Question Please Help, Unsure and Scared

Hello all,

I've been looking at this board for awhile and you all seem lovely and supportive, and I'm hoping for some thoughts. I am overweight, and do have thinning hair, though so does everyone in my family. I don't really have acne outside of a blemish now and then, and no stray hair growth. I just came off BC and my periods have been regular for about 5 months, and last I can remember pre-BC they were regular-ish. I have physicals often enough, and blood sugar is fine, and had a hormone test done by my derm (for the thinning hair) and testosterone was normal. My GYN has never mentioned th possibility of PCOS even with my thin hair and thick everything else, should I be concerned? I am on a diet now and trying to lose some weight before conceiving, but not sure if I should do this for a few more months or maybe specifically ask about PCOS? Any thoughts? Thanks very, ver much and best to everyone.

It doesn't seem like PCOS is very likely given your current results...which is good! The thinning hair might be genetic. That said, if you're concerned, ask your doctor about the possibility...they can evaluate your symptoms and see if this is something you should be worried about.

Default Thank You

Thanks Mandalinn, I know I should talk to my doctor, but the thought of mentioning it scares me, which is, of course crazy. Better to know right? My skin has been a bit broken out lately and every new spot makes me wonder. Then again, working out in 103 degree heat isn't great for the complexion either. I think back to my pre BC days and wish I'd been better about tracking my periods, I don't remember irregularities, but I didn't pay tons of attention, so...

Thanks again, this is a great site.

You don't sound like it to me from what you described. Other things can cause hair loss -- hypothyroid for instance. But ask anyway and get a check up.

When I was first being dx'd I took a quiz and printed it to show my family doc who agreed I was high risk for PCOS and then sent me to my endoc who confirmed it. I can't remember which one it was though.

Here are a few:

If you are thinking about conceiving, maybe start charting to familiarize yourself with "your" pattern. www.tocyf.com
too.

HTH!
A.

I had my PCOS diagnosed via pelvic and intravascular ultrasounds. You should talk to your doctor, get an ultrasound and know for sure. I've had PCOS for years and it is not something I think about even 4 times a year.

Good luck!
