Momentum/Flexers NSVs (non-scale victories)

:cp: Here's a thread to toot our own horns regarding any successes we've had on our weight loss journey that has nothing to do with the scales. Big or small success, do tell! Don't be shy. Wag your own tail, and share what's happened that makes you say WOOHOO, and want to do a little dance.:carrot:

Personally, my latest NSV was when I tossed all the toxic holiday goodies down the garbage disposal. A feeling of control crept into my body as I did that, and a big smile settled on my face. :D

What about you? What's your latest NSV?

Bloomer 12-28-2007 08:25 PM

Good for you!!! I wish I had your moral fiber :) I didn't get many holiday goodies this year, but I did eat some of them (gave the rest away).

I think this is an NSV. One of my biggest challenges is mindless snacking, aided and abetted by The Candy Machine in the Basement of my apartment building. For two days I haven't gone near it.

Miss Alex 12-29-2007 12:50 AM

I've started making much better choices whenever I eat out or eat at a friends' place. Even if I'm not immediately able to figure up points, I can usually determine that I'm not eating anything extremely detrimental to my daily total. Really helped during the holidays.

Jane 12-29-2007 12:02 PM

Woo hoo to you both! The little things add up to success. :cp:

Misery Chick 12-29-2007 01:55 PM

My NSV this week would have to be getting through the holidays without totally pigging out...that makes me very happy and I can feel the real changes happening on the inside...It might not reflect on the scale as of yet, but just knowing the changes are starting to happen are very encouraging...

kelijpa 12-29-2007 02:05 PM

My measurements have been NSVs that help me through when the scale is sluggish, also how my pants fit.

Wearing large vs. x-large is an NSV.

Today, we're having a thaw, so I was clearing out a small ditch behind my house to keep the water flowing away from the house and I was thinking that I love how now when I do something like that it doesn't totally wipe me out and I'll still go for my walk later. It's just great to feel strong.

diet diva 01-24-2008 10:56 PM

Someone I hadn't seen in quite a while noticed that I was losing weight!!!
3 months and 15 pounds and someine noticed WOOHOO!!!!

Jane 01-25-2008 10:15 AM

A big YAY to all 3 of you! :cp: These things make us feel so good, and gives us encouragement, don't they?

Paintfancy 01-25-2008 04:23 PM

I've had two NSVs this week. The first one was on Wednesday. I made it through three consecutive days worth of workouts without holding onto the treadmill. I could really tell what a difference it was making by Wednesday afternoon. I was able to move more and lift my legs higher. I had more energy too!

Then last night I was teaching dance class and two of my students mentioned my weight loss. One said he really noticed it in my face, which is where I notice the most change right now also. Woohooo!

kelijpa 01-26-2008 07:54 PM

How great, Paint!

I've tracked all week, finally got all my water in today!! Had been struggling with that again, lately...

Jane 02-01-2008 09:20 AM

YAY, ladies! :cp:

Last night, DH and I ate at a club, and the meal is served to you. They never, ever have dessert. But last night, they gave everyone a delicious-looking cupcake that one of the members had just baked for everyone. I handed mine over to DH immediately, so I wouldn't be tempted to eat it. Just a small thing, but still. :)

suitejudyblueeyes 02-01-2008 10:50 AM

Yay, Jane! Not feeling like you have to eat everything handed to you is HUGE. WTG on that victory!

My wedding ring isn't loose by any means, but it no longer leaves a huge red band underneath it on my finger. Like, when I take it off, there's barely an indentation there anymore :D

kelijpa 02-05-2008 08:05 PM

Went to the chinese buffet for MIL's bday and DH and I ordered off the menu, we split shrimp and broccolli. It was great and didn't end up feeling like a stuffed sausage at the end of the meal!! :sunny:

LizzieW 02-08-2008 08:17 PM

Yay for having the loss noticed, getting the water in, handing over cake, non-binding (lol) wedding rings, and shared meals! All of that is stuff to :carrot: about!

My NSV -- I've stuck around long enough to get my sig back! Woo!

suitejudyblueeyes 02-08-2008 09:55 PM

 YAY!

dwnloom 02-12-2008 12:40 PM

First time posting in this thread so here goes.

We have been walking in the morning and the evening 35 out of 43 days. My pants are getting loose. I am feeling so much better. I can really tell when I'm eating right and when I'm not. I went out to eat and asked for a nutritional values printout. I was able to order something that I really liked and know that it was on program, chicken fajitas, yum!! I have been able to find a lot of low cal/low fat substitutes, so I havent felt deprived. I have been drinking my water every day. Oh, Last and most important thing for me....I worked out even when Alan was out of town...Previously, I wouldnt have do it. Not even thought about it. So, those are my nsv's Jan 1 - Feb 12.

What a great thread. It really makes you think about something other than the scale.

Thanks,

Dawn

kelijpa 02-12-2008 09:16 PM

Excellent, Dawn! Congrats on your NSVs.

I live for my NSVs, they are a huge part of my program. The scale drives me nuts sometimes, but I'm addicted to it, too :D

suitejudyblueeyes 02-13-2008 09:14 AM

Dawn, those are excellent NSVs!!! And so many at once!! :D :D :congrat:

freedomreins 02-17-2008 06:50 PM

Well done guys! Seeing your NSVs makes me pay more attention to my own.

Like today, I was feeling tired because I've been reading all day long for school and hadn't even been out of the house and generally didn't feel like exercising. I had accepted the fact that I wouldn't get to it today, and would just do a bit more work tomorrow instead. But I saw my stepper in the corner and I suddenly decided that there was no way I'd be better off not doing it, and even did 100 steps more than I usually do because I was feeling so good about making the right choice! (Usually aim for 2000 these days). I'm pretty sure I won't be seeing a loss on the scale tomorrow, but actually choosing to do my stepper when I'm feeling lazy is a big step for me!

LizzieW 02-18-2008 06:11 PM

Yay for Dawn and freedom's NSVs!!

After last week's stall, and Valentine's this week, I cheated and checked yesterday: looks like I'm still stalling. So, I went back and looked at what was different the first few weeks when I was losing like a...weight-loser :D, and I've found that my veggie intake is way down. Also, I must be STRINGENT about only one "fun" night: not two, not three (even if I'm okay with FPs), just ONE! And the exercise was not happening, either.

So the last couple of days I've re-doubled my efforts: made SURE all those veggies and 1-points snacks were in the fridge, ready to eat, and yesterday I went horseback riding and today got on the treadmill.

I don't know what the scale will say tomorrow, but I needed an NSV, so I got out my measurements from the day I started, and lo! I've lost 2 1/2 inches off my waist! That really gives me a boost! :carrot:

freedomreins 02-18-2008 07:00 PM

That's fantastic Lizzie!! I also need to up my veggie and fruit content. I am going to the grocery store tomorrow and think I will get some dried cranberries to put in my oatmeal in the morning and some frozen vegetables. I always buy fresh, but they either go off or I'm just not in the mood for them and so go and buy a different vegetable instead. If I keep my usuals frozen I think that might help! My weight loss seems to have stalled for the last few weeks, and I ate more vegetables when I first started out too. I hope I am successful as you have been!

suitejudyblueeyes 02-20-2008 08:19 AM

WTG Lizzie! Horseback riding sounds awesome. Last time I tried to get on a horse I boosted myself up on one side and slid right off on the other side. When I finally got on no one wanted to ride behind me because my horse was very... er... gaseous. Haven't been on a horse since

My NSV for today comes from this morning. I was laying in bed stretching before getting up, and I put my hands on my ribcage-area. While I was stretching I could feel my abs contracting, it was so neat! They're getting far harder, and it feels really bizarre! Same with last night when I was getting ready for bed, I put my hand on my outer thigh and had a little 'what the?...' moment when I felt a bump there that has NEVER, EVER been there before. I put my other hand on my other leg and I have one over there too, so I suppose that's a muscle. Yay muscle! Yay faster resting metabolism! :D

Fressca 02-20-2008 04:25 PM

I went to a WW meeting today feeling blue because of how long it's taking to get rid of all this excess poundage, and what were we talking about? Non-scale victories. I think I haven't been paying enough attention to these, I'm too focused on the scale. So... here are some things I've noticed:

My riding boots don't pinch anymore
My breeches are definitely less tight
Getting off the horse is less painful (!)
My spin class is also less painful!
I did a 2-hour aerobics class on Saturday (heart & stroke fundraiser) and I don't *think* I made an *ss of myself

Okay, I feel better now - keep posting NSVs, everyone; it's inspiring.

freedomreins 03-06-2008 04:32 PM

Today I was sitting in class, and the hand I wasn't writing with was cold, so I put it between my thighs, as you do, you know, and I found that there was a big gap there that didn't used to be there when I had my knees pressed together! I know that sounds so random but my thighs have gotten smaller! lol :D

shrinkinglizzy 03-08-2008 12:55 PM

Freedom -- I love that gap! The same thing happened to me recently, and I considered posting a thread about the benefits of the extra blubber (ie, makes better hand warmers!) but that felt a little too...er, unmotivating, I guess! Gloves work well, too, and I'd rather those than thigh fat to warm my chilly paws!

Anyway, I've had a lot of NSVs lately and that's pretty much all I've got to go on:
people finally started noticing!

i wore "the jeans," you know, the jeans...though now they're not goal jeans but intermediate goal jeans. Regardless, I couldn't pull them up ten pounds ago!

I have stuck to my plan!

S

freedomreins 03-10-2008 09:19 PM

Awesome shrinkinglizzy! That is so great! Congrats!

kelijpa 03-19-2008 07:26 PM

Great job guys, I feel a little silly sometimes when I'm out for my walk, especially coming up hill, I look down at my thighs and can't believe how much smaller they've gotten, it's like a baby fascinated by their hand, lol :D

Another NSV, when I was in AZ, DH and I hiked the rim trail at the Grand Canyon, it felt so great to be able to keep going and see the changes in the view, I ended up with 8 miles on the pedometer that day and 7.5 the next day at Lee's Ferry, I hiked up this trail on the side of a mountain, it was awesome, so great to be able to do that.

Thank heavens for NSVs 'cause I didn't have the SVs this week :D

betty grrl 04-01-2008 11:49 PM

My NSV has to be that for almost a month I've been going to the gym (and actually making the effort) and taking my dog and my mom's dog to the off-leash park so I can walk and the dogs can run!!!!

suitejudyblueeyes 04-04-2008 08:33 AM

Finally another NSV for me!

My belts have all kind of been a little too big on the notch I've been wearing them at, but not big enough to comfortably slip into the next one down. This morning I definitely put on my belt and didn't realize until a few minutes later that it just decided the next one down was where it was comfortable. (Yes, the belt decided this.) I was very excited to discover this this morning, I'm definitely officially another belt notch down! I'm on the last notch on one belt (it will soon have to be retired), and on another one I'm on the one I got down to last time I was on WW. So everything after this is uncharted territory. Yay! :D :D :woohoo:

Lovely 04-04-2008 08:39 AM

Yahoo Suite! :woohoo: You're at the edge of a brand new world :D

dwnloom 04-04-2008 09:29 AM

Wooohoooo!!! Way to go Suite. That is great. :carrot::carrot::carrot:

Onto smaller and better things:D

mamabear272 04-04-2008 10:35 AM

I have a major NSV to report. My dh, dd, and dd's bf were in a serious car accident Wednesday. Everyone's ok now but where I would have totally went off plan and eaten whatever, sending myself into a tailspin never to recover, I made really good choices and stayed within points for the most part. I went over by a couple but I have WPA's for that. Here's a big example: when dh and I were coming home Wed night, we dropped off his prescriptions and went to get something to eat. Don't you know a BK chicken sandwich with cheese and fries with mayo sounded soo good? Instead I chose Subway and got a 6 in. turkey on wheat with no cheese or dressing and lots of veggies! I have not wavered at all and with all the stress (dd's bf is still in the hosp for observation) I've done so well!

When I rejoined, our leader had a quote up on the board that really struck me...it's the one in my siggy..."don't exchange what you want most for what you want at the moment." I've kept that in the back of my head all week and especially through all of this! :woohoo: Go me!! lol

Lovely 04-04-2008 11:01 AM

Mama - I'm sorry to hear about the accident. Glad that everyone is okay. And VERY excited for you that you made such good choices during this trying time.

Institches21 04-04-2008 12:48 PM

Suite- so Happy for you :congrat:, enjoy your sucess, great NSV for you, and good luck at WI. :carrot:

Institches21 04-04-2008 12:57 PM

Mama I'm so glad to hear everyone is okay, and hopefully will be released from the hospital soon.

Awesome, not only were you able to make great choices, you also stuck with them, in spite of your cravings. Great Job! :carrot:

I love that quote, thanks for sharing it ;)

mamabear272 04-04-2008 08:18 PM

Thanks for the kudos everyone! JR (the boyfriend) is home now too. His MRI was fine. Thanks also for the well wishes!

shrinkinglizzy 04-05-2008 10:05 AM

Wow, Molly, that is scary!! But way to go, staying OP!!! And thank god everyone is OK.

vdaybaby 04-05-2008 04:03 PM

OKAY...I finally have a Non Scale Victory!
Last night, I got home at 2am and was drunk (the alcohol was planned into my points).
Anyways, I was really hungry, and usually when I am drunk I eat anything.
But instead, since I was out of points, I just ate a BUNCH of carrots.
