Question Has anyone had elevated sugar levels postpartum?

Hi everyone,

I just went into my OB today for my checkup, she said my blood sugar levels were elevated after I delivered my son.. I now have to go in for a 2 hour blood test. I'm just wondering if any of you had that and if you've been diagnosed with diabetes (or the start of it). I was only 23 weeks along and my son was born still due to a umbilical cord accident so I'm concerned that I may have started to get diabetes during that time.

I'm pretty worried, I'm eating better now but diabetes runs in my family on both sides. She said as long as I keep losing weigh it shouldnt be a problem and my sugar level should be fine.

Hopefully you guys can give me more info on it.

Amanda

Hi Amanda, I'm soo sorry for your loss. (((HUGS)))

I did not have any problems with my sugar levels during or after PG. My mom is a Certified Diabetes Educator and I just happened to be on the phone with her while reading your post. I asked her if she had heard of that, and if it's common. She said not really, but that it sounds more like you're probably developing diabetes. Now, I'm just telling you that, but obviously she's only going by what I told her, which is only what I read in your post, so I don't know how accurate that statement is.

The first step definitely would be to get your diet under control and really watch what you're eating. Maybe do a search online for diabetic diets. Actually, I"m sure your family will be a support to you, since it runs in the families.

Take care and keep us posted!
