Default Anyone had a "noise machine" for the crib

I have seen several types from ones that play CDs to ones that do nature sounds. Did anyone have one and was it worth it?

i've definitely registered for one..... I think it would be great to play lullabys or classical music to the baby...

We didn't with either kid, actually. For DD, she had a mobile in pastel colors that matched her bedding, and it played soft lullaby music. For DS, we bought a Symphony In Motion mobile and used the music box part for a while after he'd outgrown the mobile (he pulled it down on himself!). Now he has an Ocean Wonders aquarium, which plays several soft songs and also does wave sounds which he seems to like best. I really liked the Sympony In Motion mobile, and I love the aquarium. Fisher-price makes a little bird crib toy too that looks so neat. I've actually considered getting one for DS even though he already has the aquarium and is older, but I decided against it because he'll be out of his crib within a year or so anyway.

Crib?

I know once upon a time wind-up clocks used to be recommended. My younger daughter loved the Ocean Wonder swing, but I can't tell you if it was the noise/lights that lulled her to sleep or the rocking.

You made me laugh, MonsterMomma! We no longer have a crib. With my first (12 years ago!) we bought one, and it only held stuffed animals. We kept it for my second (10 years ago), he never used it either. We did not even bother to set it up for number 3 or number 4. I think we gave it away somewhere along the way. Who knows??

I had one for my first, I was going to set it up as a side-car to the bed, but I never got around to it. I'm eyeing an Arm's Reach Co-sleeper at the NEX right now, and my husband's reminding me very stridently about the crib fiasco.

Whatever works for you, of course. I know some people who've tried co-sleeping but couldn't relax enough with the baby in bed, and when I wake up in the middle of the night to find the youngest laying sideways with her feet propped up on my side I can understand not...

Inca's Momma, it sounds like maybe you'd get more use out of one that played CDs. You could use say an ocean sounds CD for a very small baby, and then he could use it for other CDs as a toddler. Don't know how well that would work out, but it's a thought.

Great Big Monster Momma, that made me laugh. My kids both coslept for the first 6 months or so. We stopped when it turned into co-"playing in the bed all night long because mom makes such a great climbing structure and this is fun!" instead of sleeping. DS still does every once in a while, which is nice. We still used cribs for naps though.

I bought a CD called "Hush A Baby". It's a white noise CD and I just put it on repeat at night. Does the job great!

I had a momma bear. It worked great with Lilly. William could've cared less about it. Of course he had reflux so bad that it was hard for him to sleep period. I put the bear in the bassinnette beside the bed until she outgrew it and then the bear went to the crib.

You want back ground noise? try my 5 year old!! LOL
We also use a aquarium (fisher price) Seriously - Elijah will not go to sleep until he is ready. He just needs to be rocked in his glider. At the age he is now - the best thing for him is Mom or Dad rocking him in a darkened room.

Just keep trying everything until it works. If it is relaxing to you - it will probably work. Because if you are relaxed the baby will have a better chance of relaxing himself. KWIM?

Dana

ps... don't be afraid to make noise when baby is napping. I vacuum all the time when he is sleeping.

No one keeps her naps like Linda keeps her naps. When we lived in Norfolk, she would nap while I took my exercise walk. One day she really did sleep right through a fire engine--with sirens wailing--driving within about three yards of us! (He hearing is fine, believe me after that I got it checked.)

Somehow, though, the smell of breastmilk rouses her...

I'm all prepared for the making noise stuff. I put a playpen right beside the TV! My mom said she tried to keep things quiet with my sister and she woke up at every noise then, but with me it was all about the noise so I slept better. We decided from the pregnancy test turning positive that we would not try to be quiet with him.
