won't eat because of possible gains either being a trigger food or a food that doesn't allow you to lose weight?
Generally mine are still junk foods because of past lack of control. I generally stay away from very salty foods but yesterday was an exception with the 94% fat free popcorn.
I have a new air popper and I think that I'll use to keep those popcorn points tracked and not salt it.
My New Year is going to be a Flex year. I think I have to count those points and enjoy an occasional treat that gets incorporated into the day's points.
I can't have chips of any kind in the house. No doritos, fritos, cheetos, potato chips, etc. When I need them, I buy the 1 oz. bag at Walmart. They are 30¢ and it gets rid of the craving for awhile.
Also, although I eat my regular recipes, and try to practice portion control, there is one casserole that I just can't deal with. It has sausage, cheese, & macaroni in it, and is a total comfort food that I cannot leave alone! When I feel the need for it, my DD Mary makes it, and brings me a reasonable portion.
(Btw, I'll put a "food porn" warning in the title of this thread, so those that could be thrown into a binge won't read it. )
I tried skinny cow icecream bars (only 140 cal) which I loved, but I had a hard time eating just one and after 2 or 3 I'd just want more sugar. So for the time being (on most days) I'm staying away from icecream and any white carbs: cookies, cake, pie, white bread, pasta etc. Hard to do during Christmas, but so far so good. Jane, that casserole sounds delicious and could put me over the edge as well.
I'm so glad I posted this question. I'm very new to Flex. I have been a Core follower most of the way and I consider myself very "green" with being a Newbie on Flex. I would never have thought of buying chips if I wanted them in those small bags figuring don't eat them at all. Truth is, I could if I wanted to. I appreciate your answer about that as well as the answers about foods that would cause a binge.
Today I ate 1 cup meaured of Corn Chex with a cup of skim milk and a small 1 point can of peaches that are in the Splenda sweetened water pack. I casually said to my Mom who is 79 y/o and hard of hearing if I could binge on a food, it would be Corn Chex as I was putting the box back lol. Well, she looks at me and says should I throw the box away? Is this your trigger food? I thought oh my, that was a stupid thing to say! I truly love that cereal but binging is just what I overcame. I was making a joke but I'm so sorry I even made that comment.
So far, so good. One thing I can say is that I eat enough but I'm not packed full the way I used to eat and Core is no exception to that. this is why I realized that I had better owe up to that and stick to my points . I'll start that food quantity abuse all over again if I stick with Core. I can see myself slipping after Tuesday and I recognized that REAL fast!
I am bad with sweets. I have to keep the baked goods out of my house. I also can not have tortilla chips in the house. I love them!!! Thankgoodness for the baked ones.
I am a newbie. I joined ww 2 weeks ago. I joined NOW because I didnt want to gain all of the holiday weight, and I am proud to say that I have lost 3 lbs so far.
I didnt and dont have expectations to lose a whole lot during the holiday season, but I am now very aware of what I am consuming, and I just dont want to GAIN.
I intend to go full speed the first of the year! I hope I have company for this battle!
For me, my trigger foods are simply large quantities of ANYTHING really.. I'm a "finisher" and have some deep need to finish whatever is on my plate.. Same with "in bag", etc.
As for specific TYPES of food, I don't really have a type. I'm not too big into sweet things or "snack food", really. My primary reason for becoming fat, I believe, is the culmination of 4 major factors:
1. Sedentary Job w/ not much physical activity on the side
2. Eating too many starches, namely RICE with almost all my home-made dinners
3. Adding too much oil when cooking aforementioned dinners.. I LOVE onion in nearly EVERYTHING, cooked in it and raw on it, but when I would fry the onion for the main dishes, I would use a lot of oil, so it was a lot of added oil in soups, entrees, etc. as well as sometimes I would make french fries deep fried.. (okay, that's one thing I really couldn't resist!)
4. My need to 'finish' and consume large quantities of food simply out of boredom..
So, I think sometimes it doesn't have to be a TYPE of food but more of a mind-set like "finishing"..
To combat this I like the mini 'snack-sized' portions like the '100 calorie snack packs' as well as little teensy-tiny serving dishes/bowls like the japanese sushi plates and small rice bowls. I also try and use measuring cups, etc. because my eyes are ALWAYS bigger than my stomach and I'll STILL end up eating past my satisfaction and/or FULL point..
But, if I had to name ONE trigger food, it would be home-made french fries, fried until crispy. (especially the extra thin slivers which are extra bad for you because more of the surface is exposed to the oil)
My problem is not trigger foods. It is more, if I slip up and don't write something down and point it out- say a cookie, I'll have one, then another one- and then when I get to three I get the "screw it" mentality and just eat ANYTHING and everything. The food that I slip up on can be anything from cheese to ice cream. Thankfully, I am getting out of that habit and being accountable for EVERYTHING I put in my mouth!
I am very similar to caitbeans...I can OD on anything if in the wrong mood Have a terrible "All or Nothing" mentality that I need to break and am working on. So I am very careful on checking all the points, writing everything down and working special things into my day. It is more of a emotional need for me and I have to address that so I don't overdo!
I'm in the same boat as caitbeans and Patty575...I am working on my all or nothing mentality. My foods are cereal, baked chips, skinny cow pb & chocolate ic sanwiches, peanut butter, wheat thins, and ice cream. I will serve myself a serving and just keep going back and forth to the kitchen to get more. Not good.
homemade cakes and cookies. I only bake cookies at Xmas time. I'm already getting sad watching the little guys disappearing for another year. I bake cakes for family events and such where I can have a piece and leave the rest for some other poor sucker to munch on...callous... Also, I love Harry & David moose munch, also something I only buy at Xmas, it too has disappeared for the year ha ha, I'm actually feeling good about getting back to my old healthy habits, but those are my triggers!
Wishes, I love a leg of lamb.. We only have it twice a year, so I stuff myself with it, not to mention the 1/2 bottle of mint sauce i poor all over it!!!!! Yummmmmmmmmmm!!!! My hubby makes this homemade caramel cake that I swear calls my name.. I know if I even taste it I will eat half of it
