How much protein do you get?

  • I've seen a few posts lately that say you should get plenty of protein and I assumed I did, since I drink skim milk and eat a lot of chicken and fish and frequently have egg whites for breakfast. I went through my fitday logs, going back a week or two and I average between 25-30% of my total daily calories from protein.

    Is that enough?
  • It depends on what you do. I seem to remember a post from you that you are not a fan of weight training or heavy exercise in general, so that's probably plenty as long as the rest of your diet is from HEALTHY carbohydrates and fats.

I lift heavy daily, do daily cardio, and have a non-sedentary job which involves dragging weights around a gym. I aim for about 45% of my calories to come from lean protein.

  • Thanks, Mel
  • Wow, 45% that's amazing Mel. I hover between 25-30 with the aid of specific protein additions to my diet. I'll be trying that Instone pudding soon some of you gals like
  • Check out GNC--I bought that pudding on clearance for $1 each (4pk box). It was the vanilla which some people didn't like but it works for me

  • Roughly 50% of my daily intake is of protein...I'm South Beaching it, so I eat a lot of chicken!
  • I get between 20 and 30% of my daily intake from protein. I aim for 100g a day, most days I fall short a few grams. I lift 3 x a week.
  • I also lift a couple of times a week, and get 25-30% of calories from protein, about 100-105 grams. That's higher than the recommended daily intake, but good for heavy exercise. I am not trying to bulk up (nor do I think I even can).
  • I usually get around 100-110. However because I eat more calories it's usually only 20-25%. I'm a little carb heavy, I like my cereal
  • I aim for 30% of my calories from protein - I lift 4 days a week...
