???'s about Blue Bunny & Laughing Cow

I read someone's post a while back regarding Blue Bunny products. I have bought them in the past and knew the yogurt has Splenda as the sweetener. The frozen treat bars had aspartame as the sweetener, does anyone know if they still do or now have Splenda in them? The nearest Super Walmart that carries them is pretty far away for me to check. So if anyone knows could you please let me know? (I prefer to use sucralose rather than aspartame). Also, someone mentioned Sam's Club having Laughing Cow cheese. I did go there but all they carried was the regular not light. Maybe some Sam's carries different products? BTW while at Sam's I noticed the liquid egg substitute in larger packaging & was much cheaper than at the grocery store, also they had a nice roll of Canadian bacon, much cheaper too.

I think it would be nice if we had a thread of info like that. I really appreciate hearing about new food ideas, products and good deals that I can get that pertain to this WOE. Having its own thread would make it easy to find such info.

I hope all of you are having a good evening.

Deets 09-19-2003 09:22 PM

Hi, Snoozin!

In response to your question about Blue Bunny products:

I love the Blue Bunny yogurt with Splenda, and I also know

that they carry the ice cream bars called Health Smart that are

FF and sweetened with Splenda. They are delicious, and come

in about 3 flavors.

I think a "Sticky' about Acceptable Food info. would be great! Pass the word on to Ruth.....she's our moderator.

I love it when we share great finds with each other!:)

Talk later......

Ruthxxx 09-19-2003 10:22 PM

Done! Can I please go to bed now? I'm on overtime!

Snoozin 09-20-2003 01:31 AM

Ruth , Thank you, now please go to bed!!

To All Beach Chicks:

Please use this sticky to post any new or favorite products that you have used and like and are acceptable on SBD (and mention where you buy them). If you use these products in a particular way that you may think others would enjoy, please share the info. If you have a useful tip about something SBD related, please pass it along too. If you have a recipe though, please list it the SBD recipe section. Also, if you find any of the food items we use at a really good price, please pass that on as well.

We can all benefit by knowing what's out there.

Some of the products may have been previously mentioned in other posts, But this sticky will be especially helpful to all the new chicks on the beach.

Hopefully this will be a reference thread that we can go back to to find that type of info easily. If we get a lot of response, the sticky may need to be divided into categories. We'll see...

Since I'm here already, I'll start with the first things that I'd like to share, I have more, which I will post tomorrow, but I want to go to bed too!

1. I was at Sam's Club yesterday and found liquid egg substitute in a bulk pack and a big roll of Canadian bacon for a LOT less than in the grocery store.
2. The ricotta cheese I buy is from the fresh meat counter at my local grocery store. It is fresh and comes in thick slices by the pound and IMO is way tastier than the stuff in containers (although I haven't tried them all). If you like coconut flavor, try using it in your ricotta creme and stir in a few slivered almonds. I also tried a dash of cinnamon and a few walnuts pieces for an equally good taste experience!

more later...nighty, night!

Deets 09-20-2003 10:08 AM

Oh-h-h, Ruthie.......

You're an Angel!!

I know this "Sticky" will be helpful to all of us.

Hope you got some sleep, but it's A.M. now....

so get up, already!

Thanks for sharing, Snoozin!:grouphug:

This thread is a great idea Snoozin'. Thanks

Yesterday I found some low carb snack crackers. 1 gram of carbohydrate per cracker. Called Andre's Carbo Save.

Ingredients are, Soy, Almond, & Hazelnut flour, Water, Canola Oil, Zanthin Gum, Granulated onion and salt.

Found them in the Diet food section at our Albertsons. They are good with some Laughing Cow cream cheese.
Also processed them into crumbs to use in stuffed mushrooms. I'll let you know how they turn out. Lizzie

Andres's Bakery, Forest Hills, N.Y. 11375

Probably those gals on the other side of the moon could order on line. :D:

Snoozin 09-20-2003 03:02 PM

Okay fellow chicks here we go with a few more tips:

DaVinci SF syrups, many flavors & they are good. Available in 6.3 and 25.4 oz. bottles. The larger bottles are by far the better price value. Found at Super Wal Mart, some grocery stores, you will have to check your area, and on the internet. I have purchased some SF items from Carbsmart.com and Netrition.com(although it has been some time since). Some of the low carb sites have a lot of SF products. There is also SF flavored gelatin made with Splenda that comes from Australia that is good. Bajabob.com has decent SF Margarita mix in bottles.

Best price I've found on Splenda packets at Sam's Club.

As cjar855 mentioned, Natural Oven's has wonderful bread products, high in fiber. As always though, you must read labels carefully, to be sure it goes with theSBD plan. Natural Ovens is based in Wisconsin.

Droste (dutch) Cocoa powder is also a good find. It only has 15 calories & 1 g fat per tablespoon. I like to mix 1 tsp. into the ricotta creme and also in my decaf coffee with splenda and splash of the Land'O Lakes fat free half and half. Yum. There again only some grocery stores carry it. A local store, Strack and Van Til carries it my area, but you may have to look around.

IF YOUR LOCAL STORE DOES NOT CARRY PRODUCTS YOU WANT--
Go to the customer service counter and request the item be stocked. You may not get all the products you want, but some stores really do try to be helpful. Give them as much information about the product so they will be more inclined to help. Keep asking and keep checking, cheerfull persistence can pay off.

ALSO, keep in mind that if you can't find a product where you think it should be, ask at the service desk, it may be somewhere you might not have thought of.

I'll send more later,

Angel26519 09-20-2003 03:40 PM

Diet Rite Soda is made with Splenda and isnt that bad tasting....reminds me of Store Brand Colas.......

Lizziepie 09-21-2003 02:56 PM

I checked into that web page for the Andre's crackers, and it seems to me that they are quite expensive on line. I have to check and see just what I paid at Albertsons. I just wanted them, and didn't pay much attention. But the stuffed mushrooms were very good. So they did serve the purpose. Lizzie

Deets 09-21-2003 09:55 PM

I found a salad dressing that is pretty good. It's made by Walden Farms...and it is SF...0 Carbs....3 gr. fat....2 TB. =40 cal.\
It comes in several kinds. We've tried Thousand Island, and Balsamic Vinigrette. Very good. I believe they also have a Blue Cheese. I found it in a local grocery, and WalMart. If you don't find it....ask. WalMart is pretty good about stocking a request.

I AM LOOKING FOR FROZEN TREATS, AND ESPECIALLY SOFT DRINKS, WITH ONLY SACCHARINE IN THEM. ANY IDEAS? TAB AND FRESCA HAVE BOTH SACCHARINE AND ASPARTAME COMBINED. ARRGGGHH :(

Snoozin 09-28-2003 01:50 PM

2 great new finds!

Low carb whole wheat tortillas from La Tortilla Factory;
1 tortilla has:
50 calories
2 grams fat
8 gram fiber
0 sugar
3 grams carbs
5 grams protein
And they taste really good. I warmed one up and rolled it up with very lean roast beef from the deli and a slice of lower-fat pepper jack cheese, lettuce and tomato and I really enjoyed!

I found them at the grocery store in the health food department.
www.latortillafactory.com

Natural Ovens Lo-Carb Bread

RuthXXX I am asking you this question because you too are from Canada, when Snoozin mentioned a roll of canadian bacon what is she refering to? I don't know of any bacon here in Canada that comes on a roll!!!!! Sorry Snoozin for not asking you this but where you are in the US I wasn't sure if you would be sure of what our bacon looks like that we buy in the grocery store so I wasn't sure you could answer this. I know here in NS when I buy bacon it comes in a flat 1 lb package sliced about 12" long by 2" wide. Just trying to gather as much info on all that I am allowed with before starting this diet.
thanks,
Mary

Ruthxxx 10-24-2003 11:26 AM

Sorry I didn't spot this earlier.
Canadian bacon is really just peameal bacon. In the USA it comes in a roll like a small ham but around these parts it is just sliced or sold whole to slice yourself. It is pork loin that has been brined and coated with cornmeal. Good stuff and OK on SBD!

oncemore 10-24-2003 03:51 PM

Thanks RuthXXX,
I may be new here but I knew I could count on you once again. It is funny but this afternoon I was trying to figure it out and I remembered my dad eating that stuff all the time when I was a child and I wondered if perhaps that was what everyone refers to as Canadian bacon.
Mary

mauvaisroux 11-04-2003 09:34 PM

You can get a big roll of Canadian/Pea meal bacon at Costco for around $10.00. I cut mine into 3 peices and freeze two for later.
I peice usually covers the week for me. :)

NO Nutrasweet

I am allergic to nutrasweet/aspertame-- but I can have Splenda :cb:
But..... doesn't TAB still have sacchrine?? Check it out--- I was
also thinking Fresca did too!

I LOVE the Diet Rite with Splenda. I buy it on base 12 cans for only 2.88. I like it better then the sugared sodas and cant stand the taste of Nutrasweet. It leaves an awful after taste in my mouth.

Jennifer 3FC 01-24-2004 01:09 PM

For those of you with allergies to sweeteners, maybe you would do ok with Somersweet? It is Suzanne Somers sweetener. You can buy it on her site, or at Homeshopping Network.

Also, you can check out a health food store that might have products sweetened with Stevia only.

My latest find is Z Carb candy bars. I bought them at Walgreens in the US. No sugar alcohols, and they have dark chocolate bars that taste just like plain old dark chocolate bars. However, they are sweetened with erythritol, which is an 'ol' sweetener, but it claims to not have any gastro effects. Not sure if this is SBD legal or not - any ideas?

lessismore 02-01-2004 05:41 PM

Hi
I have a couple foods I love that are SBD friendly.

1. Morningstar Farms meat substitute crumble - its like frozen scrambled hamburger and you can add it to chili, ls tomato sauces or anything that calls for scrambled meat.

2. Morningstar Farms Veggie Sausage links - yummy with those eggs or egg substitute

You could probably find this products made by other brands that are just as good. I live in the NE US and found them at Hannaford stores & Shaws.

Great Web-Site for FLAVORINGS & EXTRACTS

Hello fellow Beach Combers :)

I just thought I would share this web-site with you...
I myself have really enjoyed the Chocolate Extract in my Ricotta Cheese Dessert! :hun: Yum! The prices are very reasonable and you use very little flavoring/extract, so a bottle goes a long way.
Enjoy!

Recently found www.alacarb.com. Lots of low carb/sf food items not readily available at any of the stores I shop at (yes, yes, I know SBD is not low-carb, but that's how everything gets categorized these days ;-). Plan to buy some ketchup and bbq sauce as mine that I've made haven't turned out well. they also have sf flavored syrups and fudge sauces, jams, preserves and jellies.

chilichick 03-10-2004 05:49 AM

I have found these delish biscotti from The Smarter Carb. They have 1 net gram carb for the chocolate covered ones and 0 net carbs for the other flavor. they are small, but are so tasty and only 60 cals per serving. It is a nice snack with a cup of coffee or tea.

kpw 03-11-2004 12:24 AM

Diet Rite soda - Peach or Raspberry - made with splenda - and on Phase I, really helped to curb my fruit craving.

dynagrrl 04-02-2004 09:14 AM

I have found (in Canada):

Orowheat (sp?) Carb Counting Multi-Grain bread...6 net grams of carb per slice and it's goooooooooooooood

Ross Dark Chocolate candy bars (has sugar alcohol but only 1net carb per)

President's Choice Just Peanuts Peanut Butter totally rocks

Atkins Blueberry Muffin mix -- frankenfood but whatever

Starbucks Crustless Cheesecake -- 2.2net carbs, no sugar, no gluten or something.

That's it so far. If I think of anything else, I will pass it on.

Kayzan 04-06-2004 10:08 AM

Yum Yum

I've always loved Snack Wells cookies, and now they're making Sugar Free varities. I've tried the Oatmeal cookies and the Fudge Brownies. Both were very good and got me past some serious snack cravings without being to bad. And since they're from Snack Wells, you don't get the high fat content that is common in "low carb" products. The kinds I bought were 90 calories a cookie and 2.5 - 3.5 total fat grams. They are fairly good sized cookies too. The hard part was stoping with just one!

*Note: I have heard that their Chocolate Chip cookies are pretty high in fat content, so check the labels.

Ruthxxx 04-06-2004 10:12 AM

Particularly check for trans-fats. Trans fat is WORSE than saturated fat. Also be aware that some low carb products are higher in calories than regular, as well as more expensive.

Kayzan 04-10-2004 02:35 PM

I just had some Buckwheat pankakes for breakfast, and they were wonderful! I bought "Bob's Red Mill Old Fashioned, Stone Ground Buckwheat Pancake & Waffle Mix". Long name, but well worth it:-) A friend recomended these to me, and I'm so glad I listened. She says her kids love them and think that they're chocolate becuase they're brown. 18 grams of fats, but only 2 Saturated grams and no Trans fats. 4 grams of fiber and 8 grams of Protein. I did add a little Splenda, but I'm not sure that it really needed it.

beachgal 04-29-2004 12:59 AM

I just read in my newest Redbook that cinnamon (1/2 tsp a day) can help you avoid Type II (Adult onset) Diabetes! Can't hurt...personally, I love cinnamon!

Crystal Light Sunrise flavor - Is my favorite new product. It's almost like drinking orange juice, as close as I can get to it on SB anyway! It has Vit. C and calcium too. I buy it at the regular grocery store, although they tend to sell out of it quite a bit. I had to go to 2 stores today to find it. I bought the last two they had on the shelf!

CatsPlay 05-23-2004 05:31 PM

I haven't opened the bag to taste it yet, but I found

Home Pride Bread 100% Whole Grain Sugar Free

at my Giant Eagle today.

kpw 06-12-2004 11:08 AM

Post Shredded Wheat 'n Bran is pretty darn tasty! Ingredients: Whole Grain Wheat and Wheat Bran (that's it!). 8g dietary fiber, 7 g protein. I love it with Stevia & berries in the morning for breakfast. I've also found it works well crushed and used as a crunchy topping or crust. I tried Uncle Sam's cereal and was annoyed at the flaxseeds getting stuck in my teeth and thought it tasted pretty much like cardboard :-)

lhendricks 06-15-2004 04:18 PM

Just to add a note on "Canadian bacon"...it is pork tenderloin that is cured. Completely different from regular bacon, it is very very lean. That's why it is acceptable on SBD.

Carb Down Flatbreads ($2.00 a package at WalMart, near the deli counter) are huge and make a great base for SBD acceptable pizza. The Canadian bacon makes a great topping, as does the Hormel turkey pepperoni. Pile on the veggies, s/f tomato sauce, herbs, and of course a little cheese. I now like it better than the real thing!
