The article was talking about the protein being converted to stored glucose in the liver (hepatic) rather than converted to blood glucose, slow conversion from stored glucose to glucose in the bloodstream for utilization, and possibly less conversion from protein to glucose than previously thought. Also .5g per lb of body weight is actually the minimum healthy amount, so you could go a fair bit higher although I wouldn't go so far as 1.5g x lb which some bulking weightlifters use. I also eat a fair bit of protein, closer to the 1g x lb rate but do have to watch as I can start to gain at too high an amount.
