Default Looking for info re: nursing/breastfeeding plan

Hi all,

I had great success with MRC last year, losing almost 40 pounds. Then I got pregnant (happily) one week into stabilization. I managed to keep things in check until the second trimester, when I really packed on the pounds. I'm horrified that I gained about 50 pounds with this pregnancy, but it's too late to look backwards. Long story short, I'm only 5 pounds or so less than when I started MRC the first time Luckily I still remember how good it felt to be thin and I'm ready to jump back on board.

Does anyone have any experience with MRC's nursing menu? I've heard it is higher calorie and includes dairy. I plan to go to my center this week and see if they are running any specials, but it would help to have more info about the menu before spending the money. I'm assuming I would not take any of the supplements or HNS?

I appreciate any information any of you may have, and look forward to reconnecting w/ the 3FC community!

Kim

I asked the La Leche League about this program while I was still nursing my youngest son.You should not do this program if you are breastfeeding. One you are not consuming enough calories to support your milk supply and also the herbs are not safe to take while breastfeeding. If you are looking for a way to lose weight while still breastfeeding you can go to WW. They have a program designed for nursing moms. You can do that until you are done nursing. Then start MRC. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. I've heard that MRC does have a menu designed for BF women but I would want to make sure it has enough calories. I've read that 1800 is the bare minimum and many women need more. Is that what LLL told you?

Hi Beth--I wasn't able to send you a PM. Some error message about you not being able to receive them. Maybe you have to change your user settings? I have soooo many questions for you Maybe you can send me a PM or change your settings? Thanks!

What LLL told me was not to consume anything with artificial sweeteners and not to take any herb vitamins without my DRs OK. also calorie content need to be at least 1800. Your body burns a lot of calories just by breastfeeding. One needs to keep those calories up to provide a stable milk supply to the baby. It by all means is a personal choice how and when to go on a weight loss program. I myself was in no rush I figured it took me 9months too put it on I could take 9 more months to take it off.

So I have 3 snacks a day and 3 meals. I am eating TONS of veggies, protein. I asked with a serious face...WHAT IS THIS??? A 2000 calorie diet??? And the MRC lady said yes. WOW...I have not been able to eat nearly everything I should be. 12oz of cooked and 8 oz raw at dinner of veggies...do you know how much that is??

I really thought breastfeeding alone would help the weight come off. Not that I expected it to come off fast, but since an initial loss of 20 lbs in the first month I haven't lost a pound since! And my baby is almost 4 months It was the same w/ my first child who was formula fed. I guess I'm just one of those lucky women who hold onto the baby weight!

Yes, thanks to my food scale I know exactly how much that is! Wow. Do you know if you'll move on to a new menu in a few days? On the regular plan there is a progression of menus, and I remember having to eat something like 8 oz raw vegs and 4 oz cooked at dinner. Then once you get on the regular menu it drops to 8 oz raw OR 4 oz cooked at lunch and dinner. Remember to use heavier raw veggies (cucumbers, grape tomatoes, green peppers, etc.) so you're not so overwhelmed by the amount. Did they push any of the pills or protein supplements on you?

Beth, I'd love to see a copy of the menu if you'd be willing to send it to me. I can give you copies of the regular menus if you're interested in using them later on. My email is kimberlyrickardATgmail.com if you want to trade.
