Hello!

My first post! I am also 27, and I have PCOS. I just started my diet yesterday and have 100 pounds that I would like to get rid of. My hubby & I have been TTC for 6 years and just found out it won't happen for us unless we do IVF. I would like to loose most of the weight before spending the $11,000 to hopefully help my success rate. Anyway, I would be interested in a support group. I am so afraid I am going to fail yet again!

Sillyoldbear- What all have you tried before moving to IVF? I have tried clomid and injections. The injection cycle was cancelled though due to a hurricane that ripped thru our town. After all the money we lost I didn't have the nerve to dump more money into another cycle so quickly. My doctor said losing weight would help with any treatment we decided to try after this break.

Hi! I would be interested. I am 28 and was just diagnosed last month with PCOS. I am not ttc!! I WAS ttc for 7 years, I had a failed IVF and going right to an IVF was our only option. I only have one ovary (severe endometriosis caused me to have emergency surgery and have one removed) and the tube was totally blocked (they did a histosalpingogram sp?) and the dye could not get through the tube. So, we adopted last January our beautiful daughter who just turned one and then last Valentines day I found out I was 5 months pregnant and my son was born last May. So, never give up hope and I hope all works out for you guys who are ttc!!!

I would love to be able to talk with people who are struggling through the same things I am.

I have severe Endo also. My ovaries are completely surrounded by the disease. Even with the drugs, the eggs can't go anywhere. I had surgery in September to see how bad it was. My doctor wants to do a hysterectomy but wants me to try IVF first. Personally, I am scared to death. Don't know if I could handle it if it didn't take..... My doctor isn't concerned with my weight right now. He doesn't think it is an issue at the moment. It is for me though. That is why I want to get a bunch off before attempting IVF.

What is everyone doing right now to lose weight?I'm sorta doing points (WW) not writing them down just trying to remember all the low point foods...same as staying low fat. I need some buddies to keep me honest. Any ideas on how we can get this group to work for all of us?

Sillyoldbear- I don't know much about endo. Are you going to save the embryos that are not used the first cycle? Would they hold off on the hysterectomy if you made a lot of good embryos for a second try? That would give another chance if the first cycle don't take. I was thinking about trying IVF too. Saving up the money and just going for it. My ovaries are sometimes slow going with the egg making. All the money I dump into injections it may be worth just going ahead with IVF then I have a better chance sperm will find egg & implant. From what I read about IVF that is where most the money goes is into the meds. Maybe losing weight will help the meds for IVF work better

familyof5- wow you have a a true miracle.....how did you figure out your were pregnant at 5 months along? You probably didn't even believe it until labor

It is true that most of the IVF cost is meds. The hospital portion of it is also huge. My dr. suggested that I could go down to Mexico and get them for a fraction of the cost, and since I am in Ca. a lot of people do that. I chose not too, I was nervous enough without making a road trip down to Mexico. I would definitely not have a hysterectomy, I am living proof that miracles happen, they truly do. My tube was kinked, blocked with scar tissue, and somehow it happened.

Losing4another - When I missed my period, I just chalked it up to stress due to the failed adoption match we had. Then, I was thinking about WL surgery and went to the dr. and they said let's do a full blood panel first and that's when they discovered my thyroid was out of whack and they said my missed periods could be caused by my thyroid problem, and since I hit a bout of extreme exhaustion, it all added up to my thyroid being messed up. Nobody ever thought to look at pregnancy because it was impossible...everyone knew my test results...AND I did take two home pregnancy tests and both came back negative, so I didn't dwell on it. We laughed when my hubby brought them home and said wishful thinking. I finally found out because I went to my ob/gyn and said something is seriously wrong, I am having these sharp pains every once in awhile and I have the unbelievable pressure on my bladder. That's when we found out..

Losing4another- As to losing weight, I am counting my calories and exercising. I am buying a treadmill this weekend. It is hard to walk where I live since it rains so much and is so cold right now. And it is flat in the neighborhood. I need a little more. I find I have to journal to keep my self honest. I don't realize how much I am eating until I write it down. Journaling is a huge help. I used to do it in a notebook, but now I use my PDA. I got a program that charts everything for me and keeps track. It is pretty cool.

As far as IVF, I don't know if we would save the embryos or not. The cost isn't much different if the first cycle doesn't take. I would have to do the meds again and the actual procedure is spendy too. And chances go down with frozen embryos. And for me, it is an ethical decision. I believe life begins when sperm meets the egg. So I have a lot to weigh there. We are hoping to try IVF this summer. My husband will be done with school then and hopefully will have a better job. That will help with the cost.

Anyway, as far as this group, this board or email is good for me.... but I too need accountability!

familyof5- I love your story. Don't think I will be so lucky but at least I know a way to boost my odds of getting pregnant. Hopefully it will work. I don't know about mexico either....I would like to stay in the US...... the med cycle is stressful enough without having to go out of country.
What are you doing for weight loss?

Sillyoldbear- I knew a couple women on an TTC board that used the frozen embryos one because she wanted another child and the other because she didn't have the money for a whole new cycle.
I too need to start writing down everything. I have all the WW stuff .I just haven't started keeping track. I'm trying to just reduce calories but I know I can't keep just that up if i want to keep this weight loss up long term...to easy to mess up

You guys wouldn't believe my day yesterday. I had a hose bust in the parking lot of walmart...had to have my car towed...and my father in law yelling at me the entire time. Man it was awful.

I am doing the south beach diet and for me it seems to be working. My craving for breads and other starches are gone but my cravings for sweets in through the flippin roof!!!!!!! If I wasn't inundated everyday by them, it wouldn't be so bad, but everywhere I turn, I see sweets now...lol

what are you doing to lose weight?

I'm really not doing anything but trying to cut calories. Started drinking more water yesterday and lost 1 pound. I have all the WW stuff. I need to go back on that and write everything down. I don't do good on the low carb diets. I must crash or something and don't feel good after a while...then I go on a all sugar diet. Trying to just balance healthy choices. I don't crave breads to much either after trying the low carb ...I stop eating bread all togeher with atkins and never picked it back up. I buy it for something different but the loaf usually goes bad before it's finished. Now Chocolate thats another story...tried sugar free and it gives me an awful stomach ache.
How long have you been doing low carb?

I am finishing up week two, but this past week didn't go so hot. I think I ate some bread everyday this week, not because I craved it, but because of poor meal planning on my part. It's funny, I don't really crave bread anymore at all...it's more of a convenience thing and that's what got me this week. I did great my first week on the program, and I felt much better than I had, so, it seems to work well for me.

This next week, my goal is to plan my meals better and start exercising.

Just wanted to wish you ladies the best of luck! I'm a fellow PCOS'er and have been successful losing weight with counting calories and exercise along with metformin, which has been a miracle drug for me.

I am also new to this board. I am 27. Was dx in 2001. Have been TTC for over 5 years now. We had taken a break from the drugs and everything 2 years ago. It just got to be too much for our finances and my emotions. I was hoping to lose weight in that time frame. I did some, but it came back. I want to get this off before we try TTC again. But just as much as I want it for TTC. I just want to be healthy again. Anyone who does not have PCOS has no idea how much it affects in your life and health. It has changed me in so many ways over the last few years. I don't want to be this person anymore. I want to lose weight, get physically healthy, and emotionally healthy again.

Okay, I think I am rambling now. LOL!

I am trying WW again. I really want to stick to it this time. I hope we can all help each other reach our goals. I don't know where I would be if I had not had the support of other cysters.
