Thank you, astrophe! I'm finding that the more I do this healthy eating thing and consistent exercise, that I don't really turn to the old junkie favorites that I used to think I couldn't live without. I think it's really just a question of being consistent and even when you don't want to eat healthy, to remind yourself that you do know better than your cravings and that you will feel better by choosing better. Small victories.
Good news today too, I got my period! Wooooooohoooooo!!!!! |
Hi there new here just found this site and am so glad to have found it. I was diagnosed PCOS at 14 years old but no one has ever tried to figure out IR except I meet every criteria and since starting a week ago on the IR diet and slowly introducing excercise it has been a hard task but going the road because if this weight doesn't come off I am looking at a short life (high bp and cholesterol and grandmother died at 40) so the road I will travel and continue with the bumps along the way.
As for how am I? Busy but trying to include more time for exercise and relaxing I am a very high stress person and job/school doesn't help so I know that only adds to my problems What are you working on? Finishing my thesis proposal and continuing on this weight loss journey How was last month? Enlightening to say the least after my diagnosis they basically said bc was your only option no cure and have a great life so to actually have sat down and researched and come across a ton of info has been a huge weight lifted off my back How's PCOS Management? I am a lucky one they caught mine really early due to how severe the cysts were and w/ them stopping me from ovulating through bc mine is pretty under control as for the reproductive aspects. Now to get the weight under control. Hope everyone has a good month ahead and again it is really nice all the support you show to one another! |
Welcome Lele!!!! I've been absent from this board for a while, but when I was fully present I got alot of helpful feedback. Whether it be for recipes, exercise or general conversation concerning PCOS. So you've come to the right place!!! There are some people still here from before - but alot more new people that I haven't gotten to know as of yet. Hopefully we can all help if you need anything!!! ;)

OMG -- just making my kid's PB&J for her lunch box makes me want to scarf down the whole loaf of bread. This business of giving up white/wheat is HARD! :o
Ok, that's all I had to share for now. :) A. |
Astrophe- Have you thought of trying a milk thistle supplement? It helps improve liver function and has very low interaction risk w/ other meds.
There is no way I can live without bread for the rest of my life. I take a good dose of cinnamon and watch nutrition labels, but I don't see a reason to eliminate anything completely. For me, telling myself I could never have something again-something I have to keep in my house no less-would be setting myself up to fail because I'd obsess until I caved. White bread is a no-no for me. I can't be trusted with it lol. I LOVE nature's own light wheat or light honey wheat breads. Only 40 calories a slice, and it doesn't start me on that carb craving rollercoaster. I like pb&j too. I use sugar free jelly and just a Tbsp of regular peanut butter, it is friggin' awesome on the honey wheat bread. |
I'm trying to rotate out dairy and wheat and see which one it is that's making me all nose cloggy. Haven't yet seen allergist but I got it down to one of those two as the culprit.
OK day today, but trying to do damage control -- going to do my walk soon. Had some stress eating this afternoon.... coping with eldercare stress is still a big challenge too. But I'm here! That's an improvement over last month's crazy! Baby steps, right? :) A. |
Hey!
I just stopped by to say hello!
I was diagnosed with PCOS in Jan '06 but suffering since puberty. I have terrible hirsutism and I am obese. I have been told to go away for a year and lose weight then I might get some laser hair removal on my face, yay! I have been warned I may need IVF in the future and if I am overweight the NHS (I'm in the UK) will not give this to me. This has never been a concern for me until last month when I got engaged to a lovely man who wants children. Now I have a wedding and future babies as a brilliant reason to slim :D and yet it is still so, so hard! I have been on all sorts of medication, one designed for men with testicular cancer made me so sick, another for insulin resistance I had to stop too but now I have put on some pounds where before I stayed the same. I think starting BCPs to stop my terrible PMS has contibuted to that too :( I keep taking spironolactone though to try and control the hair. Anyway I am still trying to stay positive and I know losing a decent amount of weight will hopefully help me manage it all a whole lot better! Looking forward to conversing with you all! |

AngelCOH: If it is any comfort, I only took Metformin while TTC. My cycles only got to every other month, but I conceived and had my daughter despite that! www.tcoyf.com software helped a lot. Don't lose heart!
ems81wales: GL with both the exams and the doc appt! :) Had a good, active day yesterday. Today not so much, and my eating out with the family screwed up my food log so I'm back to damange control... It is like one good day then one off day, one good day... I suppose I'll take it any which way it comes for now! Stress is at bay today -- that's good. hugs A. |
Welcome!
I am finally back and I need you guys to keep me focused. I have been traveling a lot and last week was another business trip (and more to come next week!) and I need to remember all the good healthy habits I have and not get sidetracked by food pushers. I'm up three pounds, which is a pain in the ***, and I know I can probably go down quickly, since it may be just me retaining water. But, I'm afraid it's not and I want to go back down. I can't go back up. I also have an appointment with the endo on Tuesday afternoon, which should be an interesting conversation. I was supposed to have been taking Metformin and I never did and this appointment was to see my progress. I guess my question in regards to this is should I go to the appointment? I've lost weight (diet, chelated chromium) but I haven't reached my goal (160!) and I'm not taking the Metformin. Suggestions? Should I just wait for the annual appointment? I'm back on the exercise bandwagon and I even exercised while I was travel. The key now is to focus on FOOD, CALORIES, and MACROS. |
Rana: Do you go every 3 mos? I have to see mine every 3. I'd just go and get it done.
My Check In -- sleepy. Weekend eating is a real bear to stay on top of with all the activities. Sodium was crazy high both days and now I'm all bloaty. I need to figure all that out. Today in particular there was a potluck thing and I bonked afterward -- it really makes a difference in my afternoon energy to stick to a 40-30-30 ish split. More carbs than 40 and I get all sleepy in the afternoon. Ok, going to plan tomorrow's food log to be better... A. |
astrophe -- I was going once a year, this time I was supposed to go because of the metformin.
The appointment is tomorrow, I guess I'll go. |
CD30. Headache. Bloaty. Weight gain. Cravings. Helllooooo, TOM! Where are yoooou? It's my first TOM off BCP (taking a break), so I'm hoping it shows up soon and doesn't drag on forever to arrive. Sigh.
This headache is killer. A. |
I'm back from my endo appointment and I swear, it was one of THE best doctor's appointments I've had in ages.
FIRST, I didn't have to wait forever, before they got to me. I sat down for a minute and then I was called in. SECOND, the doctor was really happy about my weight loss and my eating/exercise plan and said it was nice to have patients who did the right thing to take care of their body. THIRD, the doctor took my blood instead of letting the nurse do it, which was weird. FOURTH, I was out of there in about 30 minutes, which is unheard of!!!! I usually go to the doctor's with a book on hand and plenty of time around the appointment because I'm usually left waiting for a long time. So, blood was drawn, I'll get the results soon..... hopefully all is well!!!!! |
Back again to this thread.
I just want to document my frustration with not seeing the scale go down after my travels. I've been eating pretty healthy this week too. ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
