Sassy_Chick: Yeah, I know. Not only am I PCOS, I'm hypotyhroid. So it seems slow as molasses to me too. Sigh.

Good you you on improving your numbers though! That's awesome. :carrot:

Dab52776: Not really any taking supplements unless you count a multivitamin. I also like cinnamon in my oatmeal and I drink green tea. But I just like them as foods --- I'm not actively trying to use the food as a supplement. (Don't know if that makes sense.)

I'm not trying to get pregnant, so any of those types of supplements don't interest me. I like the outlay of Mary's PCOS faq and there is supplement info there:

http://pcosfaq.com/

Hope that helps!

Nicoyaangel -- hope the tummy bug is better soon!

As for me... I had a decent day today after Spring Break. Parts of the house are back in order, and I carry on with that tomorrow. Did some garden work so wasn't feeling the workout love, but I need to get it done tomorrow.

I'm trying to improve my exercise minutes and they aren't going to happen if I don't actually put in the minutes! I never count garden work -- while it wears me out, it isn't like a good round of cardio. Too stop and go.

Nic... how are you feeling?

Astrophe.... Thanks for the great website. I had recently purchased an ebook all about natural supplements for pcos and it was nice to have something to compare the book's info with. I decided to try saw palmetto (for hair loss), gymnema (for sugar cravings), coq10 (for heart health), and apple cider vinegar (for insulin control)... in addition to my normal multivitamin, vitamin d, biotin, and calcium/magnesium/zinc. I started yesterday, and then I didn't sleep well at all last night, so I'll have to give it a few more days to see if the two things are related!

Earlier this week I saw a number on the scale that I had promised myself I would never see again, so I've really tighten up my eating this week and have been doing LOTS of walking... thankfully the scale was down this morning :carrot: I hope that trend keeps up!!!

Have a good day, ladies!

astrophe 04-07-2010 10:15 PM

End of the day over here. I'm still feeling "blah" with PMS.

NOT in the mood to work out, but going to do it anyway.

Will edit this post when I am done to reflect how the workout went. I'm off!

ETA:

Ok, I got it done. It was the Kim Lyon's "purple workout 2."

Burned 298 calories and I'm feeling cranky in general but good that I got this much done at least.

Day 4 & I feel worse than ever. I haven't been to the gym and I'm not eating solid foods. I wish this "vacation" from work and life was a better one. I really feel crappy. Thank you all for asking xoxo

I hope to get back on track with my weight loss soon.

Did I ever mention how wonderful my boyfriend is??? My faaaaaaaavorite clothing store is Torrid - well for the longest I have wanted the Torrid Credit card (Thanks to my stupid student loans my credit went down the toilet) So today he went and got it & bought me a few things. They fit!! Size 1 in shirts & size 18 in pants. I used to be a size 2/3 and size 20. He said they looked too big (awwww what a guy!) but the smaller sizes actually fit!! That was his get well present for me :) He is going to add me so I can have my own credit card so I can go shopping when I feel better. I talk to him about everything - especially the not feeling so femanine (sp?) He has done everything for me so I don't feel that way.

Astrophe - Thanks for the website. Great info!! I know that don't feel like working out feeling -- so happy you did though. Woohoo!!!

Dab - Duh (to me) why didn't I think of that? I have a barnes and noble gift card. I bet they have books on PCOS. I'm glad someone else thought of it. Hopefully I can go this weekend. :)) thank you!! :)

Well, I am off. I hope you all have a good night/day :)

Sassy_Chick 04-08-2010 02:33 PM

Hey Girls.

I just received a new DVD, Ruby, about a lady who used to be 700 pounds, now she is down too 300 something. Inspirational and gave some mini-workouts and tips. Gives me faith if she can do it, then I can lose my measely 150 pounds. HA!

Astrophe -- Yes it stinks it feels like molasses draining out on a very cold day! lol. They have always thought that there was something wrong with my thyroid because of my weight gain, but its always been normal. But I used to work with a gal who had that and it was tough on her. So big  My mom has the exact opposite so she is skinny mini. Make me sick. :barf: But she has heart problems and so far *knocking on wood* I don't.

Nico -- My friend took me to torrid a few months ago. Pretty nice. I used to be a Fashion Bug/Lane Bryant girl, but lately they aren't that great.

I feel blah today. I went to class and now just wanna veg out and watch tv but my bff and I are supposed to go out shopping today for her little girls bday party, which is the end of the month. But texted her after class and she said that something happened last night (dunno what yet) and she may not be in the mood to go. So hopefully she doesn't wanna go cuz its just one of those days where I wanna just be blah. lol. I asked her if she was ok, she said she was alright, so not sure what happened lastnight. I hate it when people say that. Why not just say, "I dunno if I will feel like it. I'll talk to you later and let you know." and leave it at that. Don't bring up something happened and make me wonder. lmao.

Anywho Have a Great Day Ladies!

UPDATE: Went out with my friend had a blast, she totally worked me out as we did a mass sprint at the outlet mall, was great though!!!! Also I have an interview in the morning!!! WHOO-HOO! :woohoo:

Nicoyaangel 04-11-2010 02:52 PM

Hey ladies!!

Sassy - I love that store. It's quite expensive but I love it. My friend told me about Forever21 coming out with a new line for plus size women. I went on the website but that's not my style. I'm more the rocker kind of girl :-D How did your interview go??

I went to the bookstore yesterday & bought a book called 'A Patients Guide To PCOS' I am going On to Chapter 2. The first half of the book talks about Symptoms that you may have that are related to PCOS. But some symptoms may be also other things. I am convinced - I have PCOS LOL Well aside from the fact that 3 dr have confirmed but this book was the icing on the cake :-P

Well I'm off to read. Have a nice Sunday :)

Sassy_Chick 04-11-2010 08:17 PM

Nico--I got the job!! I start next week. Yes that store is expensive! Speaking of stores. DH and I went to the outlet mall and went to the Crocs store. I was gonna buy me a pair of the healed crocs that I tried on when going there with my bff. I can't believe I can wear heals -- from Crocs I can! Woo-hoo! :woohoo: Well they didn't have the color I wanted but I'm ordering them online. ;) I also bought the 3 Fat chicks book as well! :) I think I'm gonna try doing the Adkins/low carb diet.

I re-read some in the book I got about Sugar-busters. A line in there really got me. It said, "the french stated that potatoes and corn are for pigs." Which makes complete since. That is what farmers feed their pigs to get them FAT. So why the heck am I eating them??? No wonder I'm such a porker! lol. Aw well they are quite tasty, who can really help it? Our bodies are meant to store fat for the harder times that our ancestors had, which we don't have anymore. Wish we could just turn that storing fat gene off. lol.

Well have a Great Night!

astrophe 04-11-2010 10:22 PM

Sassy_Chick -- congrats on the job! I know... potato and corn and bread... all yum! But I need to pare it back some myself. My food log clearly shoes I get crazy when those things appear too much in my meals. It is like they start a chain reaction for wanting to eat more of them and then I can't stay within my calorie range.

I tested "low end normal" for years before it finally got low enough to register as "bad level" and I got the hypothyroid dx and got meds. I felt better then but it annoys me I had to wait so long. Just because the chart says my values are in normal range doesn't mean *I* feel right or it's the normal level for ME. I am a person, not an average statistic. Eh.

Nicoyaangel-- Hang in there with being sick. Hopefully it will be over soon!

I'm doing better. I'm expecting TOM any minute and the headache PMS stuff is finally letting up. Hooray!

SHOPPING

Sounds like everyone is in shopping mode! Only mine probably wasn't exciting to anyone but me. I went to Ross for new pj's -- striped blue ones and another in pink flowers that were cute and very soft cotton. :)

BOOKS

I've checked A Patients Guide To PCOS from the library. It was good.

I went ahead and bought/downloaded this one this week. I'd been trying to hunt down a print copy but finally gave up and went for the ebook.

http://www.ovarian-cysts-pcos.com/

Basically suggesting low gi/whole foods/ primal type diet, which I figured out form reading other PCOS materials but there's some interesting reading on hormones I wanted to see.

FOOD LOGGING ME

I've been very close to 200 g carb (not fiber) and 25-30 g fiber. Also 100 g protein. so I'm doing better with appetite and being able to push away the plate. I feel fuller sooner and can go longer between meals so this is encouraging.

My food log is showing my problems being on the weekends (Fri - Sun) when I eat out more and socialize. Then here come the carb-y sweets, drinks, etc. I have to figure out a way to keep up with the social stuff but order better or go to places that offering better on plan choices. Like I thought tonight I was doing decent with healthy sushi choices. And they weren't awful by any means. But it simply was too much total carb at the end of the day when I came home to update the food log.

Let's see if I do better this week!

A.

Nicoyaangel 04-13-2010 01:39 AM

Sassy wooohooo!!!! That's wonderful. I really hope our economy gets better. I hope it's something you will enjoy doing. Well I hope your shoes come quick :)
I can't wait til payday. I will be grocery shopping but going to stick with my made up diet. Like I always say it helped me lose 30lbs so I plan to do that again.

Astrophe -- I love Ross. Enjoy your PJs. Nothing like a nice pair of PJs to make it a good night :D So far I really like this book. Today since I went to the gym I took a peek at the exercise chapter to see if there is anything they suggest doing at the gym but I am already doing everything they said to do.

Oh and I hate having a scale at home. Looks like this one favors my boyfriend cause it took off 20lbs for him. I think it added it to me LOL But luckily it only adds 2 lbs and takes away 4.

I went back to the gym today. Glad I have a friend that loves going and I am one to feel guilty if I ditch someone so I have to go LOL. It felt good to go back. Can't wait to look in the mirror and actually like what I'm looking at. I love me now don't get me wrong but I'll love me even more 50lvs lighter heehee

Alright well I am off to bed. Have a goodnight ladies. I'll check in tomorrow :)

Nicoyaangel 04-14-2010 03:16 AM

This is my vent session:

So after watching biggest loser and hearing the words "I want to have babies with you" come from my boyfriend I suddenly got this burst of energy & decided to go to the gym. Oh what a bad idea.

We get there and the security man is so rude. I'm not talking about a brush it off and walk away kind of rude but a keep pushing my buttons because you want to see a reaction from me kind of rude. And a reaction he got -- from the both of us.

How dare that security man be rude to my bf when he accidently forgot his gym card but has ID. Then asks him "Did you just snatch that out of my hand?" Seriously, was that question even necessary? He was extremely rude to me because my gym membership apparently is due. It's due every month on the 15th and I have it taken out of my account. I tried to explain to him that I have been going to the other gym and they never said a word. Then with an attitude said "Well IM telling YOU it's not paid!!!" thanks sir for making that LOUD and CLEAR! My boyfriend went off and so did I. Some guy tries to step in claiming thats his "father" and asked that we not call him an a-hole. I quickly told him to butt out unless he wanted a piece of me too.

I told my boyfriend maybe we should go to the other 24 hr fitness I usually go to but NO WAY should I have to leave after being so disrespected. So we stayed. The girl in charged apologized for his rude behavior. Oh you better believe I got the club managers number and something will be done.

I remember when I used to go there years ago with a friend and he was a nice guy. Always remembered my friend and I - greeted us politely. I don't know if he was promoted head rent a cop and the position went to his head but that was totally uncalled for.

But thanks to that anger, I burned 200 calories in 30 min and did some weights. I was letting my anger out on that eliptical machine. It was FUN!!!

Regardless I'm calling tomorrow to complain.

Thank you for letting me vent. I am off to bed :)

Sassy_Chick 04-14-2010 04:48 PM

Hola All.

Thanks for the well wishes. Yes I think this job will be good. I think the co. is a good co. Because there was a little *snaffoo* with my school. (go to college full time) Well I called my admin rep with the college and he stated that I could switch to night classes next week, no problem. Well there is a problem. They don't offer the class I am in at night right now. So it was either drop my class or not take the job. Called the staffing place (who the job is through) and they contacted the co. and the co. is fine with me finishing this class and coming in after class! So that is a great sign, if you ask me. ;)

Astrophe -- Thanks. I went out and bought me some 100 % Whole Wheat Whole Grain Bread (yes checked the ingredients) and some Smoked Turkey and Roast Beef for sandwiches. I have to get off the white stuff (white bread, rice, etc) So I am starting slowly. I love PJ's. My mil got me 2 pairs from QVC that are very nice and I love. So nice to come home and put those on. ;)

Nico - Rude people drive me insane!! Glad you and your BF stuck up for yourselves! I want to find a GYM that is close to my new work. I figure, new job, going back to college = new me. So I am planning on working out everyday. I am thinking on my lunch hour but have to wait and see how that goes first. I don't know when else to go except maybe after class and that would be late at night and I would be BUSHED. I think lunch would be good because it would give me the boost I will desperately need to get through the rest of the day at work and then my class at night! I can't wait for my new shoes! Only thing is I have UGLY toes. I can paint them but they are still just ugly toes with nail polish. lol. Any ideas? I'd love to get a pedicure as soon as I get my 1st paycheck, but for now, any "home remedies" to make toes beautiful??? lol.

Thanks for the books to check into. I am reading the "3 Fat Chicks on a Diet" book right now and so far its excellent (of course) ;) lol Then I have the book Ruby to read. Its by Ruby who used to weigh over 700 lbs and has a show on the style channel on tv now and is down to 300 and some pounds now! She is one of my many inspirations! (got lots of them here too!)

Big  Cysters!

Dab52776 04-14-2010 09:19 PM

Nic... I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to you at the gym.... but good for you channeling that energy into an awesome workout! You go, girl!

Sassy... That's great that your new job is so accommodating. That sure sets the tone for a positive working environment! As for ugly toes.... I've got my fair share. I just polished them, but like you said, I'm not sure they look any better LOL.... let us know if you come up with a solution!

I've been working hard to get myself back up to par with my weight loss plan. I'm doing very well with workouts, but my diet has just been so-so. I'm currently trying a 4 week plan to "wean" myself off of coffee and sweets! I didn't quite make the goal for week one, but so far I'm on target for week 2 :carrot:

Have a good day!

astrophe 04-14-2010 09:22 PM

Just wanted to check in and say hi -- eating a lot of sandwich stuff on the go and the sodium is high. MIL is in hospital so things here are distracting... more later.

I'm going to go workout and try to organize my food log for tomorrow so I can start bringing the sodium back down.

A.

Nicoyaangel 04-14-2010 10:47 PM

Sassy - Dab: Thank you!!! I called the club manager today and told him what happened. He said he would address so I hope he does. It was terrible. I can't wait to buy my house and move out of this ghetto place.

Ok so I came up with an idea today but I need the advise/ suggestions of the ladies :)

In all honesty, I have not eaten a home cooked meal in a while. (Well one I cooked). When I get paid I always write out what I'm going to pay credit cards, car payment, rent, groceries etc. Honestly we eat out more because either we get home late from work and we are just too tired or like on the weekends we are always out and about. I was thinking to just add my credit card and grocery money together. Like I eat subway everyday for lunch, dinner I pick up a salad from trader joes or if it's a gym day I go to Jamba Juice (not all the time) but I honestly can't find the time to cook. Basically what I am asking is - since I'm not eating bad food like McDonalds and stuff like that would it really be bad for me, a woman with PCOS to continue down this route? I mean I know eating a home cooked meal is better but when do I cook? I would rather just grab a sanwichbor salad or if I really want to cook something just buy what I need and that's it. I have bought groceries and because we don't cook I end up giving them to my mom or they go bad.

I need some advice :-\ I know eating carbs is bad for us. But it's a healthy sandwich. I just have to think differently because I'm not "normal" and can do that crazy Taco Bell diet LOL (Has anyone heard of that?) LOL

Ok thanks ladies. Glad I can turn to u :)

astrophe 04-14-2010 11:11 PM

Well, I knew I was going to be crazy over spring break so I signed up for 2 week sof diet to go meal deliveries.

I'm still not fully cooking, but I'm getting back there. I'm breaking out the crockpot stuff so I load it up and it takes care of itself.

I don't know what to tell you -- Subway and Jamba Juice to me is fast food just like McD's is. Slightly better in terms of veggies and fat, but it's fast food and I imagine the sodium is crazy.

But I'm coming from a place of trying to get down to 200 g carb to 100 g protein. I was veg/vegan up til December and that helped a lot -- I got off the Met that way. But I started feeling blah and like I needed a change and adding more protein is helping with the crazy munchies.

I think I might be carb sensitive and I'm not sure if I need to go back on Met. My endoc appt isn't til May.

So long story short... I think it depends on how you are feeling and what you want to achieve right now.

I want to stay off the Met and lose some pounds, and adding more protein means I can go 5-6 hours between meals instead of 3-4. So it helps.

A.
