For those of us that haven't upped our activity levels...the wii fit is great. If you use it...it works. The first time I weighed I was at 171...as of this morning (one month later) I weighed 164.5. I spend 20 - 30 minutes most mornings doing the yoga and strength training...several times a week I'll play the balance games and the aerobic games. I am also using my treadmill a minimum of 30 - 60 minutes an afternoon. I've only skipped a few times since starting.
I guess depending on your personality...it can be very motivating. Because I do weigh every morning and have this chart available I am very concious of my eating!!! Also, just trying to beat my own scores keeps me returning to the board time and time again!! So, will it make you look like a body builder or a Victoria Secrets model...doubtful, but for those of us overweight and needing to MOVE...it's a start!! |
elizabeth & vixjean - awesome information! I did take a quick side trip to your blog articles elizabeth. :) When I have more time, I will explore more. :) And like LeeAnne I would like to hear more about the games for the Wii Fit!
short & sassy - Well, that fits me to a T! :) I have been waiting to integrate scheduled exercise into my life until I have hit a plateau - so far I am losing a minimum of 2 lbs a week. I haven't done too much other than ordinary stuff - clean house, laundry, gardening, etc because I don't want to lose too fast - in the past, that hasn't been a good thing for me when I want to maintain. |
We bought a WII fit the very first day it came out. We love it. The whole family uses it on a daily basis. The step classes are a riot along with the hula hoop (I am the queen of hula hoop). The more "fit credits" you get the more activities open up for you (a fit credit is just the amout of minutes you use it). The strength training can actually make you sore the next day if you do enough. Totally worth the money!

I am curious.. the board is a scale and measures BMI? Compared to the scale that you are using, is the board close to what you had been weighing in on your scale or did you get a shock?
I have a feeling that we are going to have a problem finding one around here like we did the Wii. They were in one of the stores we went to for $89.. I see on Amazon that they are $179!!! |
Yes, the balance board is actually a scale. I have found that it very accurate...

G'day all,
Just noticed posts about the Wii Fit, (I normally post on the '60's and beyond') and thought I would add my experience. I think it is the best thing out, I have used it everyday for the last 5 weeks and there is nothing negative I can say about it. I had just about given up on much in the way of excercise, bad feet, bad back etc.etc. I now choose what I do which usually is yoga excercises (and I can now almost touch my toes again;)) do the stepping and finish off with the boxing. I started off with my Wii Fit age at 72 , 5 weeks later my Wii Fit age is 56 (my actual age is 63). You gotta be happy with that:) Cheers Maria |
I think there are a lot of critics of the Wii Fit for no good reason. Yes, you could make the argument that you can do all of this stuff in a gym but for people who don't go to a gym to do all the activities the Wii Fit provides, it's excellent. People are going to buy video games no matter what. If I had kids, I would rather have them standing on the Wii Fit board, getting excited about aerobics and balance activities rather than sitting down playing Guitar Hero for hours on end. Wii Fit isn't going to revolutionize your life or anything but it's certainly going to get people's butts off the couch.

I bought it a few weeks back and loved it.
But I must admin my playing has already become less and less. At first I doing it at least 30 minutes a day the past few days I have been lucky if I remember remember to log in and o the body test - I blame this on the Nike+ I bought last week, haha. I think it can be an excellent work out if you put your all into it and it is motivating and keeps me going - I like to see how many credits I earn - if I can unlock something else. I know 10 minutes of hula-hopping and my sides hurt! I don't think I would ONLY do that, but I can't see why you couldn't. It is better them nothing I think. |
OH MAN do i want a wii fit. i currently am motivated to do NO excersise, haha. wii fit would be a great starting point, but i def do not believe it to be in replacement of what i really need to be motivated to do! haha. but at least it's a start right?
too bad they're sold out everywhereeeeeeee. |
You can find them online.
I did a search on pricegrabber.com to compare prices and satisfaction of sellers. Ours is due to come tomorrow! |
LOL.. I wonder what my Wii Fit age is going to be? There are days...
I think that anything that is going to get someone to move rather than sit on their butts is a good thing. My issue, to be honest, is that it is easier for me to sit at my desk in front of the computer than exercise - since I love to play video games, I think the Wii is going to get ME going.. :) |
Chey, you'll probably love it once you get one. I find myself wanting to add other activities to my routine now that I don't think I'd be planning on if left to do this without the motivation of the game!!

One of my cousins brought his Wii to the fam reunion, thought that was kind of weird, but once I played I thought it was great, we boxed, bowled, played tennis, it was pretty neat. And it def. keeps the kids moving, the other game the kids loved was guitar hero on the PS, they were rocking out, playing behind their heads and stuff, at least they're moving, they're going to play regardless, so if you can get them moving that's a good thing.
I told DH I want one, I think it would be good for winter, when you can't get outside, we'll see what happens, the Wii Fit sounds interesting, my mom wanted the brain age and DS Lite for mother's day/birthday, so we got it for her, I was playing it on the plane, it does the same thing with your age depending on how you do the puzzles and stuff, that was neat. |

LOL vixjean!
That sounds like fun.. but I have to get the Wii Fit first! :) Although she did say any games.. I could box for 30 minutes.. (I think) LOL :) May have to create another ticker for Wii activity! |
