August Preggos
Ok - so I'm charging us all with pregnancy brain - it's August 5th & this hasn't been started yet!!! LOL
|
 Good point -- it is August! And I should know it's August because my baby should be here by now!
I'm getting nervous but also VERY excited about the birth. Chances are he'll wait until the induction Thursday, but he could surprise me today or tomorrow, which would be wonderful. I go in tomorrow for blood work and to answer a million questions to prepare for Thursday. Then I hope my husband and I can go out for a decent dinner. I'm thinking I should carbo-load or something, like I'm running a marathon the next day!! Sounds like everyone's working on their baby rooms these days. We waited pretty late -- in fact, we put the finishing touches on it today. We finished putting up the Winnie-the-Pooh border (I had to order more because we didn't have enough) and put up some WtP wall appliques. We didn't do too much with the room because we couldn't really afford it. My in-laws gave us a brand new crib (which we haven't put together yet!), we're using a really old dresser that has always been in that room, some friends gave us an old changing table (we weren't going to get one, and we still don't know how we'll fit this one in the room so it's not even in there yet), and a friend gave me a rocker/glider as my shower gift (which was lovely of her). We put up the border, a few stickers and wall hangings, a valance, and a matching hamper. It looks really cute, though. We didn't get the crib bedding set, because we thought that even though it's cute it was kind of pointless. You can't put anything in the crib with the baby anyway, and they say bumpers can be dangerous as well, so we didn't think we should spend $150 on useless bedding. A crib sheet and a swaddled baby -- that's all that will be in there! Some of you are talking about swelling. It's interesting -- I really didn't have that at all (except the one instance with my previously broken ankle). I'm wondering if it's because my body has already known what it's like to carry even more weight than this (and it carried it for a looooong time). I really didn't have the swelling and backaches that a lot of women get from carrying around pregnancy weight, even though I've gained more than most pregnant women do. I'm still not up to the 275 I used to weigh, so my body's like "bring it on -- I can handle it!" I brought too much on, though -- that's for sure!! I'll have lots of work to do post-partum to get rid of all this. I'm dreading trying to run, but I'm looking forward to it too. Hope you guys are doing well. I'll try to get back here to post about the birth as soon as I can! |
Good luck Lisa!!!!! Best wishes for the labor and birth. When you get a sec, let us know all about Henry.

Crib Woes
I thought I was going to pull my hair out by the roots yesterday. DH and I got a crib and changing table set from my parents that they used with their 2 youngest kids. It's been lent out twice but it's still in good shape... so we thought. We go to put the crib together yesterday and after an hour realize that there are 2 extremely vital pieces missing (the ones that hold the mattress up.) They never got the pieces back from the lady they last lent it to and, knowing her like I do, they will never be seen again. Rendering the crib completely useless.
There was one fantastic silver lining to all of this, something I can only see as a great blessing. After realizing that we really DON'T have a crib I got onto craigslist.org to see what I could find. Since the one where we live sucks I started looking where my SIL lives (and DH and I used to live)... she said she'd go pick one up for me and store it until we get up there if need be. So, I'm cruising for cribs and find a 3-in-1 convertible crib for $45, I couldn't believe it! Turns out they were really needing to make space and need to get rid of it ASAP, thus the extremely LOW price. So, I email the lady asking if it's still for sale (not holding my breath since it was such a great deal) and get an email back from a very good friend of mine saying "Did you mail me about my crib on Craigslist? You're not the first but you have seniority so it's yours if you want it!" I am so excited! There's nothing on the website to indicate a seller's identity, I just "happened" to pick out the one crib from hundreds that my friend was selling. What an incredible blessing! So, we're getting a convertible crib, which I've always wanted, for really cheap and I know who's had it and what kind of care has been taken with it. Our crib woe turned out to be a great thing! :D |
Gale - what a strange coincidence. I love things like that. I'm glad you found a crib you're happy with.
I'm SO frustrated with my sleep right now. I'm getting restless legs really bad at night. I've had this before but now it's escalated to the point that whenever I'm sitting or lying down I get these violent, jerks in my legs - so if I'm not quite asleep it wakes me up. I'm not a good sleeper to start with so disturbances to my sleep really throw me for a loop. I've literally been up the entire night 3 times in the last week. Last night I slept 10:30-12:00, woke up to pee & then was up until 7:00 this morning. UGH!!! I'm going to try to force myself to the gym this afternoon to hopefully help reset things. |
Lifeguard,
I'm sorry you're having such a hard time sleeping, that stinks. I find (and this may just be me) that my restless legs are worse when I'm not getting enough calcium. My Dr. put me on a supplement for leg cramps and it seemed to have taken care of the restlessness as well. Of course, you want to check with your Dr. since too much calcium can give you kidney stones, and that's the LAST thing you want during pregnancy. I hope you can get it figured out soon! So, I got all of my maternity clothes today and, miraculously, they all fit! I am pretty much starting to feel like a whale these days but I don't feel like I look pregnant. I feel like I just look fatter, but instead of a pear shape fat with a little waist (like I've always had) I'm an apple shaped fat with big hips! And, to boot, if my scale is to be believed I've gained 5 lbs in the last 3 weeks. :( I've not been very good at all with my eating, lots of french fries in my life the last month or so. I need to get back on track, SOON! I'm still 25 lbs from my high weight and I'd really, really like to stay under that. If I'm going to, I have to eat better and walk more. Otherwise I'm going to start gaining really fast. I must remember that even though I'm pg I STILL can't process 3000 calories per day. "It's not a license to eat whatever I want. It's not a license to eat whatever I want. It's not a license to eat whatever I want. It's not a license to eat whatever I want." Maybe if I repeat this to myself 5 times an hour I'll remember it. :) |
Lisa - good luck with everything, hope it all went well and that you'll be back soon to tell us all about it.
Gale - That 5 lbs could be fluid, I know I have gained a lot in the past few weeks and I am positive that my eating has not changed so it is definately fluid. I am so swollen everywhere, my hands, feet, legs, even my abdomen! Still you are right about the 3000 calories! Lifeguard - I've been having insomina too on and off for the past few weeks though not from restless legs. Definately the calcium could be a factor. Are you taking a prenatal vitamin and getting in 2-3 servings of milk or milk products daily? It might help. Saw my dr yesterday. She is a bit concerned about my blood pressure, it is up and all the swelling. She sent me for some blood work just to make sure this isn't the beginning of pre-eclampsia or toxemia. I might have to go in early if things get worse. Frankly that'd suit me fine, I'm done with this pregnancy. I have less than 3 weeks to go for my planned c-section and we are all certain the baby is big enough. She wants me to hang in there until at least I'm 37 weeks which will be another 9 days. It feels like it is going to be forever at this rate! The baby's room is almost done. Almost all the painting is done, it's just the carpet that needs to be fixed and the blinds and curtains to go up and of course the furniture moved in. Can hardly wait to get everything in there and organized, will give me a big pick me up. Take care all! |
I'm jealous you girls are so close!
I slept Thursday night pretty well & thought maybe I had fixed things but then didn't sleep last night. Then today I fell down the stairs. Somehow I managed to grab the banister & keep myself from landing hard but also managed to scrap the tops of my feet & my knees pretty badly. DH & I are both rather confused how I did that going down the stairs but my gawd does it hurt. Our stairs are very rough concrete & I look like I have road rash. It'll be nothing but flip flops for me for awhile now. |

This thread hasn't been too active the last few days -- I hope everyone's doing ok.
I had my little Henry Clay (the fourth) on Thursday at 5:31pm. He's 8 lb, 8 oz and 21 1/2 inches long. I'm madly in love with him and completely exhausted. He's healthy but he's having trouble pooping and he's crying a LOT and breastfeeding is very difficult (though my milk hasn't come in yet). I don't have a nursing bra that fits (advice: buy the most enormous one you can find, because nothing else will fit, and I'm not even engorged yet). Anyway, here he is! |
What a GORGEOUS baby, Lisa. Congratulations!!!
|
Congrats Lisa!!! He is wonderful, I don't blame you for loving him to bits. Nursing bras are an issue that I am having as well, trying to get prepared ahead of time but having trouble finding anything that fits. Stay with the breastfeeding if you can, I know it is rough but it can take up to 6 weeks to really get the hang of it. I know that isn't much consolation when your baby is crying non stop it seems. I gave up too quick with my first even though I pumped for 3 months. My husband was being no help at all, emotions were running high, I had no family or friends to support me so it was just easiest to start using the bottle and supplementing with formula. I'm going to give it more of a chance this time.
So how did everything else work out as far as being checked for progression etc? I know you were worried about that. As for me, we've got the baby's room pretty much done. I just have to finish off the curtains and rearrange the room a bit. Just little stuff. I'm wiped out though. It isn't even 10am and I feel done for the day. I did my back no good from all the painting and stuff I did last week and I'm not recovering well. Feel like I am taking tylenol all the time. Oh well not much longer to go. Hope everyone is doing well, keep on posting Lisa, we still want to know how you are doing!! |
Congrats - he looks soooo peaceful in the pictures! Beautiful! Will you be giving us the birth details when you feel up to it? I don't know a soul who found breastfeeding easy to start with but they all got it eventually.
One of the top things on my list for my trip home next week is nursing bras. I'm hoping if I go up one cup size from what I am now that will be ok? It's SO depressing how huge the girls are. Jen - it must be a relief to see your nursery coming together - it sounds like it's been so much work. I've been sick the last couple of days. My chest & belly hurt from coughing so much & I can't remember my breathing ever being so laboured - but it seems to be improving. My foot still hurts like heck from my fall on the weekend. It must be super bruised underneath the scabbing. But I went for GD test yesterday. I have my OB appt on Thursday so I'm hoping the test results are good - I've been dreading doing this. As I have PCOS my odds are a little higher for developing GD & just don't want to have to deal with it. |
:congratulations: Lisa!! He's absolutely gorgeous.
Keep on keeping on with the breastfeeding, it'll get there eventually. As for us, there's not a whole lot new going on. I did my GD test yesterday and should have the results back in a couple of days. The baby kept me awake for 3 hours last night kicking, so I'm fairly tired today. Fortunately the house is clean and there's not much I have to do today. |
Thanks, everyone! Things are getting better with breastfeeding. My milk came in (with a vengeance) but now I'm trying not to get lopsided since he favors one breast.
Lifeguard - you may need a bigger nursing bra than that. I was wearing DD when I was pregnant (single D when I lost all my weight) and I'm sitting here in an H. When my breasts are full with milk, the H is tight, and after he feeds it's loose. It's very hard to figure out what to wear. I can't go to a maternity store and get fitted for one now because I really can't leave the house yet (though I'm about to go take him for his pediatrician appointment). I haven't figured out the nursing in public thing and I haven't pumped bottles yet, nor do I want to at this point. So I ordered the H bra on the internet and I may have to order another because I've leaked all over this one and have to still wear it today (eek!) It's definitely a learning process... I'm still terribly sleep-deprived but I shouldn't complain because little Henry only got up three times last night, and two of those were to eat!! I was thrilled. Of course, one time I thought he was finished pooping and then it shot out of his little bottom all over my leg and foot!! |
OH - the whole idea of nursing bras depresses me. I'm wearing a VERY full DDD (or F depending on the sizes). And if I don't get the right ones when I'm in Canada next week I'm somewhat screwed as the selection here is terrible! We haven't tried doing anything mail order yet but I have my doubts - it takes a minimum of 4 weeks from when something is mailed to when it arrives here - sigh.
My cold is definitely getting better but every time I lie down I starting coughing & hacking. DH leaves today for Canada. I don't leave for another week. I'm not looking forward to a week here alone - but at least I have my OB appt tomorrow. Fingers crossed on my GD test! |
I'm also having nursing bra issues because I hate regular bras. I have worn sports bras forever. Try and find a nursing sport bra! Apparently they make them but I'm gonna have to order one over the internet. I take a B cup so hopefully it won't be too hard to find, I'll probably order a C just in case though I don't remember with my first that my breasts really got all that much bigger. Of course that was like 7 years ago and it is probably different every time especially if I get to breast feed rather than just pumping this time. Have to go to see my dr this afternoon because of my blood pressure and also the baby has not been kicking as much so I'm a bit worried about that.
|
Hey, folks! Quick check in here so I can get to bed! My, have I had a hard time sleeping the last few nights. When I finally get there, I wake up with such a full bladder that I am almost cramping and my entire side is numb. Even the ear I was laying on! Yikes!
Lisa- Congratulations on your little one! He looks so alert!! Hangin in there breastfeeding. I always found if I could down a glass of water before starting it was kinda like "priming the pump". I am sure you also weren't prepared for the soreness either. Some how I dont' remember it getting any better with each kid. I mean, it does after the first week if you are sore but I still had to start over with each one and get through that first 10 period again. Keep up the good work. Don't stress too much about it. It will all fall into place. Where can you go to get measured for a nursing bra? Motherhood? will they do it. I have gained so much that none of my bras are fitting. My nursing bras were 38C and that was with my milk in! Currently, I am in a good fitting 40D, and I am not sure where to go from there... :) I am just 31 weeks and am not sure if this is because it is a girl baby or what?? Getting ready to send my older 2 boys off to school right after labor day so trying my best to get them settled in a routine before I pick up the pace with getting the house and room ready for baby! It is so hard not to blow so much money on layette! Everything is so cute!!:queen: |
Thought I'd just pop in and say hello. :) Just recently found out I'm a little over a month pregnant and expecting around April of next year:bb:
|
Congrats & Welcome Pixiefalls!!!
I just got back from the OB. Baby is looking good, weight is normal, size of everything looks good & he's head down - woohoo. I was really kind of convinced he wasn't 'cause I feel most of the movement in my lower regions & figured that must be his feet. Guess he uses his head as a battering ram. But, I failed the 1-hr GD screening test miserably. I have to go Saturday (everything's closed here tomorrow for Costa Rican Mother's Day) to do the 3-hr test & then everything's going to be a big rush as I leave for home on Wednesday. What a PIA! I'm SO upset about this. Plus DH left yesterday for home & our phone is not working (again) so I feel pretty alone with all this. |
Welcome pixiefalls!
Lifeguard - sorry to hear about the GD test. Hopefully it will just be a matter of watching your diet and maybe some oral meds. That's all I've had to do and it hasn't been a big deal. Not much new with me, just counting the days until my planned c-section (11). My blood pressure has been creeping up but I've had bloodwork and another ultrasound and everything is fine with the baby. I think it is just all the fluid I am retaining because I am so swollen everywhere except I think my upper body, oh my hands are swollen and numbish half the time which gets very annoying. Definately looking forward to losing all this extra fluid afterwards! |
11 days - that is so exciting. A long time though when you're uncomfortable - lol!
I am hoping that I got a falsely high result because of some of the things going on with me at the time. I was really sick, hadn't been eating or sleeping much & have been a little more stressed then usual lately. I didn't know these things could affect blood sugar. Anyway, today I focus on having a good, healthy day & then do the 3 hour tomorrow & hopefully I can manage to pass it or at least not totally bomb it. |
Hi all....
I know they say that some of the tiredness goes away after your first trimester, but I am a little over 16 weeks and still so very exhausted. I feel like all I want to do is rest. I don't remember being this tired with my first two, but it has been 8 years since my last one and I ain't no youngin anymore. Pixie - congrats on your exciting news! Lisa - baby Henry is perfect, such a handsome boy...I can't wait until mine gets here. Great job not giving up with the breast feeding. I nursed both my kids for 10 months and you are doing a great thing for you and him. I had flat nipples and it was hard for them to latch on at first, but they learn very quickly that is where their food comes from and it is an amazing and natural thing for them to just know what to do. Lifegaurd - good luck on your GD test. I failed my 1 hour with my daughter and had to do the 3 hour and it came out just fine...I will keep my fingers crossed for you and I hope you get to feeling better. I am off to rest again...everyone have a great weekend! |
Welcome pixiefalls and many congratulations on your pregnancy!
Lifeguard - I hope all goes well with your 3 hour GD test, and that the 1 hour was just a fluke. I know that stress and lack of sleep can do some really bizarre things to our bodies. Lisa - I'm glad to hear that the nursing is going well, I'm so happy for you and Henry and honestly... it gives me hope. To be frank, I'm way more afraid of nursing than I am of giving birth. I really don't want to screw it up. Jen - How awesome to be so close! Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as the big day draws near. Lovinlife - I have been pretty tired through my pregnancy, too. As of tomorrow I'll be in my 3rd trimester and I'm still taking naps 4-6 days per week. I think it's just different for everyone, fortunately or unfortunately there's no one point where we all become the same in our experiences. My Dr. called with my GD test results today and I passed - sigh of relief. She also told me that she knows I'm worried about my weight gain (actually, she said "What woman isn't??") and really not to worry that I'm in a completely healthy range - another sigh of relief. As of my last appointment, 24 weeks, I've gained 12 lbs. It means I'm obviously going to go over my secret wish of 15 lbs, but I should stay under 30 lbs. DH and I have stopped eating out, mostly for financial reasons but partly because of my addiction to fried food. I never fry anything at home, so that will cut down drastically the number of calories I'm consuming, hopefully helping the weight even more. Although the truckload of chocolate I ate tonight probably didn't. :o It seems that my nesting instinct has finally kicked in. A little late, maybe, but it's here nonetheless. I've been cleaning out and organizing cupboards and closets like crazy, just HAVING to get it done. I should buy stock in Rubbermaid for all of the bins and containers I've purchased recently. I also spent nearly an hour with a pumice stone cleaning my toilet the other day. That's really unusual for me - I HATE cleaning the bathroom and it doesn't get done more often than it does. I must say, though, that right now my toilet is beautiful and sparkly with nary a ring to be found. ;) I hope everyone has a good weekend and that Lifeguard has safe travels to Canada! |
Thanks everyone for such a warm welcome. :)
LOL gale:cool: |
Did the 3 hour test this morning. Thought I was going to pass out 20 minutes in I was so dizzy & lightheaded but then she had me lie down for a little bit & that passed. Long morning but it's done & now I'll just keep my fingers crossed until Monday when I will get my results.
|
Lifeguard you'll be in my prayers. Hope the test results come out good!
|
Lifeguard - hears hoping for good news tomorrow with your GD test!
Gale - I have totally given up on my weight gain goal, it just doesn't make sense to drive myself bonkers over something I have limited control over. Yes I can control what I eat and drink but I can't control my body from retaining everything and the weight piles on. I gained like 6 lbs in 1 week and it is all fluid, even my doctor agrees with me on that. So far I have gained less with this one than with my first pregnancy and I lost all that weight within 3 weeks after delivery so I am pretty sure this will be the same. I don't think I have gained any personal weight, it is all baby and extra fluid. I don't use my scale at home anymore and I don't pay too much attention when they weigh me at the doctor's after I saw that 6 lbs weight gain and knew it was fluid retention. I'm going to weigh myself at home the morning I go in for my c-section and when I get home and then I"ll get serious about the post partum weight. Had some Braxton Hicks contractions last night which was interesting because I don't remember having any with my first pregnancy. At first I thought the baby was just doing a rumba in there but then it didn't feel the same as baby moving after awhile. I also had the best sleep last night, I was so rested this morning I almost cried I was so happy. Of course I had to drug myself up for it! :) I had migraines all day yesterday so I had taken some Tylenol 3 at bedtime and then woke up a little later feeling so sick to my stomach that I took a Gravol so between those I was zonked and barely woke up all night. Not that I can do that every night but it would be nice to get some good sleeps in before the baby comes and I am up every 3-4 hours for the next few months! |
Thanks for the support! I did the test yesterday. I had a brief period where I felt like heck - dizzy & lightheaded but that passed & the rest of the time went quicker than expected. I brought some crochetting along & that helped pass the time. She had me give urine samples with each blood test too & my crazy bladder (that is always ready to go lately) froze up!!! LOL
Gale - I hear you on accepting the weight gain is not what you hoped for. I'm quite a bit more than I had hoped I would be & it always seems to pile on in 5lb chunks. Nothing for a few weeks & then bam! |
Hey ladies - I'm a lurker on here for now, as I'm TTC but wanted to tell Lisa that I just saw her pics. Henry is so cute! Congrats :)
|
Got the results today. I have GD. I am not a happy camper. I'm very ready to have this baby & move on.
|
Hey...I'm going to mostly lurk here but thought I'd say hi. I'm not pregnant and hope never to be again (would love to adopt as it is just the pregnancy I hate...babies are fantastic). I was training to be a Doula though when I decided I'd rather be in charge of my own schedule than have a stranger's baby be. So now...I'm mostly a maternity and infant photographer which is great. I get my baby fix seeing and usually getting to hold brand new little people for a bit while mommy is changing or whatever...and yet, I don't have to be pregnant. It is a win win situation for me. :D
Anyway, just thought I'd chime in about nursing bras. I nursed for a total of 5 years (2 kids) and never used a nursing bra after about a week with the first. I just got either sport bras that weren't too tight so I could haul them up and nurse that way. Or, I'd get ones that had stretchy cups so I could stretch it off to the side and nurse that way. It was much easier and much cheaper than trying to find nursing bras in my size. I found fumbling with the snaps or hook and eye things with one hand while holding a squirmy infant in the other was too difficult to bother with. |
Lifeguard - sorry to hear about your test results. Have they decided what kind of treatment they are going to try? I know it seems like a big deal at first but I didn't find that it has been all that bad. I had to spend a few weeks taking my sugar 4 times a day and that was a bit annoying and I spent a week food journalling. I saw the dietician twice and talked with her once on the phone. Luckily my sugars are being controlled really well with Metformin so I don't need to do my sugar every day, I do it like 3-4 times a week. Hopefully you won't have any more difficult issues than something like this.
Day from heck yesterday. Aggravation after aggravation. Won't go into a lot of detail but it was just one of those days where everyone around you is genuinely being an idiot. Not one of those days where you feel like you are just imagining it, definately it was happening. My car got hit in the parking lot at WalMart, no damage to either car but it was definately the other guys fault and he didn't even have the decency to apologize for backing into me. That was the tip of the iceberg so you can imagine what the rest of the day was like. Anyways I have one week to go, this time next week I'll be in the middle of my c-section and I can't wait. I'm having braxton hicks contractions, have had a few really painful ones. One was so sharp yesterday I was almost thinking I was going into labour. |
Lifeguard - I'm sorry to hear about the GD, that's really a drag. I hope you can get it controlled with the least amount of headache possible.
Jen - It sounds like you had a doozy of a day, what a drag. I hope today has gone better and without the idiots! I completely know what you're talking about, sometimes I think I must have a "stupid people" magnet stuck on my forehead. For me, it's mostly people driving. They must look in their rearview mirror and see a sign atop my car that says "Please go 15mph UNDER the speed limit - it makes me happy!" Grrrrrr... Yay, one more week to go... I'm so excited for you! I hope those BH contractions let up for you, at least to where they're not so painful. |
The discussion came up in the July thread and got me thinking about cloth vs. disposable diapers. You all gave me a lot to think about and DH and I have decided to go with cloth diapers. We're "investing" in the Fuzzi Bunz diapers, it looks like an awesome system. One question I have for those of you that have kids already - how many diapers does a baby go through per day? We want to buy diapers but have no idea how many we need. Somewhere in my brain I had 6-8 diapers plus 2 extra per day, so that'd be 20 for us since I don't want to have to commit myself to daily laundry (I can commit to every other day). Does 10 per day sound about right, like it'll be enough? Of course, if I get 20 and he happens to go through 12 in a day for some reason it's not like I can't do laundry that day, of course. But if it's a consistent 12 I'd like to get 24-28, kwim?
And for those of you that have used cloth - did you find that you caught a lot of flak for that decision? I wonder about things like other people babysitting and such, although I don't think it's any harder to change a fuzzi bunz than it is to change a disposable. I think my family in particular may look at me a little sideways since I'll be the first since my grandma to use cloth. Don't get me wrong, they aren't going to change my mind. This is DH's and my decision and it's made, I'm just curious if I should expect to get a hard time for it. |
Well I found out today... I'm pregnant! I found out REALLY early though. Because of a medical condition, I needed to get the blood test (way before I missed a period) in order to go off medication ASAP. Actually I was tested Tuesday and the result was "borderline" so I acted as if it was positive and went right off my meds. Went and got tested again yesterday and this morning got the positive result. So I'm only 4 weeks right now... a lot of weeks to go! So far I've only noticed some bloating, a larger chest, and lots and lots of burping. :)
|
Congratulations, Modkttn!!!:carrot::hug::dancer:! It is always so exciting to hear a new little one is on the way! Drink your water! Rest! and Eat! :) :)
As for me, I am really excited that I have made it this far without any contractions or complications! I have only been working about a shift a week and this week census was soo low they didn't need me. God is definately looking out for me because I was nervous about going in and walking the halls constantly. Backpain and sciatica have now intensified..both hips are involved. I finally still feel them numb now even in my sleep! Gearing up for the final two weeks of summer before my oldest starts full day kindergarten and the middle son has 3 weeks before he goes to am preschool. The official "Term" day countdown has begun! A little under a month left!! |
:congrat:
Congratulations Modkitten!! Enjoy every minute, it goes by so fast. I also found out very early on (about 3 weeks), and I thought it was fun knowing. Like almsthere said, drink, eat and rest rest rest! |
Honestly I don't feel any different except that I'm burping a lot and peeing more often. I know that will change though! :)
I have a question for all of you. I read about what I should be eating during pregnancy and how I only need an extra 300 calories a day. But honestly, how do I get in everything I am supposed to with only the 300 extra calories? Especially with all the calcium I need. That is going to be a hard one! Any recommendations? |
ModKitten,
Calcium supplements are awesome. I have been taking the Viactiv ones and you get 500mg of calcium for 20 calories. Talk to your Dr, of course, but that's what's been working for me. Oh, and make sure you get more fiber than normal if you're taking calcium, it causes constipation. Sorry if that's TMI, but it's what it is. Also, if you take calcium at night, it will help you sleep... bonus! Also talk to your Dr about this, but I found that when I got to about 6 weeks my prenatals made me SICK, really sick. My Dr told me to buy the Flinstones Complete vitamins (in the purple bottle) and take 2 of those instead. I compared the ingredient lists and they are identical except that the prenatals just have twice as much of everything (which is why I take 2 Flinstones vitamins.) They were so much better I'm still taking them instead of my prenatals. Chewable, they taste better, and I don't have to choke down a horse pill every day. I also wanted to recommend you start a journal for your baby. I bought "The Belly Book" on amazon for about $10 and it is so much fun. I didn't get it until I was about 12 weeks, but I remembered most of my first tri. It's a weekly journal with questions and places for notes and what's going on in your life in addition to the milestones (first kick, ultrasounds, etc.) Very, very fun! ETA: On the burping thing, I highly recommend Gas-X. It's the only thing that relieved that for me. |
Yep...what Gale02 said. Take calcium supplements. If you can't stand the viactive type...which I couldn't for long...I think they now have gummi bear type for kids. You'd have to take a heck of a lot of them probably, I haven't checked. I just did the swallowed pill type.
Calcium while pregnant is VERY VERY VERY important. If you don't take enough calcium for the baby...it will be taken from your bones to provide for the baby. You don't want to be getting osteoporosis early because you didn't take care of yourself while pregnant. |
