I'd seriously recommend getting a new vet, a vet with any sense would have given antibotics to a cat with a history of ear infection who's having ear surgery... On top of messing up the first surgery, either your cat is the unluckiest cat alive or your vet has no idea what he's doing. Either way, glad that he's doing better
