Question Why are some doctors so dumb?

I saw my first doctor since I started to suspect that I have PCOS (had many symptoms and been complaining about them all for 4 years now), and I gotta tell yah, it was interesting. I told him all my symptoms, and explained how I was having a hard time losing weight, no matter what I do (except Atkins, which ends up making me really ill due to my galbladder). You know what he told me? Yes, thats right, NOTHING! He tossed me a box of "Meridia" and told me to take the pills and call their 1-800 number. Looks like I will be trying for yet another doctor! I don't know why this has to be so hard, today I was helping a customer and she informed me that I should get my thyroid tested, and told me a specific test to get my doctor to do, and that I should also get checked for PCOS. And this is a woman who spent maybe an hour with me! What do I do? Someone I came across told me to keep trying doctors, but that in the mean time I should try the South Beach diet. Any other advice? It doesn't look like I'm going to be finding a good doctor anytime soon, but I will keep trying!

Okay, so call me a negative person... but I have to point out that the doctors that are listed here PAY to be listed... and that I've seen one of the ones that is listed, and he didn't do squat for me. He was the endocrinologist that put me on the glucophage and when he took me off of it because I couldn't take it he said, basically, see ya... go back to your other dotor who referred you here, I can't help you.

That isn't support!

Swimgirl i went through 5different big city type docs in the twin cities. And nothing . They all kept giving me provera to get my tom started and that was that. Then i moved to bemidji mn which doesnt have as much as st paul mn and the doc there had just got back from a confrence or something which they discussed pcos!! I was so lucky and after all the test i was d/x with what else PCOS! I know its frusterating but you will get a doc to take notice. Just flip through em. I know we shouldnt have to but it happens.

I wont see an RE as of yet for the same reason. They just tell me to lose weight and well thats what i am doing and when i done losing or down alot i will go back and see them. It gets frusterating i know but it will happen.
