My Weight Loss So Far...

  • My weight when I started 9 weeks ago was 258lbs and this morning I reached 238lbs. My mini-goal I set for myself was to reach 230lbs by the end of October. No particular reason, I just thought it would be enough time to lose the weight slowly and safely. Being that I am only 8lbs away from my mini-goal and it is only July, I'm getting worried that I am losing weight too fast. I had lost weight fast before and had gained it all back. So I'm happy and worried at the same time.
  • 20 pounds in 9 weeks is still pretty close to the recommended 2 pounds per week maximum. I think if you keep focused on good habits, you won't need to worry too much about gaining it all back just from losing quickly.

And congratulations on your progress so far!
  • Just my opinion, but as long as you're losing weight by following a healthy diet and exercise plan, I don't see a problem.

They say that 1-2 lbs a week is considered just fine. So that puts you at just over 2 lbs/week. Assuming you're like most of us, you probably dropped 5 or 6 lbs your first week. Making you're average weekly loss less than 2 lbs. Sounds to me like you're doing great.
  • I worry too, but I don't think you should

People often lose quickly when they start. I don't think the risk of regain is greater when you lose quickly. It's just that quick-fix mindset can often lead to failure. You don't have that mindset, so you should be fine.

She could not have stated it better. It is a mental thing. As long as you are not starving yourself or taking extreme measures to lose weight the 2+ lbs/week won't hurt. In fact, someone just posted an interesting regarding maintenance after weight loss and they stated that people who lose it faster were less likely to gain it back. Now there are several factors in weight loss and I am just reporting what the article said.
  • I too agree with Zoodoo! If we are in it for the longhaul then we will keep at it. As mentioned prior, if we lose because we are eating healthy and exercise then there is no reason, besides stopping, that we would gain it back. (unless there are some health issues/medication issues)

Awesome work! Keep movin' and you won't have any issues!!
  • Not too fast at all and remember it will start to slow down a little. Congrats and keep up the good work!
  • I agree with the other posters, you're doing fantastic and if you stay focused your golden. Congrats.
  • Thank you all for the support. I think I may be worried because I had lost 80lbs in 5 months a few years ago and then had gained most of it back. I do feel much better about how I lost the weight so far this time around.
  • Well, I reached my mini goal of 230lbs a couple of weeks ago!! Currently weigh 226lbs! Only 31lbs to go to reach my overall goal!
  • Hi, I share your worries, but some of the comments here are helped alleviate those. I lost about four pounds this week, and although that amount seems a big excessive to me, I'm guessing that it will regulate to 1 - 2 pounds once I get into the habit of my new diet / exercise. I'm not taking drastic measures or anything. But yes, I hope that everyone is right and that this a beginner thing!
