Default Anyone else with GD?

hello, I'm 28 weeks pregnant and have gestational diabetes. Is there anyone else in the same boat out there? I started this pregnancy around 164 (I'm around 5 feet tall) and I think I weigh 165 now (I lost quite a bit the first 3 mo and now I'm on that GD diet so I haven't been gaining that much weight). I have to take 10 units of insulin before bed and check my blood sugar 4X a day. It's getting exhausting and I don't know how I will make it 3 more months . I'm pretty bummed about all this because I didn't have it with my first baby and now I won't be able to have my homebirth like I had planned. Well at least now I will be motivated to lose the weight after the baby is born so I don't get type 2 for real-- Anyway just looking for some friends and also for some snack ideas since I seem to be eating the same thing everyday.

I had GD with both my babies (now 4 yo and 9 months). Don't worry, it gets to be a habit - the shots and the checking your blood sugar. If you keep your sugar controlled, there should be no affect on the baby, so that's great motivation.
My doctor was really big on protein, so I snacked on a lot of string cheese (the Kraft Twisters are my favorite), 2% cheddar, hard boiled eggs, PB on toast and that sort of thing. I found if I always combined my carbs with protein, my sugar wouldn't go up so high.
Congrats on your pregnancy - do you know if it's a girl or boy?

I also had gd with my three kids, but they didn't catch it with my first child-as I tend to go into it AFTER the standard time that they test for it. (20ish weeks...)

I was never on insulin shots, though-I just controlled it with testing my blood sugar, diet, and exercise.

thanks! We're hoping to keep this one a surprise, if the ultrasound techs can keep it to themselves. I feel like this is the last thing under my own control! It's good to know people actually survive this and come out with a baby in the end. It's hard to think past tomorrow or the endless doctor visits.

Hee hee, replying to my own thread. Well I got the baby out 5 weeks ago and I'm down 24 pounds to 144. I'm no longer in the "obese" category. Maybe there is hope for me yet. I want to lose 10 more pounds and hopefully when I go in for the postpartum diabetes test I will pass and not be considered "pre-diabetic".

Way to go with the weight loss!

I was termed GD with my second, but really it was gestational hypoglycemia. I had no problems keeping my blood sugar down, it was keeping it up I had to worry about. The midwife I was seeing (before I fired my high risk OB she worked with when I was 36 weeks pregnant) told me flat out that I would have regular diabetes within 2 years. Well, I don't, and don't plan to. I don't think it is a death knoll having had it while pregnant. Just eat right, get the weight off (I lost all my baby weight in 3 days because I also had hypertension and it was ALL water...I'm abnormal ) and you aren't guaranteed you'll get it in the future.
