Question low carb diet

Hello all-I have never posted here before, but I'm a "lucky gal" whose doctor told her she is a classic case of PCOS! I have been diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes. I have followed the food exchange diet for years, but I'm not real successful right now. I'm thinking about low carb, but it's so confusing! I want a simple diet-forget Atkins- where I don't have to constantly count grams of this and that. Anyone have a good simple diet out there that is not too extreme or complicated? Tell me what you're doing and your successes. Thanx, judy

Hi and Welcome!!

I too had the honor of being diagnosed a "text book case" of PCOS.

I understand the confusion and the sometimes "trouble" of following a low carb diet such as Atkins. I don't do well with rules or strict plans, so when I was diagnosed with PCOS, I did my homework and found that I really had no choice but to cut way down on my carb intake. At the time, it was almost all carbs.

So, my doctor and I decided that I would learn how to eat like a cave man. And it worked. I lost 62 lbs. I felt wonderful. I ate meats, veggies and fruits. Tried to avoid any "man-made" foods. This made it pretty easy for me to know what was good for me and what was bad. And soon enough, I didn't miss the soda, pasta, pizza, pancakes. Sure, had them once in awhile, but not everyday, sometimes not for weeks.

I lost 62 lbs and found myself in the middle of a divorce. My "journey" went out the window and I gave up without admitting it to myself. I gained back some weight, eating all the foods I shouldn't have. And now, I am borderline diabetic. I am back on my Metformin and eating like a cave man again. And I feel so so much better. It takes time, but you can feel it.

How's everything been going?

Default Thanks for the input

Thanks for answering, Jennifer-I've been going round and round about what would be the best way to do things-Your method certainly sounds simple-better than counting all these grams-I
m not jumping into anything, I'm taking my time figuring things out.but I've been having knee problems, so I'm getting pretty motivated to get some weight off, plus I'd like to stop taking some of my medicine, especially since my husband has been laid off since November and we have no insurance for meds! It can be so expensive. Anyway, I'm going to get serious about this the week after the 4th of July. I'll probably get a lot of info and kinda design my own diet. )Thanks for the info and I'm glad to hear it's worked for you.

Hi Julynn. Sounds like you have a plan of action. I am so sorry to hear about your husband being laid off. Must be very hard. If you speak to your doctor and explain things, I know there are some programs out there that will give you meds for a fraction of the price. Your doing the right thing by doing some research and planning a "plan". I am rootin for you. Keep us posted.
