Exclamation Hi newbie here! #2 is on the way!

Hi everbody! My name is Megan. I found out on Thanksgiving weekend that I am p/g - I'm about 9 weeks along. It has taken me almost 3 1/2 years to concive this child - me & my hubby are overjoyed. Ever since I've found out I was pregnant, I've cut out all the bad foods - no excessive sugar or soda, etc. I'm eating a lot of fruits/veggies and I get a good intake of protein and dairy. I've also started to walk - about 15-20 mins a day 3x's a week. I've lost about 15 lbs right before Thanksgiving. Has anybody else lost weight in the first trimester? I know I get enough calories cause I'm watching them close.

Congratulations!

Losing weight in the first trimester is fairly common, especially for those of us who are overweight. And that's doubly true if you're prone to morning sickness. I lost varying amounts of weight the first trimester during all three of my pregnancies. The first one, where I was the most overweight, I lost 33 pounds; this last one I lost only six. (I had hyperemesis gravida the first time too.)

Honestly, all the women in my family lose weight during the first trimester, even the skinny one. (Yeah, we've got one token skinny one. ) I think in part it's because we need so many calories to make a baby, and probably also there are issues like the tiredness and sickness that tend to come along then too. I might have never had any energy to exercise, but I never had any energy to eat either!

Also, since you said you're making an effort to eat better, I think it can be expected. When our bodies are fueled with good foods, we utilize calories so much better, it seems. Sort of how breastfed babies get hungrier quicker than their formula-fed counterparts--their bodies are just able to burn up the calories better.

Congratulations again! That must have been a great extra thing to be thankful for!

Congratulations! That is wonderful news after trying for so long!

When I got pregnant, I threw all restraint out the window and gained 15 pounds in my first trimester - hence my 60 pound total weight gain for the pregnancy...sigh. Maybe I'm a good example of what not to do.
You are definitely on the right track in creating healthy habits right from the start

Welcome! Congratulations on your pregnancy!! One thing I learned from this board is that each woman/pg is different. As long as you're eating well, don't worry about the weight. Good job on the exercise too! I stopped during my pg
