  • Quote: With week one, how will I cope with the hunger without going off plan?
Some coaches will tell you to have 4 IP packs a day ... I personally could have used a 4th packet which for me would have come between breakfast and lunch but the rest of the day I never really felt hungry. There are some unlimited veggies you can eat between meals as well. Week 1 (probably the first 2 or 3 days really) are tough but once you get in a routine I think it gets easier.
  • Quote: I live off Rutabaga fries. They're my go to when I'm really hungry but sick and tired of a salad or my usual veggies.

I bought jicama this weekend. Planning to try it tonight! I've heard some good things about it as well.
I can't find Jicama. I just made Brussels sprouts, which I've never care for but I found this recipe and really enjoyed them:

  • Quote: I started (restarted) last Monday with combo IP/Alternatives. I weighed in (at home) on
Are the alternatives cheaper? I am still realing from the $300 plus price tag, but I am desperate to loose the weight
  • Quote: Hi all! I just joined IP today. Met with my coach and picked up my starter pack. I've taken out the restricted items that were in it and tucked them way up high on a pantry shelf. I'll have to really think before having one.
Tomorrow is day 1, scared and anxious but ready to get started.
I got my kit yesterday. Which ones are restricted?
  • Quote: Hey everyone! Today is day 1 for me. I went and picked up my products last Thursday and got weighed and measured up! I've done IP on and off for what seems like ever now, so I'm pretty well prepared. I mentioned last week my coach switched to Pro Energy earlier this year so I am technically doing that, not IP, but they are very similar programs, and since I love the support on this forum I'm hoping I can stick around!
The nice thing about Pro Energy is that they actually encourage you to work out, so I'm off to my class at the gym over the lunch hour. Guessing I'll probably crash after work so figured I should get my workout in while I still have the motivation!
Congrats to all of you on your losses so far! IP is a great program, in some ways more difficult because of how strict it is, but for me it's a lot easier to have strict guidelines than for me to count points or just eat reasonably. I don't have an inbetween stage, I'm either all in or all out.
Is pro energy also a part of ideal protein?
  • Quote: Honestly, I sort of went hog crazy the weekend before I started so I think I was just carrying a ton of water weight when I first weighed in.
My coach is now selling Pro-Energy products, not IP products, but they're very similar.

I do typically drink 80-96 oz of water a day, so that may have helped. I also worked out, at a high intensity, 4 days last week. I know on IP they recommend you don't work out, and as I continue this might end up hindering my weight loss, but for now I'm not willing to give up my workouts.

On Pro-Energy you count your carbs, it's not just based on 4 cups of approved veggies a day plus three IP products. I'm on the program where you can have 40-45 g net carbs/day. Might be worth counting your carbs for a day or two just to see where you're hitting. Sometimes it's just an eye opener to realize how many carbs are in certain (even approved) veggies and if you want to see higher results maybe cut those down a bit?

As mentioned before, I've done IP a few times now, and the time I saw the best results I tracked my net carbs, just for education and informational purposes. If I was eating rutabaga one day, I would eat other lower carb veggies that day just to be safe.

I know lots will say on IP you don't need to do that, those that created the diet do it for you, you just need to follow the 4 cups/day of approved veggies, and I'm not disagreeing with that. But if you've stalled or are trying to see bigger losses, or even if, like me, you just do it for informational purposes, it doesn't hurt to track your net carbs.

You know I wondered about this .... I use fatsecret even though I am on the IP and I still finish each day with between 45 and 65 carbs ... I would have thought the number would be lower because even on a diet such as Atkins they have you start at about 20 net carbs a day .... Im going to follow the program but seeing the vegetables and their carbs on fatsecret help me choose which veggies to eat in a day ... I have noticed that rutabaga and broccoli are both higher carb veggies.

I stayed around 30 net carbs a day on P1 with no problem. When you say 45 to 65 carbs, are you talking net carbs? Two cups of broccoli has about 7 net carbs. 2 cups of rutabaga has about 16 net carbs (which is why it is an occasional veggie). It's quite possible that your net carbs are coming in higher if you are on more than 3 packs per day. At your starting weight 45 to 65 net carbs might be totally appropriate. And congrats on your losses so far!

And while I agree there is no real need to track while on P1, I did in MFP just because I knew if I wanted to maintain the loss I was going to have to track since, apparently, not tracking and doing things my way tends to make me fat. So I figured I'd better get in the habit!

Hmmmmm .... maybe its not NET carbs .... the category on fatsecret just says carbs ... maybe I need to learn more about the difference between NET CARBS and CARBS if there is a difference.

My fatsecret says 2 cups of chopped broccoli has 12 carbs in it ...

You need to subtract the fiber from the carbs. Fiber isn't digested so it doesn't count.

Look at that ... Fatsecret has a column for Net Carbs ... After changing my column from Carbs to net carbs it appears I am having for like 25 to 47 net carbs a day .... LOL ... OOPS!!!!

    There ya go!
  • Hey everyone! I just started IP today, first time ever! I'm really excited. I'm huge into weight lifting and yoga so I think giving those up while on the plan will be the biggest challenge but it'll be worth it! I can't wait to lose weight will you all!
  • Amy - ProEnergy is a different diet than IP. It seems a number of IP coaches in Canada have switched to ProEnergy. It's a VERY similar program though, and since I always used this forum as my support group, I'm hanging out here anyways!

Kim - welcome! Listen to your coach, but when I did IP I continued doing pilates 4-6 times a week and still had quick weight loss results. My coach always just said as long as you could carry on a conversation, it was okay to work out - so just keep your intensity at a level that isn't too high. Might be something to mention to your coach and see what she thinks, if you'd rather not give up yoga and weight lifting.

Ruth Ann & TOgden - my net carbs usually fell around 30 g/day as well and it wasn't a struggle. I had pretty good weight loss results at the time. I'm actually finding it difficult to hit 40 g these days, but my coach wants me to keep it around there if I want to keep my high intensity workouts.
  • PrincessM - those brussel sprouts sound awesome!

dosbabe - you should speak with your coach on the restricted ones. Also there should have been a list in your welcome package that indicates them. Did you have your first meeting and this was all explained?

knm - I think your system of counting carbs is great! I figure the more you know the better, right? I think I should start tracking on MFP. Do they have a lot of the IP foods already set up?

kimo - WELCOME!!!! Looking forward to sharing your journey, it's a great team we have here for sure!

    -------------------------------------------

Today I am feeling thinner. Yesterday I was NOT. This diet is SO strange in that I have certain days where I feel like I have to be losing and other days where I feel like nothing changed since I started 16lbs ago, lol!

I'm looking forward to my weigh in this weekend, I am going to talk with my coach about introducing some light weight lifting a few times a week. Let's see what she says!
