Default Subway Sandwiches (Only 280 Calories?!)

I was thinking about having Subway for dinner tonight (cheap, and somewhat healthy) so I looked up the nutrition information on their website and a Turkey Breast Sandwich only has 280 Calories?!!? Is that for real?

I'm assuming that's just the bread and meat? No veggies or cheese?

This just seems odd to me! I'm also a bit amazed that their website doesn't state exactly WHAT is on the sandwich at that amount of Calories...

Anyone sure on this?

There's some small print at the bottom of the page that says:
Quote:
Subs with 6 grams of fat or less include Italian or wheat bread, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, green peppers and olives. All other sandwich values include cheese unless otherwise noted.
The 6" turkey breast is one of their 6 grams of fat or less ones, so the nutritional info includes all the veggies but no cheese.

Enjoy!

Anytime I go to subway, I have to add cheese and condiment calories to my sandwich total, but everything else is included (bread, veggies, meat).

I love subway!

Also:

They have light mayo and reg.
So if you do have it added, just make sure you know which one you are getting

I always just use mustard b/c that way you know how much fat is in it

Be careful with the light and reg mayo option!!!!

I know 3 people who worked at Subway at one time or other (different locations, different owners/managers), and they all said that the manager would fill two containers with the same mayo, and then stick "light mayo" label in one, and "reg mayo" in the other. I don't think either was light mayo...

I'm not saying that's the case at all Subway locations (or similar chains), but better be careful. I'd recommend that unless you can really trust the location, your own light mayo or ask for something else.

I can't stand mayo, so that's not an issue But i'm honestly not surprised at the switching of the bottles!

Yes, it is 280 calories for the 6" sub with no cheese or mayo. You can get the meat and any veggies you want. I usually get a foot long (I'm a pig) Veggie, turkey, or ham sandwich on wheat bread with TONS of veggies. Then I get mustard, vinegar (NO OIL! lol), salt, and pepper. I will occasionally get cheese, but I ask for only 2 or 3 little triangles instead of the 4 they usually put.

If you get a 6", you could do cheese and light mayo, but to me, I would rather do without and be able to get a footlong...lol. That's why I'm in love with the veggie sandwich...tastes great and very filling.

Quizno's also has some "light" sandwiches. One is a turkey sandwich, which my husband loves. I love the chicken one. I think it's Honey Bourbon chicken or something like that. Of course, no cheese or may on it. But I love all the peppers they have, so I make mine so spicy that you wouldn't taste the cheese anyways.

Oh my! I am STARVING now!!! I could go ON and ON about food right now. I think I might just have Subway for dinner tonight, too.

Oh, one more thing...make sure you don't get the cheesy bread! I can't remember what it's called...Monterey Cheddar or something. Basically, I think all the breads are fine except for the one with the cheese in it. I made the mistake of getting it one night, thinking it couldn't be that bad, but when I got home and looked up the nutritional info, I was shocked at how many extra calores and fat grams were in it. Also, watch out for the cookies! lol They are soooo good, but so bad...lol.

Just had Subway last night. I always go for the turkey and ham on wheat with mustard and loads of veggies. You can find out the nutritional information on all of their breads on their site. Wheat and Italian seem to be the better selections. Or, you can always get it on a wrap.

I always get a veggie delight (minus cheese and mayo because they are gross) and get sweet onion sauce on it. So good! And I don't feel guilty after eating it.

I have been doing Subway for the last 3 weeks and I think it really helps. I get ALL the veggies. Why not? Taste great and good for me and included in the price. I like they toast them now and I also like that at least in my area I can get spinach leaves instead of lettuce.

I also do not get cheese and spiecy mustard instead of mayo. The thing about the cheese is I realized I can not even taste it in the sandwhiches so it was totally wasted calories. The breads do vary a bit in fat content most between 2.5 to 3.5 grams fat except the cheesy one. So I stay away from that one. I have also found the baked dorittos (spelling) to be really good especially the ranch.

I tried baked cheetos at a store and it was actually better than normal cheetos to me. I hope they carry those at some time. Bummer that they do not give the stamps out anymore because of fraud. Ah well.

A guy in line in front of me yesterday asked about the stamps. The cashier at my Subway told him they are going to reintroduce the SubClub at some point, but it's going to be all computerized. I'm ready for that, 'cause I want to start earning the free subs again.

I never really thought about the flavor of the cheese, but now that you mention it, I can't really taste it, either. I need to stop having that put on my sandwiches, I guess!

ha ha that's funny about the two mayo containers at subway. not surprising though. i wouldn't get light of reg at subway even if i ate mayo (yuck). my friend used to work there and she said they never wash those bottles. they just refill them. she washed them, but she's just one employee, you know.. those things sit out all day, with crusty stuff on the tipss, eggs in the bottle, never washed! gross!!
other than mayo, subway is awesome though! i love all their seven under seven or whatever the number is of the light sandwiches.
