20 lbs does make a difference (pics)

As someone with a total of 165 lbs to get off, I didn't expect to see ANY changes at my first 20. I was thinking it would be a drop in the ocean. I was pleasantly surprised to notice a subtle difference. I hope this motivates other people who are in the 100+ lbs to lose boat. Taking that before photo was SO HARD but I'm glad it did. I am re-motivated this morning.

Hope you all have a great and on track week!!

Hi Jolly,

You're reading my mind! I was just thinking that I can't "feel" when I'm losing weight and I ASSUMED that I can't see it either. I have a bit over 100 pounds to lose and have lost 6 but weigh tomorrow. This is really motivating. My physician's office took a before and I think I shut my eyes! What I notice about your picture is you are smaller all over. This is really fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing.

penmage 02-03-2013 10:10 AM

Definitely a difference, way to go!

Misti in Seattle 02-03-2013 10:18 AM

Oh wow, look at that missing stomach in the second photo! Good job! :congrat:

pinkflakes 02-03-2013 10:47 AM

looking great! Keep up the good work :)

kaebaka 02-03-2013 10:47 AM

First off, you're right! Even for what might seem like a small fraction of your total goal, you've definitely made visible progress! Hurray for being less lumpy!

Have you been taking measurements too? I bet that would be another good way for you to be able to see your progress, since it looks like you've lost several inches already!

And second, hi to a fellow Iowan! I just moved to Boston from Ames. :)

hopebewild 02-03-2013 10:58 AM

Lookin good! Congrats!

CanadianCutie 02-03-2013 11:16 AM

Wow! You're doing great.

JollyGreenSteen19 02-03-2013 11:24 AM

Thanks all. I feel so much more symmetrical. Haha. And "lifted" :). I'm going to be doing this about 7 more times, so woo!! I've always been such a big and tall girl, thought I was going to have to drop 40 or 50 before anyone would notice.

I've tried to take measurements. I always forget. I know that would be a great motivator too. Sometimes I don't feel like what the scale says reflects what is really going on.

PS Sorry I meant to post this in the pics forum, that's where I thought I was *.*

1987 02-03-2013 12:41 PM

Congrats on your progress so far! :D

Tai 02-03-2013 01:12 PM

Congratulations on your loss! Twenty pounds makes a wonderful difference. I can really see it in your waist and hips.

just keep swimming 02-03-2013 01:17 PM

The difference is incredible! Way to go! :D

betsy2013 02-03-2013 01:28 PM

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting these pictures. Although I can feel that there's a difference after my 20 pound loss (and I have over 200 to lose, so I know what you mean about being able to tell a difference), my pictures this month versus last month didn't really show much difference. Of course, one set was taken with a loose blouse and slacks and one with a leotard so that may have made some difference!

Keep posting -- it keeps us all motivated!

summerkate83 02-03-2013 01:31 PM

your arms look way smaller in the second photo-you're doing great!!

theox 02-03-2013 01:31 PM

Yay! Good job! :carrot::carrot::carrot:

Mozzy 02-03-2013 01:32 PM

I'd recommend taking the same photos in the same outfit if possible! Save the leotard for the upcoming month. It's easier to appreciate the difference, which can be subtle with just some tightening in your hips/stomach etc. The more skin clad the better, unfortunately, lol :o. You're doing such a good job!!! It's hard to lose so much weight but I'm glad we're starting now. Baby steps, baby steps!!!

Also if you have any pairs of pants/shirts you've outgrown... be sure to try them all on now and then again in six months. To me, there are a few milestones I look forward to on the scale (under 300 and 200, the first 100 lbs lost) but it's void of meaning. No one but the doctor will look at my weight. I don't have my mind fixed on an exact number (184 for me is a BMI of "normal" by the skin of my teeth), I mostly want to fit into amusement park rides, airplane seats, movie theatre seats, size 10 jeans, etc. And I want to look good and have nice clothes :) And I want to not be terrified when I'm walking with someone and they want to take two flights of stairs instead of the elevator :D

So anyways thanks everyone for the compliments, it's made my day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kaebaka - Hey fellow Iowan - that's awesome you're from Ames!!! I used to live there, I got my bach from ISU in 2011. :) It's the best city, so lovely and exciting, I wish I could move back. Must be interesting moving to the east coast though. I think that would be a culture shock for me. Haha.

oneyear 02-03-2013 02:20 PM

You have done great! I can really see a change.

the shiv 02-03-2013 03:15 PM

Great job, you can really see a difference! I'm so glad I took before photos too as I'm on my way to my first 20lbs and want to do the same thing. I did more photos at my first half stone and saw a tiny difference in my waist, so I'm hoping at 20 it'll be much more noticeable! It's great encouragement when you're at the beginning of the journey if your smaller clothes don't fit yet (which mine don't... argh!) ;)

bethFromDayton 02-03-2013 03:24 PM

Thanks for sharing--it really does show--your hard work is paying off!

immaculate 02-03-2013 03:43 PM

I don't think the difference is subtle at all! Amazing job so far!

lolloveschocolate 02-03-2013 04:48 PM

Wow. Well done to you. Breaking overall goals up really helps. At the moment I just wanna lose 14 lbs before I turn 40.

Avezy44 02-03-2013 04:54 PM

That's Awesome!!! You go girly! I have lost 11 and put on the shirt I was wearing on my profile at 274 and it actually fits the way its supposed to now. I love it! Definitely motivational :)

Megan33 02-03-2013 05:07 PM

Wow!! Difference in your face and stomach!! Congrats and keep goin'!!

elvislover324 02-03-2013 05:20 PM

kaelah 02-03-2013 05:30 PM

I can definitely see a difference! Congrats and keep it up! And I really love the tank you are wearing.

mnckrstn0 02-03-2013 07:33 PM

I think the biggest difference is in the shape of your face! You look great, congrats on the first 20!!

HelloNurse 02-03-2013 07:50 PM

Great job! You look beautiful.

RavenWolf 02-03-2013 08:25 PM

Wow! 20 pounds totally shows! You lost all over and it's wonderful! I didn't think 20 pounds could make that much of a difference! I'm at 13 lost, and hope I see such a great difference when I hit 20!

Thank you so much for sharing these pictures! It is so motivating to see the progress of others, and makes me even more commited to pushing on!

Way to go, and can't wait to see when you post your "30 pounds lost" pics for comparison! :D

Keep up the amazing work!

Fatness 02-03-2013 08:34 PM

you go girl! keep up the good work!

ControlW 02-04-2013 01:09 AM

At first, I thought, in the first set of pictures, that your arm from the second picture was not flexing but rather had entered the frame of the first picture and was holding the camera. Which made me laugh.

But past that, way to go. Well begun is half done!

hatgirlie 02-04-2013 02:52 AM

It's working! :)

SCStxRN 02-04-2013 04:31 AM

Looking good! I wasn't feeling much difference, although my coworkers mentioned it - and then I went to Walmart and found a 20 pound bag of dog food. By the time I carried it over to the grocery side and back, I was looking for a bench... which is pretty much where I used to stay. So yeah, it's a difference.

Babybat 02-04-2013 05:50 AM

what a difference!
you look great keep it up girl :D

20lbs is a lot you should be proud
I'm noticing a difference too (I thought my mind was playing tricks on me maybe? lol guess it wasn't.

stunningsparkle 02-04-2013 10:19 PM

Great job! What have you been doing to help you lose the weight? :)

skintoskincombat 02-05-2013 01:50 PM

I see a HUGE difference! Great job! Your got a beautiful face btw! You're gonna be a knock out :)

reanbean 02-06-2013 09:02 AM

You're looking great Courtney! Keep up the good work! 20 pounds IS a lot! I like to imagine what five pounds of fat looks like in my hands:
http://www.altus.af.mil/shared/media...-SL200-011.JPG

And if you multiply that by 4, holy cow! You've lost a lot of weight, and should feel really good about that! :)

JollyGreenSteen19 02-06-2013 07:00 PM

That is amazing to see how big 5 lbs of fat is!!!

I've lost the weight through weight watchers and exercise - mostly a little cardio a few times a week, but it's been picking up lately!

epicskyline 02-07-2013 01:58 AM

I don't think that's a "subtle" difference at all. You can DEFINITELY see it. You look great! Keep going and keep documenting your journey to watch the weight melt off.
