Balance bars?

Is anyone else using Balance bars instead of MRC bars? I found them the other day, seem to fall between the Chocolate mint bars and the Chocolate wafer bars that I like from MRC as far as nutrition info. I bought a box, 6 bars for under $5.50, but haven't tried yet.

I was told by my counselor that I should only have 2 wafers a week... if I ate more than that I would probably gain weight... just an fyi.

THAT is so good to know! I just tried my first wafers (the vanilla) this past weekend and really liked them. I thought they were quite hearty. When I bought them, the counselor made the comment that those got her in trouble when she was on the plan...I kind of wondered, but not enough to ask why. I'm trying to only use the bars when I know eating well will be inconvenient. They could just be way to easy to use daily and it is so much like eating a snack cake, candy bar, or cookie. Mentally - I'm probably better off trying to eat 'real food' as often as possible at each meal.

I love the choc. wafers.....and then seperate the layers into 3 makes them last just a little longer....yummy!

Brilliant! I was struck by how thick they are...taking them apart would make them easier to eat.

I haven't tried them yet... I know, strange...

Since I'm on maintenance, I can have them more often during the week. Some weeks are busier than others, and I'll eat for a quick breakfast.

I'm traveling tomorrow, so maybe I'll have one for breakfast, as I can wait until I get to the airport to eat it. I'll update as to how it was.

Dark chocolate crunch was good! Now I'll have to check the other favors they have available.

All the balance bars have a lot of high carbs, the vanilla wafer bars from MRC only have 6.5 g each, the double choc crunch from balance bars have 20g, that's a lot if you are following the MRC plan.

MarleneV 10-28-2013 11:29 PM

Ok... Comparison:
MRC chocolate mint bar - 150 calories, 40 from fat. Total fat 4.5g, carbs 21g, fiber 4g, sugars 12g, protein 10g
MRC choc wafer bar - 210 calories, 90 from fat. Total fat 9g, carbs 13g, fiber 1, sugars 5, protein 15g
Balance Dark Chocolate crunch - 180 calories, 60 from fat. Total fat 6g, carbs 20g, fiber 4g, sugars 12g, protein 13g.

I don't have a box of the vanilla wafer bars to get this info on. But, comparing the ones I have, I'm willing to interchange these based on these numbers. Don't get me wrong, I like the MRC bars, but since I have to get them shipped to me (unless I happen to go visit my mom, which I only get to do once or twice a year), and can't ship in the summer because they may melt, I think the Balance bar is a decent substitute.

Oh ok, I've only gotten the vanilla wafer bars, from MRC. I don't use them much any more but they are all about low carb so I was curious as to why they would have bars that are so high in carbs. Thanks

MRC is low carb and low fat and the fat content is higher on the balance bars than on the MRC bars. The higher carb content in the wafer bars is why they say we should limit them to twice a week.

I found a new bar (my husband carries protein bars with him for blood sugar reasons and is always looking for low carb options) and it's called Life Choice Protein Bar.
Calories 190, from fat 40, Total fat 4.5g, carbs 16g, fiber 2g, sugars 8g, and protein 21g.

I am pretty impressed with them. Taste great too with protein source mainly whey. I try to stay away from soy.

I found them at Walmart in the breakfast foods aisle and a box of 6 was less than $4.

Good to know there are other protein bars out there that are cheaper. I tend to go with atkins bars because of the low carbs. They aren't my friend. LOL

The Life Choice bars I found actually taste good...not all medicin-y like some. I was impressed with the protein to carb ratio. I'm not a huge fan of the bars in general but lets face it...full time work, two teens, a tween, and full time working husband...my reality is I need the bars a couple times per week :)
