Hi! I'm new, too! My son is 20 mos. and we're still happily BFing. We've an AP family and I loooove my slings.

Glad to see some like-minded mamas.

Thanks! I totally adore my Ergo too but it's not getting much use anymore. It's been a while since DD has wanted to be in it when we're out walking since you can't compete with a big brother while you're being carried!

I'm indulging in a nice German wrap for this upcoming babe. We don't need very much at all in the way of baby stuff so this will be a really nice treat. (Plus, I'll take any excuse I can get to buy carriers! :D)

I have two Didy's, well one is mine and one is on loan. :) We love wrapping too.

I'm wrapped challenged, always have been. I love my mei tais, though!

I have a DD who is 14 months. I am nursing in the morning and evenings and on weekends. She is still getting BM at daycare but I just recently stopped pumping. We will continue nursing until she wants to stop.

I'm BFing my son who's nearly 2 months. I was 171 pre-pregnancy, delivered at 192, and am about 159 now. I'm trying to lose but am keeping calories at appx 1800-2000 so I don't screw up my milk supply.

zeffryn 01-13-2009 12:07 PM

i bf'd my son until he was around 18 mos. when my milk supply dropped off due to pregnancy - i m/c and could not get my supply back.

i've been happily bf'ing our newest addition (2 weeks).

last night, i developed some very localized pain in my right breast. i cannot get my lc on the phone. blockage? early mastitis?

Any redness, tenderness, fever, lump, flu-like symptoms?

KimProbable 01-13-2009 04:46 PM

Maybe try nursing him in a different position (i.e. cross-cradle or football). It might help to drain different milk ducts if you've got a plugged duct going on.

HI! I am another EBF and attachment parenting mama :) will post more later!

2Tired 02-26-2009 10:39 AM

Hi! I'm new and am EBF'ing too. My baby is 3 months old and I was doing pretty well right after giving birth.... and actually, really well while pregnant. But now, I'm starting to really stress eat, and my weight loss has leveled off, in addition to just being tired.

I did confess in Introductions that I'm eating Chips Ahoy like crazy .... they are fast, easy and chocolate. And, when my other kids are making me crazy, I'm holding the baby because he won't go down, I can go into the cupboard with one hand and grab a cookie. The problem is I'm eating them like they were potato chips!

I need to find some way to be accountable for that.... even if I come here and put my tally for the day.... and I need to lose more weight, but in a responsible way. And, at this point, I do need support to do it. In the past I was always able to do it on my own, but I can't anymore. I'm just too stressed out.

On another subject, I noticed you guys were talking Ergo's and slings. I am really interested in an Ergo, but I can't figure out what holds the baby in.... just gravity? I've been hesitant to buy one since they are so expensive, but my baby is now 21 pounds and I've got to figure out something cause my arms are going to fall off. When you put the baby in the thing, does it sit into something? Or is it that there is more of a seat that the baby sits into and then they are just against you, with out any sort of something to hold the baby in besides your body?

edited to add: I forgot to add that I'm also dealing with a household with food allergies & lactose intolerance. So, having to kind of maneuver through that, and finding things to eat, that are safe, sometimes leaves choices very limited. And some of the convenience foods that I'd like to have on hand, I can't because of food allergies, and some of the convenience foods that we can have on hand for the kids are things I can't resist sometimes (like the chips ahoy!).

I think the baby just sits next to you in the Ergo.

The carrier I use is the Beco Butterfly and baby actually sits in a little insert. It's very comfortable, my 7.5 month old loves it, and it comes in super cute patterns. Totally worth the $$ if you ask me!

2Tired 02-27-2009 07:08 PM

What made you decide on the Beco carrier vs another one? I did look it up, btw, and I like the fabric patterns you can get. But, just curious what made you pick that one? I actually just heard of the Ergo recently, and didn't know there was anything else out there like it. I've still got the old baby bjorn from when my 9year old was a baby... and that is really not comfy with a big kid!

And, also, where does one hang out around here if your issues with eating are because of kid stresses (like not getting to eat anything because of holding a baby, and then finally when they go down you just want to eat whatever is in sight) and just needing support in general? I mean, this section doesn't seem to move... and for me, I'd like to figure out which area here would be more appropriate. I am feeling kind of lost here.

Any ideas?

I've been nursing one babe or the other for the last 4 1/2 years. My daughter is 14 months and still mostly prefers to nurse, though if her brother is eating it, its fair game. My son weaned at 3 1/2.

I have a hard time losing weight when nursing. With my son, I didn't start losing until he was over 2. Then I lost 40 pounds and got pregnant again :) With my daughter, I am trying to start earlier. Right now I am calorie counting (with a modest reduction), exercising with WATP at naptime and keeping my fluids up.

We are attachment parents here too - we co-sleep and love our carriers. I totally sympathize with 2tired who posted about chips a'hoy -- for me I tend to eat sandwiches or other foods that are easy to eat with one hand and end up gaining weight while nursing for my troubles.
