Momentum/Flex Chatterbox [Jan 2010] :)

I noticed that GivTLC started interest in a weekly chat back in October '09, but I haven't noticed a thread. Maybe I missed it?

Ah well, I've created this one for support and encouragement for all of our Ladies and Guys who have taken up the journey for a new and healthier us. And I give all credit to Giv for the thread idea, :D

Welcome, and Happy New Year! ;)

Hm, to start us off...
Anyone want to share some of their goals or accomplishments?
Challenges?
Recent events that made you want to jump up and do a happy dance? :carrot:

Well, hugs to you all,,
Zan

zanheltangia 01-08-2010 03:02 PM

:)

Well, another 30 minutes before I'm off work for the day. :D

My goal for the weekend, walk two hours before I return to work Monday morning.

This is a rather quiet subforum.

Best of luck,
Zan

ibcnuldu 01-08-2010 03:16 PM

You'd think it'd be more active since a lot of people use WW

I'm planning on trying the 30 Day Shred video today, I'm sure it will kick my butt. I've also convinced my brother to join WW :D

Snakewhissperer 01-08-2010 09:23 PM

I'm joining karate on the 18th..the delay is because that is when it starts, not because of me ;-)

zanheltangia 01-11-2010 11:59 AM

:)

I did it, :D. Went to the mall Saturday with my sister, we were up and walking for just under three hours before we walked around walmart and then Sams club. Only spent money on gloves for work and lunch and dinner (within my points). Then on Sunday I earned 35 minutes on the Wii fit with my mother.
:carrot:

ibcnuldu, converted another to WW, huh? ;)
How was your video? Did you manage to get to it?

Snakewhissperer, awesome! I'm not brave enough to attempt something like that myself, :o, sounds like fun!

SissieSue 01-12-2010 02:23 AM

Accomplishment: I've been on plan on my own about 4 weeks now and have lost about 5lbs. It's a good start for me, and I'll be officially joining a WW at Work meeting on Thursday.

Goal: Get in more exercise, especially weights. I've been working my butt off (literally, lol :-) on the treadmill, but I need to pump some iron so that I don't lose too much muscle. I don't want to just get smaller -- I want to lose fat and keep as much muscle as I can!

Julie131 01-12-2010 04:41 AM

Oh, I am glad to find this thread. I have been on WW for 5 weeks now, and losing very slowly, but I am happy with my progress. The slowness of the loss is my own fault, not the program.

My goals for the week are doing yoga 3 mornings before work, walking every day at lunch, and NO diet cokes before class (or any other time for that matter!)

If I lose .4 this week at weigh in I get my 5lb star AND am in a new decade!

zanheltangia 01-12-2010 09:55 AM

:)

SissieSue, awesome! Where do you think you start with the weights? I think I need to start that up myself as well. I could use a few ideas, :D

Julie131, I thought soda would be a hard thing to give up myself. But trying to get in all my water has seemed to distract me from it, and keeping sweet fruits easily accessable has really helped with the sugar cravings. Like tart green apples. I'm cheering you on for that 5 lb star! :carrot:

donnalynn 01-12-2010 03:12 PM

I would love to join the conversation. I started WW again yesterday. I have done WW in the past being very successful. Last year proved to be a very challenging year for me....I lost my father to cancer, had a medical scare myself, my only child went away to college.:( I will stop there because the pity party is over. Now is the time for me to take care of me.

I am determined to drop the weight and would love to have others to keep me focused and on track.;)

zanheltangia 01-12-2010 07:00 PM

:)

Glad to have you, Donnalynn! :carrot:

Well, I don't know about you ladies, but I'm heading out the door to get some walking done. Finished my grocery shopping, measured and put everything away, and now I'm off!

Let's see if I can brave the cold for at least an hour, :brr:
Well, cold for florida that is... :D

 Can't wait to hear how you guys are doing!
Zan

---------------Edit---------------
Well, 30 Minutes will have to do tonight, I seemed to have pissed off a pair of black ankle-biters (it's a loving term, really!). And encouraging their barking at nearly 8pm is a bad idea with retired ladies and gents around (not to mention the few that still work days like me!).
Ah well. Goal half-accomplished.
----------------------------------

Julie131 01-12-2010 08:48 PM

Well zanheltangia, I hope your walk was good and you didn't freeze your arse off! Or maybe I should hope you did! LOL!

Everyone else:wave: I am looking forward to sharing our trials and tribulations.

Well, my diet coke wagon didn't last long. :( I will try again tomorrow.

I did ok today aside from the coke setback. I did Yoga this morning, walked at lunch. My eating has been OP and life is good. Treadmill tomorrow morning for 45 minutes.

Everyone else?

ibcnuldu 01-13-2010 01:40 AM

Hope everyone is doing well :)

I lost about a pound and a half last week. I've been super busy lately with work and school, but I'm still staying on track!

I'll probably start with mostly upper-body weights because I'm vain and want killer shoulders :dizzy: I think I'm going to stick with the basics and use free weights instead of the machines. I can never get the machines to work quite right, but with weights, I just have to lift them. I have a long-term goal of being able to bench press whatever my body weight is . . . but right now I can only do about 40lbs! :( I'll keep on trying, though!

I found some great ideas on the Body for Life website. Those folks who do that program really strive to get toned, and there are worksheets available for free that give great upper-body and lower-body weight workouts. There are even some videos that demonstrate the moves.

Good luck, zanheltangia, with your weight-lifting adventures! :D

donnalynn 01-13-2010 07:43 AM

Good Morning Ladies,
So glad to have folks to talk to. I see that most of you have exercise goals so I will start by sharing mine. I am committed to doing strength training at least 4 days/wk and cardio 5 days/wk. I know it's just Wednesday but so far so good.

It's been very cold and snowy in TN for almost a month now so walking must be done inside....can't wait for sunshine.

I wish a wonderful Wednesday to all!:carrot:

Julie131 01-13-2010 02:16 PM

Hey all! Glad to see everyone is motivated!

I did my treadmill workout this morning. It is 45 minutes and really a challenge. If anybody wants it I would be happy to forward it. Going for a run after work because it is absolutely beautiful outside for a change.

Take care all,
Julie

zanheltangia 01-13-2010 03:35 PM

:)

I've got WI in a few hours, a bit more nervous about it this time than my first one. I kept on plan, but with all the visitors and with coworkers leaving and having their good-bye luncheons, these visits to restaurants are making me uneasy. That and I picked up some WW frozen items. If my WI disappoints me, I'll definitely return quite strictly to my raw veggies that was the major food I ate in my first week. ;)

I'd have to say that my key accomplishment yesterday was avoiding the heavier Irish foods at the pub my coworkers picked. I was extremely lucky to find a turkey burger without bun hidden on the menu with a side of two red potatoes and some rather over cooked brocolli. I guess a regular to the place was diabetic and had other issues so the pub created a multi-choice plate just for him. Nice of them. :D Saved my bum as well, hehe.

My walk was nice, though I need a thicker jacket, :brr: though that had me walk faster, so maybe not. :D

Yay, ibcnuldu! That's great!

Eek! Got to run. Work's out - will continue post tonight! :dizzy:

donnalynn 01-14-2010 09:12 AM

Julie
I would love to see your treadmill workout. I could use a change.

zanheltangia 01-14-2010 09:33 AM

:)

Happy Thursday!

Wow, SissieSue, nice goal! I just love free workout information! Thanks!

Good to hear, donnalynn! I bet it must be a bit difficult to change it up when you're trapped indoors because of snow.

Have fun, Julie!

I need to get my butt outdoors and walk tonight. I managed a half hour the last time, so I'll try 45 minutes. Maybe I can creep past the dogs this time...

donnalynn 01-14-2010 10:18 AM

Zanheltangia...looks like your second weigh-in went good...congrats!

Haley8203 01-14-2010 06:35 PM

hello all! I started WW for the first time yesterday, so far so good. a couple classmates and I are committing to an hour exercise class at our school gym and today was one of them, and I am sore!!

zanheltangia 01-15-2010 10:08 AM

:)

Thanks, donnalynn!
I'm hoping to break my 10 lbs goal this week; I really need some new sneakers to help keep me motivated, exercise-wise!

I slacked off and never made that 45 minute walk like I wanted to. But exercise has never been a favorite of mine, changing how I eat is like breathing compared to it. Ah, well.

Welcome, haleygirl82! Awesome work getting that commitment in!

zanheltangia 01-15-2010 05:04 PM

;p

Well, my weekend goal will have to be a bit different this time. Instead of exercise, I got to get my resume in order and work on some essay questions to apply to attempt to get a less flimsy job. One plus, my last day has been pushed back four months! *does a little happy dance* But my job is still a temp job, :(

Well, I'm keeping my spirits up and my weekend goal is to stay within my points and get up and move instead of growing moss as I sit in front of my computer monitor! Maybe I'll take my essay questions for a walk, and pause and jot things down when they come to me. ;)

Happy weekend to you all! :D I hope everything is going as hoped so far!

Haley8203 01-15-2010 06:17 PM

zanheltangia- good luck with your resume!

today I went to an hour kickboxing class at my school. Weekends I don't always exercise but since my daughter's school is closed on Monday I'm going to do week 2 day 1 of the couch to 5k at my mom's house instead of my school gym

zanheltangia 01-16-2010 12:22 PM

...

Thanks, i'm going to need it. I feel the procrastination bug biting. ;)

Wow, kickboxing! Such an inspiration, :D

ibcnuldu 01-16-2010 12:25 PM

I've been kind of MIA the past week :P Just had a seriously hectic week. I really need to exercise more. I only exercised twice this week. It doesn't seem like enough to me.

zanheltangia 01-16-2010 12:35 PM

...

Twice is a heck of a lot better than none! ibcnuldu, good to see that you are back,

Yeah, but I used all of my flex points this week. I find that my body always gains a lot of water weight after strength training and I'm on my period. So I'm not really sure how much I lost. I'm thinking of postponing my weigh in.

zanheltangia 01-18-2010 02:10 PM

;p

You could always use your "free weigh in" pass if you really rather not hop up on that scale and still get and give meeting input. That is if you go to meetings ;) But yeah, I fight a mean TOM myself, my iron gets so bad that I just zombie around and give people looks if they want me to do something physical.

Well, I had an odd weekend. I tracked fine on Sat but Sunday went out the window as soon as I realized I woke up around noon. Craming in 32 points into those eight or nine hours of awake time would have been easy to do healthily if I was at my own house, but at my folks' house? I'd feel like a mess! So unfortunately that lead to not paper tracking, though my mental tally was 16-20 pts for the day. Bleh! Stupid lack of appetite.

On the plus side though, I managed to snag my sister both days and we did a quick nature walk on Saturday before a mile on the treadmill and two miles on the exercise bike before her gym closed. Then went back soon after I woke on Sunday and did another two miles on each.:D That felt good and I'm not sore so I didn't over do it.

I think I'll post her and maybe my pics if I can get that part working.

I hope I make it to -10lbs total this week, I could use non-muddy sneakers. :p

zanheltangia 01-18-2010 02:42 PM

Trail Pictures...

Sorry that the pics are so large...
At North Forks, a nice and windy day ;)

My sister, we took the path less traveled... or in this case muddier and rather narrow. :D

The day is going by so fast!

ibcnuldu 01-19-2010 05:19 PM

That trail looks lovely! We have nothing like that here.

I lost 1.5 lbs last week. I kind of went off plan yesterday, but I'm back on today. I should exercise tonight, but I've been so lazy lately. I'll probably bike for 15 minutes and do my 30 Day Shred dvd.

zanheltangia 01-20-2010 08:15 AM

;p

Are the trees and such rather sparse in Kansas? At least there's no worries over mosquitos this time of year for you guys, we got attacked about half way down the smaller trail. ;)

Congrats on your 1.5 loss! I tripped myself Sunday, but at least we hopped back up. :D

Haley8203 01-20-2010 01:16 PM

had my first week weigh in today. down 3.4lbs.....yaay! I'm proud of myself because I gave it 100% and I didn't have to kill myself in exercise or starve lol I ate all my extra points lol Happy Wednesday everyone oh on Saturday we're going to the shelter to adopt a cat I'm so excited!!

zanheltangia 01-20-2010 02:50 PM

WooWhoo!

Awesome haleygirl82, Congrats!!! :carrot:
Oooh! Will you post pics of your new kitty???

I've got WI myself in a couple hours. I think I did good, and if so, I'll be picking up a new pair of sneakers as treat to myself. I'll be so happy to get rid of these muddy and falling apart things on my feet. ;)

calboydoc 01-20-2010 03:52 PM

hello everyone... I am so glad you started a thread. What is the avarage amount of weight to loose per week?? I lost 5lbs the first week, and 1lb the second, and 1lb the thrid week. I have not been able to exercise very much at all. I guess it is a good thing that I am loosing something each week. I am a mommy to a 9 year old and a 6 month old plus I work full time. So I just want to see what you thought the avarage is.
Thanks
Patrisha

Haley8203 01-20-2010 06:44 PM

zanheltangia-Thank you! I certainly will post pics...I am so excited! Kate wants to get a girl and we've decided to name her Daisy....c'mon saturday hurry up!! haha! good luck on your w.i.!!

zanheltangia 01-20-2010 07:20 PM

:)

Well, those sneakers will have to wait for next weekend! But -.8 lb isn't bad at all. ;)

Average on WW is .5 to 2 lbs a week, so your 1 lb weeks are great, Patrisha! :carrot: And the 1st week's loss of 5lbs was awesome!
I'm pretty sure taking care of two young kids is exercise in most peoples' opinion, and especially in mine! Remember, even housework is exercise, just keep moving. :D

Aw, Daisy! :hyper: I can't wait to see the girl you'll pick out! :D
Thanks for your wishes of luck, I'm rather happy with my WI, thanks!

hottpinkmomma 01-20-2010 09:11 PM

Hello ladies! I am new to WW and to this site! You all seem so great! I am impressed with everyone's determination!! I hope you all don't mind me jumping in here on this thread....
I started WW a week ago (at home, no meetings) and I have lost 4.2 lbs!!

Haley8203 01-21-2010 06:58 AM

hottpinkmomma-Congrats and welcome! I started last week too but I need the meetings, tried at home, turned out miserably lol

zanheltangia 01-21-2010 08:27 AM

:)

Hello, hottpinkmomma, glad to have you here! 4.2! Awesome 1st week.

Alright, everyone! Any plans or goals for the weekend? :D
