Kathleen, congrats on weight going down. Way to go.
Karen3, great you are staying OP and exercising.
Betsy, hi from a retired teacher. I did find that running on treadmill did not kill the body as much as running on cement.
Lori, 2 pounds down. Fantastic.
Cat ( hard to figure out names sometimes). Loved your description of England. One of my favourite places was Hampton Court Palace becuase I am really into embroidery and there were two stitchery guild offices there. (very friendly folk).
Freda, what a fantastic weight loss. Its a great inspiration.

Weather is fantastic this morning and I can't wait to get outside and finish digging the pool and planting the plants that wrrived in the mail yesterday.
have a great day.

Morning everyone! Fantastic weather here today...was in the 40's overnight and is warming up to the 80's later on. My last 3 classes today have been canceled due to field trips. I have a new sundress on and it's a shame to waste it, so I'm trying to find a free friend this morning to go get some coffee or something. Hate to go home as my work slate is clear right now.

Good morning, everyone.

So nice to see such a big group posting this morning. It is overcast and cool here for a change, thank goodness. Maybe I can get myself out and do something around here.

Stepped on the scale and am down another .2 lbs. I am so jazzed that this program is working so well. And I never really go hungry. I hope to be under the dreaded 300 lb. mark by the end of the week.

Yesterday was the death of my window air conditioner. Actually, it died about a month ago, but yesterday, I had a repairman come over to check it out, and he pronounced it dead. Just turned it on and looked inside with his flashlight, and that will be $94 please. A neighbor who used to work on air conditioners came over and took it apart, and yes, the compressor bit the big one. So, I decided to see if I could find a good used one on line - e-mailed a couple guys on Craigslist who were advertising. One said he already had 13 bids on his and the other just wanted to trade with someone for a different model. So, looks like I have to go buy a new one - so it will have to wait a month or so. They're not in stock in most of the stores around here yet.

Other than that, yesterday was very pleasant, and today is supposed to be even cooler, then warm up a bit for the next week or so, but not that horrid heat we had a few days ago.

Lynn, I'm with you re the decluttering. I am not making much progress with my attempts - no place to stash anything around here so when I pack it up, it has to go to Salvation Army or someplace. And I loved the description of your trips to England. That is the next big trip I hope to take. I love to cruise as it is safe and comfortable for me - I usually travel alone - but my next cruise has to be out of London so I can spend sometime sightseeing either before or after the cruise.

Time to go feed my dog and get busy. He keeps chewing on the hem of my nightie as I type and is my little shadow until he gets fed.

Have a lovely day.

Hello to the newest members. Nice to have some more "shorties" in the group

Lynn, you are looking great! Congrats to Kathleen and Lori on your weight losses.

I am starting the South Beach eating plan this week and am hoping the induction will get me on the right track again. I was doing a modified Atkins for quite a while, so it won't be that much different since my carbs were very limited. I know I bought that SB book a few years ago, now if I can only find it.....

I envy those who are enjoying the warmth of spring. It was 28 degrees here yesterday morning when I took the doggies out. I have yet to get into anything resembling spring-weight clothing. They said it will probably get up to 60 degrees today (whoop-de-doo).

I've got a ton of errands to run today and a class tonight, so I'd better get going.

Lily

Default Thanks!

Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome. This sounds like the group for me...lots of activity! Sounds like many of you are having success right now with your weight loss. Congratulations. You inspire me!

I'm going to get in a brisk walk this afternoon before I start in on my yardwork. My goal is to exercise at least 5 days a week. I'll let you know how that goes.

I really, really (can you hear me whining???) want one of those bars under my name to plot my progress. How did you guys get one?

Thanks again,
Betsy

Aww BETSY . . .

We get a lot of less than desireable new members from time to time that only come to big sites like this one in order to promote their own money-making schemes by posting links to their own less-than honest endeavours.

Consequently, we now restrict the ability of new members to post signature lines -- which is where the little weight-loss trackers reside -- to those who have been a member for at least 30 days and have made at least 30 posts.

Stick around and post lots and the time will just fly by, kiddo . . . then we'll be able to help you set up your ticker.

Default Makes sense!

OK, the whining has ended. That makes sense to me. I am pleased that these measures are taken to keep the undesirables out!

Thanks,
Betsy

BTW . . . you can get an avatar now if you want . . . That's the little spot to the left of the post just under your name -- where my saucy cat, Purrecious, is staring out at you.

Just click on the "User CP" entry on the main purple navigation bar at the top of each forum page. Then click on the "Edit Avatar" entry in the list on the left side of the new screen, and follow the directions that will come up.

You can pick from lots of predesigned ones -- there are pages and pages of them -- or you can download a 'custom avatar' like mine.

If you need help, give me a yell . . .

Woodlily, I've been on the beach for a year now and still love it. Never bored with it or tempted by stuff I now think of as "poison". Met my goal about a month ago.
Re, the book...the new one is now out. I preordered it months ago and got it in today, so you may want to look out for it at your library or local book store.

Betsy...hi! I'm also a teacher. Taught "regular" kindergarten for years and now teach computer lab 1/2 days.
I lived in WA for about a year. I was 5 months pregnant with my 27 year old daughter when we moved there, so it was a long time ago. We lived there for about a year. Very beautiful state...but of course I was glad to come again at the end of the year.

Good evening y'all...Just spent 2 hours with Ebay and paypal. Everytime I wanted to pay they switched to a German payer service, would have been fine, but I don't speak German and it won't translate into English. I never say yes or no to anything I'm not sure of ended up with firing off a few emails and quit for the day. GRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Having a great Bridge week and just came in 1st again for 3rd time. Love it when everything is crystal clear and playing is as sweet as dancing.

Woodlily...Welcome to the Beach. As Cat says it becomes such a normal way to eat. The shift from Atkins to South Beach will be easy except for the guilt when you do things like drink V8 juice.

Cat...Is the new South Beach much different from 1st? Do I need it?

Kathleen...How big an a/c are you looking for? After living without one down here for over a week.....no electric so no fans either I couldn't bear to do it again. Got a generator and will put in tiny a/c for 1 room if happens again. Plus have 2 battery fans just in case. You have earthquakes we have hurricanes.

DH and I will be married 50 years this fall. He has been my best friend for even longer and seldom surprises me. Today he had dinner ready when I got home. This is a man can't cook. It was wonderful. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Sunset time, take care of yourself, eat healthy and hugs...Karen3

Hi, again

I agree with Karen3. I started Atkins about a month ago, immediately lost about 3 lbs and stopped. That went on for about 2 or more weeks, up and down those 3 or 4 lbs., plus not feeling too hot. I decided to try SB and just did Phase 2. I figured I more than did Phase 1 with the Atkins program. It took a few days, but then the weight started to drop and I seem to lose a little bit about every other day. And I feel good - not deprived. I love V8 and was so happy when I could have it again.

I live in a mobilehome so have casement windows. Most of the units I find on line are either 8,000 BTU or 10,000 BTU. I prefer the larger one, but regardless, they cost about $500 plus shipping plus installation. So I am figuring it will run me a good $750-800 to get a new one and get it installed. That will only cool my living room. But I only have a fan for the bedroom, and it is usually cooler in the evenings so I can deal with that. I have been for the past 26 years. But I live in the living room during the day and it gets sweltering when the temperature gets way up there.

I bought a little generator years ago, but haven't had occasion to use it. It is probably out of charge by now. We haven't had a serious earthquake since about 1993 or so - cross fingers and hope to God.

Just went out to Pollo Loco and had some chicken, green salad and nuked veggies - left the carrots and put the avocado salsa on everything in place of dressing. Yum. Cheap and good.

Have a lovely evening. It is so nice here tonight - about 68 degrees at 6 p.m.
