So I am 18 years old, and as a graduation gift to myself I decided to join Metabolic Research Center so I can gain self confidence! I weighed in at 204, and after pre-conditioning, which I just finished yesterday, I weighed 199! I have a couple questions though!
1.) Tonight, I am attending a graduation party, and am planning on eating dinner there. My day 1-4 menu says that for dinner I can have 4 oz of chicken, turkey, fish or beef, 4 oz of cooked veggies, and 4 oz of raw veggies. Any tips on party's like this. I want to be able to fit in with my friends...And I'm assuming sweets are out of the question as well??
2.) In 2 weeks, I will be attending musical theatre camp. The food there is like any other camp that is for 12-18 year olds (chicken strips, mashed potatoes, french fries, etc.) They also have a salad bar. I will be able to bring my multi-vitamin, fish oil, and HNS with me, but not any food. It isn't allowed because there is no fridge to use, and the camp is in the middle of the woods. Any suggestions on how to survive this week? It's my favorite week of the entire year, and I don't want it to be no fun because I'll be worrying about food all the time.
3.) In the weeks to come, will there be more freedom within the menus to try recipes and such?
4.) Will I ever get to enjoy ice cream with my friends every once and awhile, or is it out of the question??
Thanks everyone for the help! I'M READY TO CHANGE!!
Welcome! I applaud you for being so proactive at such a young age. I weighed what you weigh when I was 18 and it's taken me until I'm 28 to do something about it. It's a hard time of life to do a diet like this because you have so much going on, but keep reminding yourself that a 4-5 month investment now will save you YEARS of struggling later.
I've replied below...

Since you're still getting used to portion sizes on this diet, just go for less rather than more and try as hard as you can. 24 weeks is a long time, so since you're just starting I would recommend you don't eat anything deliberately wrong, no sweets, no big slice of cake, no alcohol, just do what you can. If you eat a red bell pepper instead of a green one, it won't impact you in the long run. But if you let a party be an excuse to go all out, that kind of thinking absolutely will hurt you. As for fitting in with friends, keep a big glass of water in your hand so you're not just standing around and most parties are people wandering and snacking, so most people probably won't notice you're snacking less

How long is the summer camp? If you have a salad bar for lunch and dinner, you'll probably be able to get away with cottage cheese and veggies for your protein and vegetables. If they have chicken strips, you can try to cut off the breading so you can eat 4oz of the white meat inside since it's just plain chicken. For breakfast, you'll probably have the option of eggs most mornings, so just stay away from the stuff you absolutely know is wrong (pancakes, pasta, sweets, cereals) and do the best you can. It's hard to find a 24 week span that doesn't have something going on that's going to challenge your diet. I went to Peru for 10 days about 1/3 of my way through MRC and I took the fat and carb blocker a lot, and didn't deliberately eat off plan, but did the best I could with what was available to me and still lost 3 pounds. Max out those HNS's and drink as much water as you possibly can to reduce the impact of slightly unavoidable offplan eating.

In short, no. But you will learn to fix chicken 10 different ways so you *think* there's more freedom. You'll be able to try different recipes and fix on plan foods as many ways you can think of and eventually you'll get the hang of it and it won't seem so boring.

To stay on plan, that would be out of the question. Think of non-food activities you can do with your friends like going to the movies or getting a pedicure. You'll be surprised how fast the time goes and before you know it, you'll be done with the program and you'll be able to have ice cream again so long as you don't also splurge on 3 other high calorie things that same day
Hi Mtgal. You picked a difficult time to start, but I know you can do it. I just wanted to add that if you can bring them, the tuna in the packs are easy to carry, have individual servings and don't need refridgerated.
Concentrate on having fun and your friends and not on what you can, or can't have.
Few comments:
1) at parties instead of desserts, you might try a cup of decaf coffee or tea.
2) at camp, you might bring MRC bars, the Redi-to Drink shakes - chocolate is best I think, or some of the delicious dry puddings & shakes that you mix with water. That could help with a few meals.
3) when you're done with your plan and out with your pals, you might try fruit sorbets and lite frozen yogurt. Those are yummy and lots less calories, fat and sugar.
Best of luck - you are worth it and you will be happy sticking with your plan.
