chicken broth

  • I have heard that drinking chicken broth or starting a meal with a broth based soup is a good way to help you eat less. My concern is the sodium in the broth. I don't remember exactly what it said but I thought it was something like 34% or 37% for 1 cup. Is that too much and will that just defeat what I am trying to do?
  • i was really surprised at how much even the "low sodium" chicken broth had. But there is a low sodium veggie broth that is onnly 50 mg of sodium per serving. So that might be an option if sodium is important to you. I cant remember the brand name, just look at the labels and you will find it.
  • you could make your own...the next time you cook a whole chicken , simmer the bones with celery carrots onions and a few spices for 3 to 4 hours...then place then in pint containers and keep in the freezer.
  • or freeze them in ice cube trays -- then you have one ounce cubes you can use for all sorts of things!!
  • Thanks for all the good ideas! I will have to try them.
