What happened to the pudding???

I needed chocolate pudding so I bought a box yesterday. I'd been waiting for it all day. I noticed new packaging on the box, but my center has been phasing in all of the new packaging on everything. Anyway, the pudding is so GROSS. There has to be something different in the way they make it because it does not taste the same. I also got a bit of the dry powder mix on the counter and went to wipe it up with a damp cloth and some of the specks in the pudding turned green. What's up with that? Anyone know?

annie175 09-22-2009 09:07 AM

Yikes...sounds like rat poison. LOL

Joy2MeNu 09-22-2009 09:07 AM

lovely! haven't tried it yet, and with this information I likely won't. I love chocoloate way too much to experience an all out assault on it!

lookinfine09 09-22-2009 09:16 AM

I should clarify....I have had chocolate pudding almost every single day of my 150 days on program and loved how it tasted every single time. I don't know if I got a bad box or what...just curious if anyone else has experienced this. Maybe my tastebuds are on a vacation?

noahsmama 09-22-2009 09:43 AM

No, you're not crazy! I had it for the first time last week and posted it one of the other threads that I thought it was disgusting!! ARGH! I so look forward to it and tried it again last night cold even (I usually warm my up) and ICK ICK ICK! I too noticed the green/blue color in my white bowl. What's up with that?! I'm thoroughly dissappointed that's all I can say!

leahruthie 09-22-2009 09:56 AM

man i hope that doesn't happen to ALL the products as they phase over... eek!! i don't know what i'd do if my hot chocolate stopped being so magically delicious. luckily i never really liked the taste of the pudding. sorry it got all crappy, you guys :(

mkroyer 09-22-2009 10:02 AM

they added fiber to it...also to the vanilla..my personal favorite (or USED to be!!) i told them at the center they ruined EVERYTHING....

noahsmama 09-22-2009 10:27 AM

oh so that's the difference. Very interesting! I have a box of the hot cocoa that I bout way back when I first started and have yet to try it. I honestly forgot about it. Yeah I'm going to try that tomorrow! Maybe that'll be my new chocolate fix.

Lookinfine09, I go to the Lincoln center also and bought a box of the double chocolate pudding last week. It is gross! I had it twice, thinking the first time was caused by tap water. I usually use bottled. Anyway, it's nasty and I'm disappointed, I looked forward to that pudding after dinner each night.

For those of you that want to try something different, the hot chocolate mixed with a small amount of water and blended tastes like fudge brownie dough. I'm going to have that instead of pudding from now on.

I go to WI today, I'm going to complain about their ruined product!

great! Thank you for the suggestion. Exactly how do you prepare the hot chocolate? You say blended, just mix with a whisk in a bowl? I'll be anxious to try it tomorrow night. (I'm having a bar for lunch and therefore won't be able to try it tonight :()

I just blended it with a spoon. Like I said, don't add too much water, just a little at a time to get the right consistancy. It will be thick like dough. Not as good as the original chocolate pudding, but, way better than that stuff they sell now. Let me know what you think of it.

I'd be anxious to hear any other ideas to get my chocolate fix.

leahruthie 09-22-2009 02:48 PM

i just drink the hot cocoa like normal hot cocoa--dump the powder in a mug and add boiling water. it's really delicious; better than "diet" hot cocoa from the store, if you've ever had that.

lookinfine09 09-22-2009 03:09 PM

I called my center this morning to see if they've received similar complaints. I guess I'm not the first one to complain. Not sure it will do any good, but they can at least provide feedback to corporate.

RonnieAdl 09-22-2009 05:10 PM

Well if the pudding is bad enough they will see no one is buying it and maybe make some changes to it. I am not a fan of the pudding anyway so I can only imagine what they could have done to make it worse. The vanilla is not too bad though unless they are going to fool with it as well and make it nasty too!

How can you have your pudding if you don't eat your meat?

(Sorry...I just had to throw that in there!) Carry on!

Now that the weather is getting cooler, as I sit here with a blanket over me...just can't turn on the heat yet....I think I will have to get some of the hot chocolate you have been talking about. Does this replace the clear HNS's? Are you limited to how many you can have on plan?

I've only purhased clear HNS's and the chicken broth, creamy tomato and a box of bars. Haven't tried any of the jellos or the puddings. But if the puddings are not good, I will pass. Does DietDirect possibly have them? MRC will have many left if no one buys them, then they will hopefully go back to the original. I need to check out the creamies on plan and see what all I can do. I'm assuming it is on my menu???

The hot chocolate and puddings are all considered creamies. So, only one a day and not on days you have a bar. I hope they get the old puddings back, I heard today at my center it's all puddings. So, if you guys like the other flavors, I'm afraid they aren't good either. My consultant said they sent a message to corporate. Unfortunately, this doesn't always mean a change. So, time will tell.

Yes, FL, I think it is on the top of my menu if I remember right.

NePeanut...Thank you so much for the info. Also heads up on the pudding...I guess I will pass then and stick with what I know. Why ruin a good thing is my question? You have a good day now!

Interesting idea... I wonder what would happen if you then tried to bake the "fudge brownie mixture"... I see a recipe coming!

Karen1234 09-23-2009 08:16 PM

I had a choc. pudding tonight from a new box I just bought and I swear it hasn't changed a bit?? I wonder if my center is still getting the old kind/has stock leftover or something? I love my CP at night, I hope it doesn't change!

Karen, I too love the CP - now on the meta balance I mix it at night with my "milk" serving...chocolate soy milk - I buy the light 8th and it has the same cal/carbs etc as regular and my center said yes to it and the vanilla. so rich!

learning2Bhealthy 09-24-2009 07:16 PM

Just got back from MRC and got the cappuccino creamy drink and the packaging is different too, so is the calories, carbs, sugars, and protein. I hope that it taste the same. I got 2 boxes and that will suck if it's horrible. It was funny cause I had 2 boxes of DC ordered and it never came in and this thread got me scared that the DC was nasty now, so I asked if I could exchange them, got the cappuccino and now it's different. :?: I'll let you all know how it is.

UPDATE: The cappuccino does taste different, not as good but ok. It taste as though it has nutmeg/cinnamon or something in it. Not as sweet,a bit grainy, and rather bland..This stinks. Oh well, more money in my pocket.

leahruthie 09-24-2009 08:15 PM

maybe it's all part of a diabolical plan to get us to stop having creamies? :P

Life without creamies is just...well...bland!

Fifties Lady 09-25-2009 03:50 PM

So, has there been any up dates on the creamies....I am ready to purchase my first at next visit. Does this effect the hot chocolate or anything else but puddings?

I WI today and asked if anyone had been complaining about the DC pudding, and Nancy said no. I told her what the word on the street was, and we looked at the boxes we still have the old ones, but I did notice that the vanilla pudding was in a new box has this one changed as well? Dietdirect.com has the same pudding box design just their name on it, has one tried these yet?

I've tried the new vanilla. The jury is still out. On one hand, it seemed not as lumpy as the 'old' vanilla, but it was just a little bland. However, I'm the queen of embellishment, so I just added a drop of vanilla extract to it and it was fine. If I get real adventuresome, I might try adding some instant coffee granules to it. That's just how I roll! :::snort:::

missymo 09-26-2009 04:34 PM

I was really excited to try the creamies after my time on the yellow menu... I must say I was not impressed. Very strange after taste. Im not sure that I will be making this part of my normal plan. :dizzy:

Fifties Lady 09-26-2009 07:50 PM

Well, I guess I won't be buying the puddings. I thought since I hadn't tried them yet, that I wouldn't know they were bad or not....but sounds like this proves it. Shucks!!!!!

shopgirl 09-27-2009 12:55 AM

I asked at my WI today and the only thing I was told that the packaging was new....everything else is supposedly the same BUT they did take aspartame out of the vanilla pudding (which is actually a great thing). I've never tasted any of the puddings so I'm not sure but I thought I'd pass that on! :)

Dolly 09-27-2009 12:55 AM

I have a bunch of the old double chocolate and vanilla puddings that I never use.

I prefer to stick to the concentrates. If someone is interested in mine, PM me.

My computer is down though so I'll check my PMs at my sister's every couple of days or so.

. I told the director at our center that I heard the double chocolate pudding in the new packaging was horrible, so she made me some to taste. I thought the taste while eating it was okay (not great), but it does have a strong aftertaste that lasted a few hours. I won't be buying any more.

I had my first taste of the new boxed chocolate pudding last night. It was sweeter and it...was...green in places. Ew.

Fifties Lady 09-30-2009 10:01 PM

Good evening everyone,

I have to stock up on HNS's this week. I had never purchased any of the puddings, but now after reading all the posts here, I guess I will by pass them, which is sad, because everyone was making them sound so good on other threads.

So tell me, the hot chocolate and cappucchino are still good? And what about the Cream of Chicken, is that used in many of the recipes or is the Clear Chicken used more? Just want to stock up on the right things this time. How about the Strawberry jello, is that pretty good?

Thanks for anyone's help on this.

Fifties Lady - I still have a stock pile of the old vanilla and chocolate pudding and have liked them thus far...however I am nervous about the new "improvements" MRC has made, but I will purchase a box each to try because they do add the little treat daily if I need a sweet fix and I love to mix the vanilla with cottage cheese and fruit, splenda and water in a blender to make a shake for lunch. . I do not use both the chicken HNS - I just can't stand the clear chicken and the cream of chicken has SO MUCH sodium per serving something like 690 in it and any extra sodium makes me retain water and I never show a loss after eating/drinking it so I skip it but it is good...I do like the Strawberry jello both as a jello and as a hot drink...I add less water when making a jello to get a better "jello" texture. I love the hot cocoa - I add a tbsp of instant decafe coffee, dash of cinnamon, and a packet of splenda and drink...very good. Cappuccino is good too but I "doctor" it as well with extra decafe coffee and vanilla extract. I think everyone has different likes and dislikes with the HNS as I really like the carmel nut bar after a good run, others just hate it...I love the wildberry ice cold and drink this as my main HNS, I have probably 5 boxes of it...others hate it! If your center has a sample/trade basket this will give you an opportunity to try different HNS without having to purchase a box. I sometimes mix half a hot cocoa with half a cappuccino, good.

reuselady 10-01-2009 07:57 AM

Fifties Lady,
I like the Strawberry Jello - would make with just the recommended amount of water and eat half, save other half for treat next day - and that is how I used it - as a treat, an extra HNS when I needed something special. Same for the Vanilla Pudding, half one day often with fruit, other half next day.

I got and have used occasionally both chickens and tomato but have rarely used them and do not see a real reason to use them. Use your own spices, herbs, flavorings - I used fresh tomatoes to give things like chili a bit of the tomato sauce. I also purchased jars of spaghetti sauce that were made with just vegetables - no sugar, now sodium - used ground bison to make meat spaghetti sauce for family. I used a slotted spoon to get my meat out of the sauce to go on my spaghetti squash. A little of the tomato sauce stuck to the meat but not much.

We have always felt that it was not good to heat the protein powder we buy so (pre-MRC) I would not use it in my coffee but I would use powdered skim milk. I would use the protein powder and powdered milk in shakes. I am not in week three of Stabilization and can have the powdered milk again and I am so happy. Dollar for dollar it is the best buy to get protein ($1 gets you 58g protein along with calcium - problem is there are the milk sugars also, so you have to wait until you are almost finished with MRC to get it again) In contrast, the protein we are buying thru MRC or even dietdirect.com $1 gets you 10 - 15g protein - pretty expensive but it is nothing but protein so for the program, it is worth it - and is in enough different forms almost everyone can find something they like!

Sorry I ramble on so. FL did you check with Little Edie to see if she sold her puddings? THere was also another thread where a gal was trying to sell her products. Good luck - I love hearing from you - I have ever since you first started asking questions. Hang in there - you are doing great especially without their herbs etc. jeanette

Thank you so much for your input...you have really helped me make some decisions. I have made chicken/veggie soup with the Clear Chicken when I was sick with the flu, and it really was pretty good, but it did have an after taste. I found sodium free Chicken Broth and I think I am going to give that a shot...way so much cheaper. With the plateau I am in now for almost the whole month of September, I best stay away from the creamies for awhile. I plan to go in tomorrow for another disappointing WI since the scale has been up and down one pound each day. If October doesn't start with better results, then I am really going to wonder what the heck is going on. This is way to expensive to lose nothing for a month, let alone heartbreaking. I know many of you have gone through the plateau, and I really have to say you are troopers to not give up!!! If it wasn't for all the wonderful posters here, I probably would have mid-month!!! We shall see what happens tomorrow. :(

I feel you there FL and can relate first hand. August/September have been VERY hard months for me as I've lost less than 10 pounds total I believe. All I can say is just to hang in there and it will come off (at least I'm hoping it will).
