May is going to be a good month for me. It has to be better than the rest so far so I am changing my attitude and making it so!
I start on Yaz this month. I haven't been on a bcp in 7 years. I stopped taking them because of my blood pressure shortly after I started them but the dr thinks this one should be okay! I also will be starting my Actos + Met this weekend. No matter what... I have to. I can't keep putting that on the sidelines.
How is May going to be different (or the same if you are on a roll) for you?
Nelie: Thanks for mentioning that...I didn't even think about the insurance factor. I checked and it is covered. I just wonder what the difference between the Yaz and the Yasmine 28 is, if there is one. I hope that it helps since I already know that I don't get pregnant anyways, I am only taking it to help with the symptoms of PCOS. Did you have good results on it?
Did you succeed in reigning in the snacking yesterday and today?
I tried a new protein bar today. It is the Payday Pro. Im guessing they came up with it to compete with the snickers marathon bars. It tasted good but it was a bit higher in fat, higher in sugar, and lower in fiber than I would like it to be. I might grab it again if there isn't a better tasting choice available that I like the stats on better.
Well I hope May s a good month for me. I was diagnosed with PCOS 12/05 and my dr out me on a diet and metformin. I lost 15lbs in about a month and a half. Then she said I didn't have to go back every 2weeks. So I fell off the diet waggon and stopped taking met (that's terrible, i know) so I've gained the 15lbs back and have not lost since. I do want to lose weight though. I've started my diet again and plan on taking met again, I just need some encouragement to keep going. So I'm really glad I found this thread
I hope that you can find a plan that will work for you. Have you gotten a new script for the Met yet ?
Wishing you a success month of May!
Thank you!
Yes, I got some more met already. I plan to start taking it tonight. I really hope I can stick with it this time around. As far as diet, my dr gave me the Zone, which I really like. Big difference in how I feel when I eat balanced meals.
I was diagnosed with insulin resistance in 2003. Was overweight, lost about 30 pounds in 3 months following sure-slim. Got married, had a baby and still struggling to lose the 70 pounds I put on during pregnancy. DD is now 3 years old and we want to TTC again, but not when I am this overweight.
I am in-between diets. SInce I am IR I am too scared to eat carbs like rice, bread - even WW. South Beach seemed like the perfect diet, but phase 1 was very difficult for me. I made an appointment with a dietician for end of May 2007 (soonest I could get).
I think I may be nearing the "home stretch" -- just 6lbs to lose. And boy, are they going slowly!
I keep trying to get in to see my doctor to get a repeat Rx on my Metformin (my Rx expires in 2 more refills) but they say they don't let you come in for a repeat Rx until your original Rx runs out.
This doctor's office always has terrible wait times and it's hard to get an appointment (especially since I have to take time off work to go in). You'd think they'd be happy to have me come in early and get a repeat prescription during the two months I have now, rather than in the two weeks between my prescription expiring and my running out of Metformin.
I'm not a big fan of my doctor.
Mostly because I have to go in and say "this is my problem, this is what I think would be best to treat it" and she just nods and writes the prescription (otherwise she'd not prescribe me anything and insist I have no medical issues -- I had to fight for PCOS-related blood tests, and what do you know, they proved me right).
I do all the research, all the work (and boy, I have to work really hard to get my problems acknowleged and treated). And then I have to take time off work to go in and pay for a two-hour wait in the waiting room and a five-minute appointment where she rubber-stamps what I already know, just so I can take a piece of paper to CVS and pay $75 a month for a supply of horse pills.
Sometimes I wonder if I should go to med school so I can write my own frickin' prescriptions. It's basically what I'm doing right now anyway.
....And end vent. Sorry! It's just so frustrating to not be taken seriously!
Can you find another doctor? Congratulations on being so close to goal.
I had a physical yesterday and I'm perfectly healthy, according to my doctor, except for being overweight. PCOS does make it a challenge to lose weight but at least I know I can do it if I keep going.
It's really hard to find doctors that are accepting new patients that are on my health plan, so I'm stuck with this doctor until someone better opens up (I'm looking around but nothing yet). I'm getting better at working with her but it's so frustrating.
This month has been going well for me so far, I've been going to the gym 4-5 times a week since March and am (so far) keeping it up. I'm slowly losing weight (1lb a week or so) but at least I'm losing. I want to talk to my doctor about going on Met as well as I think it would help be lose weight and also help with some of the PCOS side effects which have seemed to be worse lately.
I have been hanging in without a kitchen. I did have a couple of slipups and I haven't started my meds but overall I am doing okay. Why haven't I started my meds? Because even without them I am having the same GI symptoms sporadically so I am about to call the dr to get some tests done. Hopefully it is something easy.......
Exercisewise, ummm... still haven't been to the gym. I have been walking throughout the day and doing some stretches/calenstentics throughout the day. Plus moving boxes, painting, and yardwork all count right? Well... I haven't been putting them in as my minutes but I am definately moving more than I was a few weeks ago.
Well I can't believe we are already half way through the month and I haven't done anything. Everyweek I say, ok i'm starting a diet but I break it every time This is so frustrating!!
Met is ok, I' m only taking 500mg to start slowly again.. so far so good.
I was diagnosed with PCOS about a year ago and was just recently diagnosed with insulin resistance. Reason being is that after seeing 3 different doctors they finally told me that I had a problem. My doctor just put me on Metformin last week, so far my body is adjusting good to it, with minimal side effects. I am currently trying to lose about 60 lbs. before my wedding in April 2008. I am newly dealing with this so any suggestions or help would be great on learning more about this.
