Default BF & SBD?

I cant seem to find the search button, so please, excuse me if this has been asked. Or, direct me to the link and I'll read that, but is the SBD considered safe for bf mama's? From what I know of it, it seems a healthier alternative to Atkins, which I tried between my dd and ds. The only thing it did for me was give me horrible mood swings for 6 months and make me depressed and angry alot, turns out it cause a bit of a chemical imbalance for some reason? As soon as I quit Atkins, I was normal within 2 weeks. Thanks in advance.

Phase II of South Beach Diet is considered safe for breast-feeding mothers but check with your physician first.

(The search button is part of the purple bar at the top of this screen.)

I've never been on SB while BFing but I'd have to say I agree with Ruthxxx, phase 2 & 3 should be fine. I only tried Atkins once and felt like crap the whole time, too. I know it works for some people, but personally I prefer SB.

Another vote for safe. There's nothing at all controversial in the diet. The recommendations of eating complex carbohydrates & lean proteins are 100% in line with what any nutritionist will tell you to do. Just don't try to follow the menus in the book (this is IMO); there's not nearly enough there.

I was planning on doing the SBD when this baby decides to come out. Thanks for the info - I want to BF and it's good to know that the SBD won't interfere with milk production...

Just be sure you eat enough! I can't overemphasize that. Especially in the first six weeks, when your milk supply is getting established, don't restrict calories. It's a good time to practice eating until you're just full and not any more. You might be surprised how hungry you get!

You probably won't. Just keep in mind right now that it takes a lot to create an entire new person.

for me anyways, the first 2 months of bf I was the hungriest, and that includes during pregnancy, its like my body suddenly thought I was going to starve to death. But to be fair to my body, I was recovering from a csection, I had an infected incision line requiring rehospitalization, 20 days of pumping and dumping due to meds, THEn reestablishing latch issues etc...my body was probably confused and reverted to survival mode. eat anything and everything you can and store all food....arghhhhhhh now i have to lose even more. I can say though, it has finally levelled off, once milk supply was well established and a routine has been laid down, except during growth spurts, i'm generally ready for a snack when he is.
