Default Question Regarding The Monthly Cycle

Well ladies, I officially am having my first period in a year and a half. Needless to say, I'm more than a little thrilled. DH and I are already plotting our week of extra "special time" to try and conceive.

Now here's my question. I've been tracking my BBT (Basal Body Temp) every morning and I have ovulation sticks ready to go when my period's done. I've heard that having a period doesn't necessarily mean that you'll ovulate. Is this true?

It is definitely true that having a period doesn't mean you'll ovulate, or that you ovulated in the previous cycle. When you don't have a period for a very long time, the uterine lining continues to build up and eventually the uterus sheds some of the lining (so you have a period) to make room for more. It can be dangerous to let it build up so much, because it may shed just the top layer(s) and leave what is below. My fertility doctor prescribed progesterone for me to take monthly to bring on a period since I don't ovulate on my own.

Yes, it's true that just because you had AF doesn't mean you'll ovulate this cycle.

Are you being seen by an RE? A Dr of any sorts? Are you on any meds?

I was going to the Dr. back in the spring, but I quit going because I felt like she wasn't giving me the proper attention. She just kind of had me come in, ordered blood tests, and then put me on pills. I also knew that no amount of medicine was going to fix this until I got serious about losing weight. Now that I'm making an effort to lose the weight, I'm going to go back and start again. I was on Metformin, so they'll probably put me back on that.
