  • Busy day today...Each director in my department has a treats table, and I'm on the committee for my director's table. So our job was to set up and decorate the treats table and keep it stocked. Then we're accepting donations in exchange for the treats people take, and we're competing with the other directors' tables to raise the most money for the food pantry.

I am exhausted! Don't know why...but I'm hoping I get my second wind (not counting on it though).

Happy - Enjoy your last day before retirement!! Hugs!

    Love and hugs to all,
  • Morning all. Will try to keep this short. I'm working a half day today so I can be home to help keep the dog sane while the trick-or-treaters visit.

Shad - I hope you got your travel plans sorted out, or at least got the keys to the person who needs the car! Heard a blurb about Quantas (sp?) on the radio news which included a sound bite from some guy unhappy about being left in a lurch.

Ceejay - It never seems to be a cheap trip to Walmart. Yesterday we went and it was over $100 - Halloween candy, big pack of paper towels, contact lens supplies, my facial cleanser, etc, brought the tally up. Other times it's the purchase of dog food that jacks up the total. Even Trader Joe's on Saturday was $70 - some wine and beer made the difference there. Sigh.

Mel - Sounds like the weekend from **** is continuing. You posted, so obviously you still have power! Thank goodness. Take care my friend!

Michelle - So you've already finished with your trick-or-treaters? Awww, that's kind of strange and un-fun. Oh well. I'd give you my recipe for the cranberry-orange bread, but you can just find it on the back of the Ocean Spray cranberry bag! All I did was approximately double the amount of cranberries by using the entire bag (left some whole and coursely chopped some) and I also increased the amount of nuts. The baking time was increased - not sure if it was the additional volume or just my oven.

Annie - Sounds like Jake is doing really well!! I'm so happy to hear that! LOL re Curtis with the candy. We bought ours yesterday evening and I was digging into it, so thank goodness today is the day to give it all away!!

Happy - Hope this bed is the end-all, be-all for you and dh. I agree that the hefty price makes one give pause when taking that in. If it helps both of you get better rest and is good on the joints, then it'll be worth it. Have a wonderful final day of work. I'm sure the years ahead are stretching in front of you, and leaving something you've done all of your adult life is sort of scary, but you'll certainly adjust soon enough!! I hope you have zero/minimal mail snafus.

Weekend went by too fast. I realized I had a hair appointment on Sat. morning that fell too early for me to have done an exercise class and been showered before the appt. Darn. Ended up watching a Biography episode about Will Smith and doing a load of laundry instead. Afterwards was a visit to the resale shop. Bought a brand new heating pad thingy that has beans in it and heats in the microwave, as well as two packs of those closet space expanders which you can hang 5 things in the spaces of 1. One of the very few "As Seen on TV" things I ever thought was really worthwhile...

Went to the shoe store and finally got my $20 credit for the 2nd pair half off deal. Now I'm square with that, and will make a point of always buying two pair if there's a next time shopping trip! Also did a Trader Joe's and Costco trip. Costco didn't have two of the things we wanted and we had to wait 15 min. for a new batch of rotisserie chickens, so we ended up eating 4 out of 5 different cheese samples one woman was pushing, LOL.

Dinner and Karaoke was a lot of fun. When we first got to the bar after dinner, there was a guy I have now learned (from my co-worker) was dressed as Borat. I never saw the movie, but she immediately knew what I was talking about based on my description. (If you're really interested, Google "Borat photos" and you'll see it, or just picture a thong speedo w/ suspenders. Eeeew. ) Any, this guy of very average build - even a bit heavier and dumpier and hairy and tattooed - is in this "outfit" and it was like a car accident - can't help looking. But a few minutes later he left the bar, and we think he was asked to leave because of his "costume" (or lack thereof). I hope he didn't have to stop anywhere on the way home, LOL.

Yesterday was a lazy morning, and then I got out in the wind and took out the veggie garden and the fencing around it. I have two very full grocery bags of tomatoes in various stages of ripeness. Luckily I finished with everything just before the rain started!!

Bf and I went to an early dinner and then to Walmart and that was it for me. Just a little tv and reading before hitting the hay.

Okay, this isn't short at all. C'est la vie. Nothing super urgent today, so after I post I'm going to call the Help folks and ask some questions about my new Microsoft Outlook version 10, which they just installed last week.

Okay, I get to use all the Halloween emoticons today, LOL:
  • Michelle - Great fundraising idea! Today was our bake sale, also part of our fundraising activities. They were also selling raffle tickets for a variety of things. Tuesday is our finale, and I have to say I'm just about ready for it to be over!

Hope you get your second wind!

  • Morning all,
Posted yesterday from the airport, but the internet link wasn't working too well and I lost the lot. Anyway lets start again.

There is nothing wrong with my ears apart from the fact that I spent 7 hours on the phone listening to rotten music and hearing that automatic woman saying 'please hold and the next available operator will be with you shortly'. After seven hours I decided that it really wasn't my job and rang the booking and accommodation person from work to do the job for me. Naturally enough she didn't because it was Sunday.
Anyway the situation is or rather was that Qantas has been having these rolling strikes for six or eight weeks. If it wasn't the Pilots, it was the Engineers and if it wasn't them it was the Baggage Handlers. Apparently the engineers want not only a pay rise, but job security as well. Wonder which century they live in. Baggage handlers and pilots have been negotiating pay increases (but not productivity increases) for quite some time and negotiations have always broken down. The CEO of Qantas through his board negotiated himself a nice little bonus ($7.1million AUD) and a wage increase to $2m Aus per year. Things were coming to a head. Finally the CEO grounded the entire airline - wherever they were! There are people stuck in places like LA, NY, London, Japan, UAR, and NZ to name just a few places with little prospect of getting a flight out for up to 12 days. Just imagine what that could do for your budget particularly if you were having to fork out for accommodation etc.
The Government then stepped in and ordered the airline to arbitration with Fair Work (department designed to sort out disputes) and they decided at 1.30 am to force the whole lot back to work. The company and the union now have 21 days to sort out their differences or back they go to arbitration.
Yesterday I got a flight with another airline to come down to Sydney and the little airline that flies between Sydney and Mudgee delayed the afternoon flight to accommodate as many travellers as they could. It's chaos in airports I can tell you. And I feel very sorry for the front line staff who caused none of this chaos, but who are taking the brunt of a disgruntled flying public. Grace under pressure is how I would describe some of those people.

Anyway, here I am at Mudgee and I wonder why. Today is Melbourne cup day (horse racing - bigger than the Kentucky Derby) and no one wants to work today. They are off to the pub for lunch, they are placing bets, running sweeps and having competitions for raceday hats - but work is a really distant second, so why the **** did I bust a gut trying to get here. Beats me.

Mel - hope the troubles get sorted shortly and you get some rest. All that snow. It's much too early for snow. Mind you I did go to a Big W store in September and they had (the C word) decorations going. I nearly walked out. What ever happened to seasonal festivities.

Happy - hope the bed works just fine. Just ensure if you are going to be riding it all the way to Wisconsin, that the wheels are up to the journey!!!
Last day of work for you. Is there an ENVY smilie????

Annie - good to hear that wee Jacob is putting on weight steadily and is doing well.

Michelle - Better sell all those treats fast otherwise you will be eying them up yourself. Get outa there fast

Ceejay - hope you get those chemicals sorted out quickly

Laura - that cranberry bread did sound good. Might have to make it myself. Yes we do get the Ocean Spray stuff over here.

Better go and see if anyone is motivated enough to need my help although I doubt it. See ya. Oh yeah and I will set up a new thread sometime today if someone doesn't beat me to it.
  • We gotta have some new parts for one of the chemical pumps.
I've got some extra energy so I'm cleaning the lab and baathroom. I realize this is the night crew's job but it isn't getting done. I'm saving evidence to show the one who also bawk's about her getting singled out every time. She doesn't, I think she has a guilty conscience. I'm going tell her that I'm going to continue to do this but I'm getting her pay raise. The same thing I've told our supervisor Thursday.

    Annie
Went to your page on FB and found the little tike. No wonder you love him so much. He's a little cutie.

    Mel
    Stick up for yourself.

    Happy
How was your last day? Curious about your costume comments!!!!!

    Michelle
    Like the fund raising idea.
