Default Why am I ITCHING everywhere? Shrinking Maybe?

Before when I would put on weight, my skin would itch, I guess because it was stretching. Now I have been itching everywhere really bad. Could this be because I am shrinking and my skin is in shock or something? Anybody else had this happen? "Scratch, scratch".........

Are you eating any new foods? Taking any new meds? Allergic to something in the air? There are many reasons for itching - especially if it's all over your body. If it doesn't go away I'd have it looked at. And, as my mother would say, stop scratching!

Sometimes you can be allergic to a laundry detergent or maybe a new soap/lotion?

Maybe your skin is too dry from not enough water or good sorce of oil, like olive(I like the extra lite)-no heavy taste. Don't have to use a lot. My skin was itching and I realized I hadn't been eating any salads and not drinking enough water. Also if you can use a moisterizing soap -it helps to ease the itch. Even baby oil in your bath water will help-even if it makes the tub a mess.

If you rule out allergies, in addition to Carol's suggestions I've found that taking 1 fish oil capsule per day works WONDERS! My hair and skin are gorgeous from it.

My mom had itching when she was loosing weight, it began as an itch, but turned into rash, a very itchi rash. It continued through out the time, and the cause has been that intestines began clearing out of the bad stuff she has eated for ears, and body still continued to get it nutriants from there you cannot stop it, but the nutriants were not always fresh, and hence body or skin rather was alergic...
To soothe the rash/itching she used various moisturizing creams, and a soothing back everyday, wore cotton only clothing which she washed in hot water after only 1 wearing. Once she lost 95% of the weight the itch/rash went away.
there is also another thing someone recommended, but I don't know whether she did it. It is hard to blow noze for a 1 mo old little babies, so a little suction is used. Recommendation has been to use suction from behind with water to get rid of many bad things in your intestine (if that's what's causing the alergy).
I am not saying you have the same, but certainly having it checked out by the docror is the best.

I've had a simular problem but mine occured everytime I went from sloth mode to fit active babe. My legs, belly, back would itch incessantly. I wanted to pull my skin off! It was terrible.

So after doing a bit of research this is what I had found... amazingly enough right here at 3FC.

Quote:
"Itchy skin usually occurs during exercise performed after a long period of inactivity. The itching is not on the skin, it's inside the actual limbs. There are millions of tiny capillaries and arteries inside our muscles which expand rapidly due to the demand for more blood that is brought on by exercise. When fit, these capillaries remain open allowing maximum blood passage, but when unfit and inactive they tend to collapse, allowing only minimal blood passage (which is sufficient for a sedentary person however). The rapid expansion of these vessels causes adjacent nerves to send impulses back to the brain which are interpreted as an itch. That's why after a few sessions the sensation tends to go away. Just another indication of increasing fitness levels."
