Well, I am just the opposite. Grapefruit has been my best breakfast buddy since mid Janaury. Texas Grapefuit is 1.99 for a five pound bag this week on sale.I have a whole one each morning for breakfast.
To me Ruby Red or
Rio Star just rocks.
When I grew up my my Mother would take a serrated knife(known as the grapefruit knife) and ran it carefully loosen the sections of a cut grapefuit. When I married she actually bought me a knife as a gift One of my Grandmothers had a set of Grapefruit spoons, with little serrated teeth on the bowl so it could agressively dig out the meat of the grapefruit.
But finally at age 43 I learned we could just peel the sucker and eat it like an orange.
Last week when my parents came to lunch I peeled the grapefruit and sliced them into rounds. Then I split the rounds into half circles. I put them on a stainless steel tray and they looked really sharp.I added a few orange rounds for contrast and < 'Viola> a plate of fruit becomes something a bit more.
I don't cook with them- at the most I might add a touch of Splenda. No reason to ruin something not only good- but good for you !
