  • This is and amazing group! I have to say it is very motivating! Welcome imabehot and minneey its never too late to join I am thinking ahead to the future and get excited inside when I think about getting out of the 200's! I have a about 40lbs to go but in time it will come
Went to a Zumba class last night and what fun that was! Hope everyone is having a great beginning of 2014!
  • Sorry for being so brief and not taking time to read the thread lately. Got in a huge fight with DS this morning and now I'm going to be barely in time for my Spanish class.

Weighed in at 162.8. One pound in four days... slow and steady wins the race, they say!

Today's an UpDay but I am going to be running around all day so I think all of my calories will be after 4 PM today.

Will check back in tonight to read everyone's progress. While I eat. lol
  • Weigh in time for me

    January 1 weight 229

    Today's weight 229

    Looks like no change eh?

oops, sorry 'bout laughing n yer face

But fact is, I decided to ignore the healthy tasty food I had stocked up on here and went into "cook my own stuff" mode. My own stuff is more in line with spicy Mexican foods. I am not Mexican, but would not mind a bit if I were. Sure would love to be able to have a natural tan without even working for it. Actually, I have never had a tan, my bodies idea of a tan is just different shades of red

Anyway, I was wanting some chili, or that is chili con carne. Which is a gringo dish but made very spicy like. And I am not talking about some of that "chili" which has ketchup and kidney beans and stuff like that in it. Nope. I got two lbs of carne picado (beef steak cut into very small pieces, about 1/4 the size of stew meat or less), and two lbs of adoboda (pork cut into very small thin pieces and marinated in different chili's) and two lbs of boneless chicken thigh/leg meat and cut that up the same. I browned them a little at a time, put them in a large skillet, added a healthy amount of cumin, coriander and some oregano, some water and brought that to a simmer. And I diced up a very large onion, put that in a skillet with a little oil and some chopped up fresh garlic, cooked it until slightly browned and added that to the pot of meats.

I took some (a little over a 1/4 cup each of chili New Mexico and chili Anaheim and some chili pasillo and chili de arbol, placed those in a skillet, turned the heat up high, opened the doors and windows and proceeded to heat the chili up to where it was smoking, stirring it to make sure it all got cooked. Really adds to the flavor --- and drives the bugs and mice outta da house............

These were added to the skillet of carne (meat), water added, cooked for almost two hours, added the juice of two Mexican limes to that. MMMMMMMM Hated to, but I then added a gallon of pinto beans to make it chili beans, lowering the calorie content per cup. That was my only concession to diet. Then I added about 1/4 cup of cornmeal as a thickener and cooked another 30 minutes. Had a two bowls of this chili for my breakfast, which was about 1PM. My two girls had a bowl each and were begging for more. Dang hogs think they are dogs.

Later I had another bowl and a half for dinner. Than another bowl later with a salad for supper.

And the next morning I had a bowl for breakfast. My scales loved it also, they rewarded me with another 4 lbs

I finally got around to finding out how many calories were in each cup. I added up the calories of each ingredient then totaled that. Took the gallon and a half of chili it made and divided that up into cups worth..... a staggering 487 calories per cup But in my own defense........... I gotta tell ya....... It tasted GREAT

From my beginning weight in Jan of 229, I went up to 237........... and back down to

    229

Right back to where I started, and I gotta tell ya I have no regrets That was my cheat half a week

I really hated to, but I packaged that chili up and placed it in the freezer and went back to weight loss mode.

All yall looking real good, love this group, you are very inspirational.

Sorry, but I felt like having a bit of fun with this post.

    Love ya all

    B F R

PS I still have nearly a gallon of that chili left, and I ain't throwing it out either Love chili when weather is cold. Mentioning cold, hope all of you are doing OK in that artic vortex. I kinda feel bad about the fairly warm weather we are having here, around 72 degrees mid-day, does not seem fair.

Zig Ziglar; People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily.
  • Holy moley, Big Fat Rooster, that chili sounds amazing! Thank goodness I can't cook that well (or that long) or I would have an even bigger struggle on my hands.

That might be one meal where I would say, "worth it!"

I am going to really have to be on point the rest of the month to reach 202. A week into this and I am 1 pound more than when I started. Not where I wanted to be but I am not giving up.

  • Glad not to have got stuck at 142, my nemesis weight! Want to write more but can't keep my eyes open, have to start posting before bedtime I think.

My other half flew to Chicago this morning so is joining the big freeze. In the UK right now we're having the big flood, which is not quite as exciting! A week eating for one will probably help kick start my January diet tho :-) every cloud...

  • Jacqui maybe that's part of why my weight bounces around like a Ping pong ball in a windstorm sometimes, but ends up lower overall...my cheat days were leaking into cheat weekends, I was just reading an article on weight loss that said cheat has a negative connotation (I don't buy that) and you should call it treat or reward, so if you start to feel bad about your cheat day (which I doubt you will since it works so great for you) you just change the name

BFR wow, that chili sounds absolutely marvelous, I would have eaten it every meal, too, that's great you were able to freeze some for the future.

Turtle I'm always looking for motivational and inspirational quotes, they really help me.

    Susan glad you're feeling better!

TrayTeam and Woodstock and imabehot and Minneeycongrats on dropping

Thanks everyone for posting, this is a great thread!!
