Default Moodiness

Every now and then, I experience horrible moodiness. Everything bothers me and I just feel like running away. I also feel like I am having anxiety attacks at times. I was just wondering if any others experience this and how do you handle it?

xraygirl,

Yes I get this, too. Then I tell myself to stop it, since I know I don't have chronic anxiety or anything like that. But I really think with the combination of PCOS symptoms, chemical imbalances, and hardships in trying to fix our bodies, the mild depression and anxiety a normal person may feel can be magnified immensely.

I may start journaling to combat this. You're not alone. I'm sure a lot of us have experienced this. It's feelings of hopelessness and 'I'm never gonna lose the weight'. So frustrating.

But then there's this awesome forum we have here, where you can come and type paragraph upon paragraph to vent, and get tons of support!

Oh yes, yes, yes! I had extreme anxiety problems 10 years ago, at the height of my hormonal instability. I didn't understand, had no idea how to control it, and never had any idea that it could be hormonal. I went to a therapist and first learned that it wasn't going to kill me (that was after I wore a heart monitor for a month and still didn't believe the cardiologist) and the therapist taught me how to breathe and relax and 'push' the pressure out and get through it. To this day, I still breathe the pressure off my chest and eventually out of my toes.

My nurse practitioner recommends Valerian Root. (the namesake for Valium, but gentle and non addictive) Maybe you could ask your doctor if that works for you? But above all, I strongly suggest a counselor that you can just let it all out to. Somebody that is trained to help you with your specific problem. Second, come here and let it all out, everything that scares you or pressures you or overwhelms you. You are not alone!

I'm in the middle of reading "Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy" by Dr. David D. Burns. It teaches you how to cope with depression and stress w/o the use of medication. The techniques it teaches you have helped me tremendously and I'm not even half way through it yet. I picked it up at Barnes and Noble for $15.95.
