First Over All at all the games that I played this week.....so sweet. I am humble at the table just showing my a** in front of friends....

You all come on down for dinner Sunday. DH went to local port for "2lbs" of sprimp at $4/lb and came home with 5lbs at $10/lb. They are hugh but that is alot of cash. I'll clean it and freeze most of it if you don't come.

I'll try to get my brain back in order tomorrow and do personals....k3

  • I'll sautee the shrimp in olive oil with dash of real butter and lemon juice and season with lemon pepper. Served with grilled vegies....yellow squash, zucchine, scallons, red peppers, slices of potato, endive, chunks of acorn squash and raddishes seasoned with same stuff minus butter. DH's bud from Marines coming for dinner. They will shot the bull and out lie each other. Pull up a chair and dig in.... k3 ps raddishes grilled taste kinda like mild turnips.
  • I picture it in my mind, what fun, thanks rosey
  • Karen3 - I would love to come for dinner! I like shrimp and grilled veggies. They would fit right in with my WW food plan, plus I'd like to see FL again.

Set a place for me, but not DH....he doesn't do shell fish.
  • Good morning goldies,
Just a quick drop in today. It's going to be a rainy weekend so dh and I are going shopping for hunting and camp supplies. The rain caught the dozer operator that was doing the pad and driveway for ds. We need a little more dirt to be above flood stage so he will be back after it dries up. We ate supposed to get 2 to 4 inches maybe more they said. Ds is doing ok in Wyoming. They sent more techs to meet him and they were all his friends. I think there are 6 of them. They are fixing to move to a 5 bedroom house and get out of the hotels. At least he will be more comfortable in the house than a hotel all the time. He doesn't feel so alone now that he has co workers. He sounded so much better.
Our oldest ds informed us he is scheduled for a test in November to get in clinicals for RN. He is an LPN already and works 40 hours a week and goes to collage part time for his RN. It's taking him a long time to get it but he will. Between school and work he rarely has a day off. Between semesters is about the only time. He has been working every weekend for over 2 years. The company he works for schedules his hours around his school hours. So he can't complain. He does home health but is so ready to go back to the hospital. Very proud of my 2 boys. They are fine young men. There is nothing better than raising your children on a farm in the country. They know all about hard work. Well dh is about ready so off we go to shop. Later. Y'all have a good weekend.
    Personals Monday!!

    Hugs

  • Good Saturday Morning, Goldies!
I haven't been on, ... at least yesterday because I've been kinda busy. I did laundry on Thursday and also went shopping for a few more things. I got a new light fixture for my living room. Now I have to wait for the electrician to come and do the other work and then I'll ask him to connect this one too. I also got a new saw and miter box to cut my trim around the doorways to the kitchen and dining room. I'm hoping to get that trim up in the next couple of days.
I also got myself a sewing machine. I've been wanting one for a long time but just never got one because I was working and didn't have a lot of time to putz around making things. I haven't sewn in about 30 years, or more maybe, but, it's still in my mind how to do the basics anyway. I bought material to make kitchen and dining room curtains. I made one set yesterday for one of the windows in my kitchen and it turned out pretty good, considering I haven't sewn in so long. They're wide enough, but I would have liked them a little wider, so maybe I'll put a sheer in there too. If only the windows were all the same size, but all 3 are different sizes in the kitchen and of course the dining room is a big double window.
I'm sure it will take all of today to get the other 2 for the kitchen done, then I'll tackle the trim.
Then the dining room next week. I don't know where to go with all the stuff I have to move out of these rooms while I'm painting. I'll just have to have a messy, crowded living room for a while.
My one GS had a Cross Country meet in Redwing last night and his parents asked me to pick him up when he got back in town to the high school, so I picked him up ~ 9:30 and then finished up the curtains by 10:30, cleaned up and went to bed by 11:30.

The trees are all of a sudden changing color. Daily differences. beautiful.

Cajun, you have every right to be very proud of those boys of yours. It just goes to show they had good parents raising them.

Carol Sue, I too would love to be at Karen3's for that seafood and grilled veggies. Yummm! I love sea food and don't get to eat it much except for shrimp. Hard to get it fresh around here. Once in a while a truck comes up from down south and sells in fresh from the truck. They drive 24/7 to get here.
I think diabetics can have any vegetable, but try to use mostly the green leafy ones, or the lower glycemic ones, like green beans. If you have the higher carb ones, have less of them, like peas, corn, potatoes, etc. Makes a difference too if they're eaten raw vs cooked, like carrots. Eaten raw they use more calories to digest and take longer to release the carbs.

Rosey, so sorry for your loss of your beloved Gizmo. So sad. It's like losing a child. Anyway it was for me.
Oh my gosh! That Potato corn chowder sounds delicious. Just what I shouldn't have with all the carbs, but, do you have the recipe on here anyplace? I'd love to have it.
I can't believe that the elec Co. expects you to move garden, fence etc!! Can they legally do that??

Karen3, I've never heard of grilled radishes before. I've always eaten them raw, either alone or in salads. I'll have to try that next time I grill veggies. Thanks! That's a lot of shrimp! And a lot of money! I know it will be delicious though.
Congratulations on those wins too! Good job!

Hello Gayle, Hope you're having a good weekend. You always leave such nice msgs on here.

Rie, sorry to hear of your parents sadness over the loss of a friend. Isn't it so true that we hurt when they hurt?
You're probably running your race about now as I write this. Hope you're having fun, and good luck.
What's the comedy and wine tasting evening for women? Could you explain it to me? Is it something that's done at someones house? I've been trying to think of something to keep in touch with some of my friends and co-workers now that I'm retired, and this sounds like it could be something to do. I also want to get a book club going, but it seems like someone is always not able to do it because of working hours etc.

Bobbi, so they have your yard dug up by now. That's a lot of mess for a while. My son is a contractor and lives up north of Grand Rapids on a lake, and he put in a new septic system by himself and had it inspected as he went. Lots of work, but now it just looks like a natural hill on the property.
I know you're probably pretty stressed by now though.

Mary, glad your thumb is better. Good that you convinced hubby to not get up on a ladder. I was taking chances too in my kitchen, but I moved slowly when going up or down and it all worked out. I won't have so much of that in the DR.

Well, I better get moving here or I'll never get my curtains done. I suppose I missed a few personals, but will try to catch you later. I hope you all have a great weekend. Take care, ..... Carbie
  • Good Morning, All…

Pretty, pretty day here! The lawns have all recovered because of the few rains we’ve had, and all is glistening and green.

Mary – is your thumb all better? I’m sure you’ll get back on track with your diet now that all the company has gone. You’re pretty focused, it seems.

Rie – WHEN will you have time to freeze apples this weekend? It seems that you’re scheduled for every second of the day, what with socializing, running, and running amok. I sort of remember that boundless energy. Is the Crud a distant memory, I hope? Have your kids moved yet? Do you have both g’sons close now?

KarenFL – congrats on being the BridgeQueen! My neighbor is a Master (does that sound right?), and I’m assuming she’s pretty good, too…. but does that equal a BridgeQueen? Oh, and the shrimp dinner sounds wonderful! I think it would be so much fun to come to visit you! I can already hear the laughter…and it’s making me happy!

Carbie – no one could ever call you lazy! I’m impressed with all the work you’re doing around the house. And I’ll try to not be so subtle…. Do you have another name that you want to share besides “Carbie”?

Cajun – so glad your DS is doing better! Getting out of a hotel into a house should probably help, too. I know how worried you continue to be, but it sounds like things are leveling off, finally. Good thoughts continue! And, yes, both your boys sound like fine young men. I think you and your DH should be very proud! You did a good job!

Bobbi – did they finish the septic tank? I hope all is completed before the snows fly. Any other bites on the house?

Hey, Rosey – you sound better, my friend! It’s a good sign that you’re looking at ads for pups again, and I know that you’ll adopt again when you’re ready. Gizmo will always be in your heart, and you won’t be replacing him. Has Tootsie quit grieving?

Gayle – how ARE you? Is work driving you totally crazy? It seems like they’re trying to do so!

Nothing much on the agenda for today, just the same ol’, same ol’ catch-up-before-it-all-gets-dirty-again crap. It’s all so BORING. I’ve been reading vociferously lately and am keeping the library in business. I’ve also completed several more baby afghans (a friend donates them to Birthright, a haven for low income new mamas), and I’ve spent many hours sitting on my big ol’ butt. It’s what I do best. And now I think I’ll get some breakfast and maybe start (and finish?) something productive.
Hope all is well with everyone… happy Saturday!

  • Oh my! I think I'm becoming addicted to this board! I was here this morning, and now I sat down to have lunch and logged on AGAIN!

Jess, I think I'd rather not share my true name just yet. Reason: Relatives who get a kick out of finding me on the 'net, then making fun of my messages.
You'd think they'd have more to do than follow an old woman around the internet, wouldn't you? Their life must be pretty boring.
I keep too busy for stuff like that. And, even though I work a lot, I never lose weight. I guess I'm just a glutton. Eat too much of all the wrong things.

Rie, how do you freeze apple slices? Just wash them and slice them up and put into bags and throw into the freezer? Or do you freeze them separately on a cookie sheet first, then put them into a freezer bag? I wish I had an apple tree. I like applesauce with cinnamon on pancakes too. Hadn't thought of it in plain yogurt. Sounds good too.

Rosey, thank you, thank you, thank you for your recipe. MMMMMMM, ... sounds so good to have on a snowy winter night.

I got one more set of curtains done. For the window in the door. I just hope that when the new door is put in that it has the same size window in it.
Now I have to make them for this weird-sized window. I can't imagine why anyone would build a house with a window that is 14.5 inches wide and 56 inches long. With the trim it's 61 by 20 inches. I have to go get a new rod for it too as the one on there is gold and I want white. They're hard to find at that length too.

when I started this I said I was going to make it a Monday through Friday job, but, I can't stand to not keep going. Seems like I'm wasting time if I'm not doing something that needs to be done.
I can only do these two rooms and the basement for now anyway. The contractors will be tearing all the rest of the rooms apart, so no sense in doing anything with them until they finish. IF they ever get started!
  • Hi everyone well we had snow yesterday and a hard frost last nite yikes its a bit early, but didnt last and the suns shining today. dh picked all our apples and i had enuff to make a pie and im allowing myself a small piece hoping your weekends awsome, rosey ps tootsie's sad too and missing gizmo.

  • Shrimp at K3's and apple pie at Rosey's?
  • Gayle, you mentioned taking pics and putting them on here.
Can you tell me how to do that? Step by step? I'm kind of technically deficient. Thanks! ..... Carbie
  • Shrimp and apple pie sound good!! We are having diiner at my sister's tomorrow. It is actually her birthday dinner(birthday was the 27th) Her daughter came up from Fayetteville and is making a burrito dinner and then birthday cake and ice cream! At least the cake will be sugar free--- they order their cakes made here from a lady in town that makes the best sugar free cakes!! Yummy! You cannot tell that it is sugar free. Should make for a nice Sunday afternoon.

Carbie-- my goodness I read your post and then I need to lay down and take a nap! I envy you that you can do all that. You should take some pictures and share with us.. we'd love to see them.

Ginger and Sissy both had dentals done yesterday. It ended up being $338.40 for the both of them.. glad it is "Dental Month" and we got 15% off!! But Ginger had 3 teeth pulled and Sissy had one pulled. They both came home with antibiotics and pain meds. They also had some stuff that you put in the water to help keep their breath smelling nice and also works to reduce the plaque and tartar build up. Gosh! It was $18.49. Think I might check and see if there is something you can buy at the pet stores that might work as good but cheaper! They haven't felt real chipper today. Tomorrow should be better.

Gayle, I love that picture! You look so happy. I've saved it!

Well, I kind of am just pooped tonight. I slept with on eye open last night since the girls pain meds kind of make them see "pink elephants" in the room! Sissy likes to start off on the bed but then she is up and down most of the night so I was only half sleeping so she wouldn't fall off the bed!! Ginger just likes to sleep under the bed. Tonight should be much better---I hope!

Try to catch up with more personals later on...Have a great rest of the weekend!
  • Hi Carbie,

I will try to help. Do you have pictures saved to your computer? First you click on the post reply box. Then you make your reply as usual, from there, scroll down a bit and you will see a place that says attach files. You click on the thing that says manage attachments. That brings up a window. You click on browse and choose a picture from your computer. Then you click on upload and it will say uploading files ~ please wait. Then it will change and list the picture as a current attachment. You can then close that window and it takes you back to the reply screen. You click on submit reply and your picture should be there at the bottom of your post.

    Hope that helps.

I was just trying to do one, but it said that my picture needs to be resized. I will have to get help from some of the other ladies. They know how to do that.
