking (the seat while more comfortable than the one on the first three wheeler) needs a bit more padding as there is a bar under the front of it that cuts into the back of my legs. But I think I can figure something out.
My husband (though he irritates me sometimes) has been a good sport about my quest for a cycle for me.
Karen ~ it does have a basket on the back. The first one I had did too and one day we put a cushion in there and put Maddie in ~ Steve walked along behind and we went to the park.
I'm sorry that this ended up being so long ~ I thought some of it was amusing. Also, if anyone else would ever be looking for that kind of tricycle ~ maybe you could benefit from what I learned as I tried out different kinds.

WOW! Gayle that was really great that you just happened to be at the right place at the right time! I've also checked out the ones at Walmart but haven't done anything about them yet. We have so many neat places that I could ride. Think I may get a little more serious about looking. I'll keep my eyes open on craigslist and maybe some of your luck will rub off on me too!! Thanks for telling us about the things that you have found out-- I'll watch for those things when I am trying them out.

Hi G.G.s,
Looks like most everyone was stopping by today! I noticed Bobbi’s missing. Where are you Bobbi? Hope you’re not having one of those awful headaches!
My Milky cat still seems to be improving. Yay! He’s still not quite playing, but he watches the other cats, & acts like he’s thinking about joining in.
Bunti, I’ve been thinking about reading the Aunt Dimity books. I’ll have to check & see if the local library has any. Sounds like you like Snickers bars, me too. They’re my favorite candy bar, but so many calories! I still HAVE to have one every now & then.
Hi Laffalot. Nice to meet you. I’m sure you’ll like it here.
Lynn, great pics of your DD. She’s so pretty. Don’t think I’ve read any books by Kate Ellis. Maybe I’ll run across some in one of the thrift stores, if the library doesn’t have them. I only buy used books since new ones are so expensive.
KarenFL, I’m really jealous of your weather. And I miss my moss! We loved playing with it when we were kids. I brought some back from a trip to FL a few years ago, & hung it in some trees in my front yard. It hung there a few months, then blew away. Sigh! Now I’ve just got a small baggie of some I picked up on my last trip down there. Some of the authors you mentioned are my favorites - Sarah Graves, Laura Childs, Donna Andrews, Katherine Hall Page, and I’ve read most of their books. I’ll have to check out the others.
Donna, I had to laugh when I read your comment about Lynn’s DD’s marathon pics. “She looks so happy and so proud!” I’d been making notes about what I wanted to say, & I’d written “she looks so proud & happy”.
KarenMO, such a cute pic. Your dogs are both adorable! It’s wonderful you really enjoy exercising on your Wii! I still haven’t found any exercise I like, so I have to stick to restricting my calories to lose any weight.
Mary, your weather sounds so nice & warm! I hope your back stops hurting so you can really enjoy it, & the walks with your DH. It’s great that he’s doing so good. And, great that your weight’s back down! I always seem to think it’s ok to eat whatever I want on trips, & that’s usually what I do. Good thing I don't go on many trips.
Freda, glad to hear you’re feeling so much better! Seems like most of the sick ones around here are getting well. Yay!
Gayle, I like your “Granny Cycle” (I love that term). I haven’t seen any in awhile, & wondered if they were still around. I think I might like riding one! Hope this turns out to be the right cycle for you, finally! What a quest!
Tea Granny, sorry you had such a bad day at work. Yay! for you that you didn’t go home & eat! And, you ended up with something good instead - a free portrait!
Zoe, I’m with you on the fruity candy, not a temptation for me at all. Chocolate’s the danger for me too, I love it! I sorta like tootsie rolls, & was pretty excited when I found banana ones, but they weren’t great. And 60 calories each, I’ll pass. Everyones' towns do sound nice, your’s too! I don’t know what I can find to say about the little town I live closest to, but I’m working on it.
That’s enough out of me. I need to shut up & go to bed!
Goodnight.
