Default Weigh-In #1

So this past Saturday was my first weigh in, and holy cow! I'm down 10 pounds in the past month! I absolutely can NOT believe it! The scale wasn't as low as I would have liked it to be, but a person can't complain about 10 lbs, can they? My only problem with the weigh in is the emotion behind it. I'm really afraid that I am going to start obsessing over my weight again, and start associating my value as a person with what the scale says. Anywho, just an update.

Oh Nice Job Shellie!!!!! 10lbs gone forever!

Ive been thinking about the same way as you. Im afraid to get too caught up with the scale. Which is why I havent gotten on it in over 2 weeks. What I have been doing....when I start thinking, "I want to loose 30lbs by such and such a date"....I remember that I just need to get thru today. So far that has been working for me.

Hey guys-

I recommend and practice only weighing once per month. A month is enough time to show change without getting caught up in cycles, hormones, water weight, and other wierd weight phenomena.

I agree on the once a month weigh-in. It seems to be the norm among many OAers. Helps us remember that we're not on a diet, but rather in the process of physical (along with emotional/spiritual) recovery.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the support. I AM planning on only weighing in once a month, because I know that if I do it more, I am a lot more likely to get sucked in to the whole obsessive cycle again. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to just kind of forget(but not really) the number on the scale? It seems to be stuck in my mind, and I'm having a hard time focusing on recovery rather than weight loss.

Hey there Shellie-
It's totally normal to be focused on weight loss. It's what you've been doing for your whole life. Changing to a focus on recovery is going to take time and practice.

When you feel that you're obsessing about the numbers on the scale, pull out your "For Today" book and read a passage or make a phone call. Writing about your feelings really helps too.
