~ Birth Story, of Kaydence Michelle ~
My doula and I , arrived at the hospital at 7:45pm for my 8:00pm on June 23rd, 2005. My hubby was to be there later, as he had to go to school.
I got settled into my room, and got ready for my first dose of gel at 9:30pm, I was fingertip dilated and still high in the cervics. They had me hooked to the monitors for 1 hour,
to watch Kayties heart beat and to see my contractions. I was having mild contractions and Kayties heartbeat was great, from what we could get of her since she
wouldn’t stay still!!!. I got another dose at 1:30am, I was 1 1/2 cn and still high in the cervics, I had asked for a sleeping pill. Gel again at 5:30, I was to 2 cn this time.
My midwife Sue came in on Friday morning to check on me, I was 2 plus cn but she couldn’t tell because my cervics were still high! We decide on no more, gel and just to see what my doula and I can do together to get this show on the road. I was doing great with breathing through my contractions, my doulas voice really was soothing and it helped me a lot.
At 12:00pm, my doula had me lay on my side with 3 pillows between my legs. At this time my contractions were really starting to bother me, but I was toughing it out. My contractions were coming at 2 minute apart and lasting about 60 seconds. I decide to walk around the birthing center, every step I took I had a contraction. I couldn’t make it very far, so I went back to the room. Decided to get into the whirlpool and that wasn’t cutting it at all!! I decide to ask for something to take the edge off of my pain, so I got nebuin <sp?> into my IV, AT 1:45PM. I was laying there still breathing through my contractions, as I could still feel ALL of the contractions. At 2:10pm, my water breaks and the show has now started. With every contraction, I had a gush of water. When my water broke, my contractions got 100% worse!!
I asked for a EPI, which I really wish I wouldn’t have. I was aiming for a natural birth, but once induced, it really isn’t natural anymore. So I wanted a drug free birth! The EPI people get there about 2:30pm. My contractions were causing me to bear down from the pain. They got the EPI put in and I got turned around on the bed. I looked at my nurse and said umm I need to PUSH! . I had to wait because well Joe wasn’t in the room!!!, the nurse had to go chase him down.
When Joe comes in he looks at me from the left side and sees NO hair, goes around on the other side of the midwife and sees hair. I pushed once to get Kayties head out and she just came out on her own. She was born at 3pm! 40 minutes from my water breaking. Oh, and my EPI wasn’t turned on. so I felt everything, but it didn’t hurt at all. It was more of a rush!, it was a amazing feeling to just feel her come out.
I didn’t tear, nor had any kind of damage from delivering her that fast. My placenta came out right away also.
She came out wanting to nurse, which is great because Debbie and I had a lot of problems with nursing. She also had a knot in her cord, but it was more of a slip knot. It would move up and down her cord.
She is perfect! 6lbs 13oz and 19 3/4 inches long. Her hair is a dark brown with light brown tips.
I'm happy about how the birth went, my doula and midwife said. I went as natural as I could when being induced, since I had NO pitocin and just a mild shot of nebuin.
Next time it will be 100% natural, since I figured once my contractions got as bad as they did. I was almost done!!
