Question Should I try it on my own?

I have been on Nutrisystem for 1 week now and lost 8 pounds. that makes me happy, but I really don't think the food is that special or that great, especially the breakfasts. I am a diabetic and try to keep away from carbs. I think their breakfast offerings are horrible in particular. All sweet offerings with relatively high carbs. If it was up to me, I'd have a small omelet with some veggies and cheese. All they offer are muffins, bars and sweet cereals. I think I could do as good of a job buying the food myself. And the cost! Over $265 dollars a month is a lot of money when you aren't wealthy.
I am torn between sticking with this for two months (over $500!) since I did lose so much the first week, and trying to buy healthy prepared meals myself and making my own breakfasts. Maybe I shouldn't mess with a good thing since I've been successful? I wish I could just stay on the diet for one month and then go it myself, but they stick you with a big cancellation penalty if you cancel after 14 days.
Anyone try to shop for their own comparable foods and were successful continuing to lose weight?

Hi Karrun!

Some of my family members have had great success using Nutrisystem (congrats to you too!) but for me, the foods offered as part of the plan were not very appetizing. I did some research and was able to find out the average calorie / protein / fat counts per meal on the Nutrisystem plan and used it to devise my own plan. I substitute the Nutrisystem meals with Lean Cuisines and Smart Ones, and granola / protein bars, and then add the fruits, vegetables, and dairy. I use foods I like, and I think this has been successful for me because I DO like the food!

Have you stuck with Nutrisystem or gone "DIY"?
