  • Honestly, I don't think that it makes a difference.

Our bodies are going to have small fluctuations at all times, that have nothing to do with fat loss. Things such as nursing, how much water we have taken in recently, food/drink in our digestive tracts, bathroom visits, retaining water from too much sodium or due to our menstrual cycles-there is always going to be some scale fluctuations.

I don't think that it really matters whether or not you are 1/2 a pound lighter before or after a nursing-because it has nothing to do with actual weight loss or fat loss. It is a natural fluctuation, just like anything else.

The thing to watch for, is whether the general trend in the numbers is going down over the course of a longer period of time. Rather than going by the daily numbers-where you might be up .5 of a pound one day, a pound down the next, and so on and so forth-pay attention to the numbers over the course of the month. If the number at the end of the month is a few pounds lighter than at the beginning of the month, then things are headed in the right direction.
  • Hey there ladies....been a long time since I've been on....no computer...however I am computified and happy to be back. I have not lost an ounce since September and I need to get myself in fit mom mode. I started walking/jogging on the tread mill again...its been almost a week now Now I just have to get the nursing appetite under control again!
any suggestions on how to curb that snacky feeling?
  • While nursing, I always get really hungry mid-afternoon. I used to start snacking on all sorts of junk. Now, I have one piece of whole wheat toast with (Simply Jif) peanut butter. That keeps me satisfied until dinner.
  • Glad to see you back Minnie! I agree - protein really helps tide me over. Other than that - water, tea and sugarfree gum helps me the most.
I made 9 months! Wooohoooo. We go through 1 small can of formula every 2-3 weeks, so DD is probably close to 90% mother's milk. With my son I stressed so much about him being 100% MM that I quit at 6 months. I think this way has worked better for us. Tomorrow's her well-baby visit so we'll see how big she is then.
I can't believe my baby is so close to a year already! Yikes!
  • thanks....I think maybe I'll try adding a hard boiled egg in the afternoons. Anyone know how many calories are in a hard boiled egg?
snowing to beat the band here this morning. we are supposed to get up to 5 inches, but I dont mind....because I know it will be melted in a week.
    good luck everyone
    Minnie
  • A hard boiled egg would be the same as any other egg. It is going to depend on the size (medium, large, etc.) but it should say on the egg carton.

If my memory serves correctly, a large egg is 70 calories.
  • A hard boiled egg is between 75 and 80 calories. I always go by 80 calories so I don't go over my caloric intake.
  • My egg carton says that one egg is 70 calories. If I want a quick snack, I usually just eat the white - 35 calories I think, plus it has all the protein.

I *always* weigh after I nurse and pee. Isn't that funny? I actually weighed one day before I peed and nursed and then after, and I "lost" 1.5 pounds between peeing and nursing! Isn't that crazy?

  • Hi there! I'm new to the group, but not to nursing! My oldest B nursed past age 2 (weaned during my second trimester with my "baby"). My 16 month old baby J is still nursing - I'd love to get some mommy led night weaning happening, but it'll probably have to wait until summer break when DH can go on baby duty! Looking forward to "meeting" you all!
  • just saying hey....havent posted over here in a long time. Nursing still. Not that I am planning on weaning anytime soon, but I can already tell that weaning ds is going to be a challenge compared to dd. She weaned herself slowly dropping one feeding at a time from one year to 18 months and just keeping the one feeding until 22 months. But then she never soothed at the breast--she only wanted to nurse when hungry, even as an infant. He is 17 months and still nurses 5 times ...unless I am really distracted and then I will suddenly notice that he is latched on at random times....dang!

When my son was little weighing before/after nursing made a HUGE difference...especially if I got that 2nd morning feed in before weighing. But now that he is older, he doesnt eat as much.
  • Hi ennay - I thought of you the other day when trying to teach my 9 month old the sign for "milk". I remember you and a couple other posters used "ennay" as the word for nursing - if I remember correctly.
I am dropping my pump sessions the 3x a week I go up to work, but I think DD will nurse a long time. She also uses it to soothe herself. It's ok with me, esp since she's my last baby.

No, its just my long time screenname (since waaaaay before kids!), but I think another poster used it as the word for nursing which I found hilarious.

BAH ,my son has no interest in signs or talking. he understands everything, he is just stubborn.
  • It's me! My oldest started calling nursing "ennay" when he was nearly one, and it just stuck. Now it's our code word. Comes in handy, as my current nursling is nearing two and it would be slightly embarassing for her to shout out at church (which she TOTALLY would do!) "Mama! Boobies peeeze!"

She would say "peeeeze"? WOW. My son...if he talked would probably just say "BOOBY BOOOBY BOOOOOOOBY BOOOOOOOOOOOOBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBYYYY YYYYYYYYYYYY"
  • LOL You guys crack me up! I can't wait to see what Kate has to say about it!
