  • Ack, we threw my brother a surprise birthday party yesterday. Impossible to eat healthy. And today, I was just plain lazy. Is fitday a calorie recording thing?

LLV, that is fanfiction. Icedragon, I could never starve myself. I am too food-loving :P

Yes it is, you can input all your calories for the day and also make your own custome foods... I use it all the time...

Does thinking burn more calories.... !!!

I used to play a lot of chess (not at grandmasters level!) and yes it was hard work! i think for me it was trying to think ahead and memorise the what if's before i made every move! I used to feel physically exhausted!
Yes, that is what I meant. Visualizing all those possible moves takes alot of neural activity, which requires alot of energy. Most of us are far too lazy to expend much energy this way. That sort of mental activity is literally hard work.
  • I try to stay between 1,000 and 1,300. Yesterday I had about 1,600. Today I've had about 600 but I don't really plan on eating much else, but I'll have to so I don't go below 1,000.

Any reason you're keeping calories so low? 1200 calories is generally considered a cutoff for anyone. People who weigh more need more, and I would think you could eat closer to 2000 calories/day and still lose weight and get enough nutrients, etc. If you aren't being closely monitored by a doctor, I'd urge you to read more, educate yourself about calories, and possibly eat more. Reading the earlier posts on this thread is a start!
  • Claire - the difference in what the person in the thread said earlier and what Meg said is this:

to see what you burn naturally = 10 X weight - this is your basal metabolic rate...for your body to function on a daily basis...if you weigh 150, your bmr in this case would be 1500...this is not a maintenance calorie needs...you will lose weight if you only eat this much every day...
to see what you need to maintain = 15 x weight - for 150 lb person this is 2250 - this takes into account all your daily activities (watching tv, doing laundry, etc...) so that you won't gain or lose weight...

    does that make sense?
